Watched it last night. Tis good, but disturbing. Gillian Anderson very good. Jamie Dornan scary. Anyone else see it?

OP posts:
BedHanger · 13/05/2013 22:47

That was great - love, love Gillian Anderson.

AnyFucker · 13/05/2013 22:49

have never watched HollyOaks

it's all new to me

very glad I stumbled over it

although I might get a bit annoyed if we keep getting "titillated" by slowmo shots of the sexual abuse of women

I prefer it left a little more to the imagination, and less like some pervy bloke's wet dream

we shall see

Darkesteyes · 13/05/2013 23:06

Loved it but there was a high number of shots of violence against women. Bit less of that and just rely on suspense.

BOF · 13/05/2013 23:10

Apparently, Archie Panjabi (Kalinda in The Good Wife ) will be in it as a pathologist, I think, and forms a bond with Anderson's character. I'm looking forward to this as a drama which will show some great female characters/acting, clichéd sexual murders of women notwithstanding.

AnyFucker · 13/05/2013 23:15

hopefully the cliched sexual murders angle was a bit overdone for the first episode and it will settle back into the classy psychological thriller it is clearly meant to be

waikikamookau · 13/05/2013 23:17

bit put off by the brother and sister from hollyoaks,

Gillian Anderson very good English accent.

Crikeyblimey · 13/05/2013 23:17

The writer was on R4 earlier and said that he didn't want to start the series with just a dead woman as he felt this dehumanised women as merely victims if violence. He wanted to portay the victims as people first. He also said that he deliberately chose to tell us who "done it" from the start to allow viewers to make an uncomfortable connection with him. There was loads of talk about how refreshing it was to see something set in Belfast that isn't about the troubles.

Loads of praise for Anderson's accent too.

I loved it :)

BOF · 13/05/2013 23:20

That's interesting, Crikey- do you remember which programme it was? I'll look it up on iplayer.

mrsdinklage · 13/05/2013 23:41

It was scary - but I loved it.

hattymattie · 14/05/2013 07:54

This was really creepy. I think what was most disturbing was the fact that the killer seems totally normal in every other respect. Meaning you cannot trust anybody! I asked DH if he was actually a psycho killer and he said "yes" and laughted evilly. Hmm

CalamityKate · 14/05/2013 08:37

I didn't even realise JD was the huntsman/sheriff in Once Upon A Time!

I'm irrationally angry at myself for not recognising him. I'm normally shit hot at recognising people on telly and I love OUAT!

Fiderer · 14/05/2013 09:00

I noticed GA's forehead too, maybe she's just blessed with good genes Wink She is gorgeous though, even more so than when she was in the X-Files, striking eyes. And she's great in this.

Really creepy where the killer was drawing the woman during counselling.

Did the boss (what's he been in?) not want the serial killer link because of the politics aspect he mentioned? That the whole thing would then escalate with the media and public and there would be even more pressure to find the killer.

TheChimpParadox · 14/05/2013 17:06

I really enjoyed this last night - although very disturbing - I felt the fear in the young woman at the end as when he revealed his face to her she knew it was going to be the end for her.

Love it when Gillian was up front about the room number at the hotel to that young Detective Sergeant !

I thought that the Irish senior detective who meet her at the airport and refused to 'strangle' her writs may have in the past had a fling with her and still felt something for her hence the refusal to hold her wrist and some awkwardness. Gillians character is not backward coming forward is she ?

BOF - it was last night's Front Row :)

BOF · 14/05/2013 18:28

Thanks- I looked it up and listened to it this morning.

wigglesrock · 14/05/2013 20:42

Oh I've just watched it on catch up. It was good, I love a bit of John Lynch (I too think him and Gillian Anderson had a bit of previous so to speak) Might have to start watching it on RTE on Sunday. Got a bit distracted by playing "oh look where it is" Smile

HeavenlyYoni · 14/05/2013 21:28

Brilliant. Creeped out by the social worker murderer drawing his client.

MyFunDay · 14/05/2013 21:59

It's a 5 part series I think.

Loved it. It was so tense, creepy and bleak. I really liked the fact that you saw the serial killer first as it was such a shock to see his son waiting up for him and then you realise he also has a daughter. And when he said that it would be intolerable to be able to read people's minds - thought that was spot on - on so many levels.

JD was perfect. GA was brilliant but I kept getting distracted by the top she wore on her first day, it was gorgeous. Gosh, she's a bit direct isn't she?

The only thing I didn't get was how he managed to get in without the police realising there was a break in. I know he was careful, but surely there would be telltale signs (footprints in the soil/ paint scrape)?

UseHerName · 14/05/2013 22:33

just put this on - will i be too scurrred to go to sleep after watching this? Shock

UseHerName · 14/05/2013 22:43

oh!usual psni ineptness i see Grin

very realistic Wink

UseHerName · 14/05/2013 22:44

thought for sure he was in her wardrobe there!

wannabedomesticgoddess · 14/05/2013 22:54

Loved this. Moved a little slow to start, but will be watching next week.

Atleast the accents arent cringeworthy and put on.

I really love Bronagh Waugh. Shes so different to her HO character. Some actors can be a bit samey.

Didnt much like the attitude of the response officers, yes she had wine but that does not mean she is incapable of remembering that her bed was empty when she went out. Hmm Obviously its part of a wider plot but victim blaming is getting irritating.

UseHerName · 14/05/2013 23:32

oh well that's given me the heebie geebies! ill never sleep now! Confused

joanofarchitrave · 15/05/2013 00:22

Great stuff - the parts of it I watched without my hand over the screen, anyway Blush

I actually think Botox is right for the character GA is playing, so perhaps her forehead is playing the forehead of a DI in the Met.

I wish, however, that these dramas would make it appear that it is actually possible to be a professional woman without drinking half a bottle a night. Especially as GA's character would have had her teeth whitened too, so what was she doing with an enormo glass of red never more than an inch from her mouth?
