Watched it last night. Tis good, but disturbing. Gillian Anderson very good. Jamie Dornan scary. Anyone else see it?

Yes, I thought that. Maybe he could see when he said he'd had an affair that she immediately thought of the babysitter, and it was easiest to let her think that. Or maybe he enjoyed her horror at the 'affair' with someone underage ? and quite possibly enjoyed spinning the fantasy of an underage affair as well. He clearly enjoyed the power he had over the babysitter.

But it didn't make any sense that he told his wife he was staying out overnight because of his affair with the babysitter. She was 15 and he wouldn't have been allowed to stay overnight at hers, particularly not night after night (he said he was working in a kind of Samaritans role.) Then someone said (in RL) that he'd said he'd taken the girl to a hotel - well, that's just ridiculous!

Why didn't he say that it was some random girl? He didn't realise his daughter had seen him on the floor with the babysitter, did he?

Also (I think I've said this above but it's still bugging me) - the one thing we knew about his wife was that she was dedicated to her job. So she packs everything up (indicating they were moving out) and leaves - no notice, no warning. Would she REALLY have done that? I got the impression they were leaving for good - can anyone remember what was said? Even if it was for a few weeks, though (and it would have to be for a period of time, given the boxes she was shoving things into) how would she explain that away at work? Surely the writers should make a token effort to make it realistic?

Glad to get that out of my system!

has it ended? I seem to have missed the last one, couldn't find it on catch up either grrr

Yes it ended some weeks back but there will be a Series 2 as there was no conclusion. I hate bloody cliffhangers where you have to wait months for the next show.

Maybe the wife did assume he'd been taking the babysitter to a hotel. And no, he didn't know his daughter had seen them. He didn't actually say the words 'It was [babysitter's name]; he let his wife 'realise' that. I think he wanted to watch her working it out, as a kind of sick power thing. Also, in a way it's more believable that he might have been carrying on with someone who was clearly infatuated with him than for him to make up some mystery woman.

As for the leaving town/job with no notice thing, I think we have to let that go, under telly rules Grin. I only remember seeing her packing boxes with things out of the fridge, which you'd do even for a shortish holiday, no?

oh I did see it! eh how can they leave us with THAT ending!! I honestly thought I'd missed the conclusion Shock

I'm sure she gets hers dry-cleaned and pressed, Osmiornica Envy Grin

I love her outfits. I want that coat. And I wish I could stride around in heels like she does.
