Watched it last night. Tis good, but disturbing. Gillian Anderson very good. Jamie Dornan scary. Anyone else see it?

'Can somebody explain the significance of the parallel between GA sex with and killer washing body'

I wasn't sure either, but the TV reviewer guy in the Metro (who I absolutely love) said it showed a parallel between two people getting exactly what they wanted, but still ultimately unfulfilled by the experience. That makes sense to me.

Possibly stupid question - why did Gillian give DS Hunky the brush off when he turned up at the crime scene? She said she thought she was a good judge of character but obviously hadn't been in his case. Was it because he sent her that photo on her phone?

gazzalw · 21/05/2013 12:41

Or maybe you've hit the nail on the head with your comment about "her getting exactly what she wanted but still ultimately unfulfilled..." - she used him and now doesn't want anything more to do with him...

wintera · 21/05/2013 12:44

I was also wondering about Why its called The Fall? Can't think of any reason so far.

The young copper that she slept with was very chummy with the reporter fella wasn't he? Giving him info etc. Am wondering if it was him who told the reporter where she was staying. Can't remember whether in last week's ep the reporter targeted her in the restaurant before or after she told the copper where she was staying.

I'm going to stick with this thread about it from now on. Just been on digital spy and people seem to type whilst watching so they end up missing plot points and getting mixed up with characters. Its driving me mad!

horseonabeach · 21/05/2013 12:51

GA told the cop where she was before the journo turned up.

bubbatime · 21/05/2013 12:52

Marking place. I agree very uncomfortable viewing with regard to what the children saw. The giving of the necklace also turned my stomach. I want to watch on but it's on the line of no longer being entertainment...

bubbatime · 21/05/2013 12:53

Oh, I missed the text the cop sent blondie. What was it of?

Lottapianos · 21/05/2013 12:53

Aaaaaaaah - got it now, thanks!

One thing I did like was in the scene with the hunky copper, GA was totally in control and kept almost all her clothes on. It's very unusual to see a woman portrayed that way in a sex scene on TV or in film.

Lottapianos · 21/05/2013 12:54

It was a photo of him with no top on bubbatime. Very nice Wink

PeppermintPasty · 21/05/2013 12:59

I gave this a go again last night, despite sighing at the end of the first episode about yet more women being subjected to sadism and torture (however much is unseen) in the name of entertainment.

I don't mean that to sound as pompous as it does, but although it's clearly meant to rattle and disturb us, it is doing so in a horribly gratuitous way IMO. Bit of a shame as GA was v good in this episode.

Not sure I'll watch it next week.

I'm missing my Scot and Bailey fix this week Sad

PeppermintPasty · 21/05/2013 12:59

Scott

wintera · 21/05/2013 13:02

Unfortunately for her, she will be linked to him now he has been shot by the fact he sent her that photo. Am guessing the police will go through his phone now and ask why he was sending her texts. Even if she says that it was just him trying it on with her, the wpc saw the two used condoms in the bin so she knows she's had sex with someone in her room.

wintera · 21/05/2013 13:06

I'm not finding this as gratuitous as a lot of you are. I think because its slower paced we are actually finding out more about the victims and the affect it has on their families more than we would in other tv shows. The women are being portrayed as proper women and not pieces of meat. I find shows like Criminal Minds much more gratuitous to be honest.

Did the necklace he gave his little girl belong to the lawyer he had killed?

iwantanafternoonnap · 21/05/2013 13:19

It is compelling viewing but turns my stomach. GA very good and the cop she used damn sexy and I loved her extremely direct way of telling him she wanted to hook up.

I nearly cried when the little boy saw his dad get shot though and when the killer gave his daughter that necklace......shivers down my spine.

iwantanafternoonnap · 21/05/2013 13:19

he took the necklace off the lawyers dressing table.

gazzalw · 21/05/2013 13:20

Well that's what I thought too, Hattymattie....

Maybe "the fall" refers to G.A.character? I am wondering whether her night of lust will have bad repercussions for her and possibly this murder investigation she's heading up?

lurcherlover · 21/05/2013 13:24

I thought it was odd that the wpc seemed shocked to see the condoms in the bin and immediately flushed them. Why would she do that?

Also think the daughter has seen her Dad's notebook. On that picture she'd drawn in school, she'd shaded heavily round the outside of the drawing, which is unusual for a young child to do. Her Dad's drawings were done in the same way though.

wintera · 21/05/2013 13:24

So who do we think is the father of the murdered woman's baby then? Her colleague? The other solicitor? She was having drinks with him last week.

gazzalw · 21/05/2013 13:35

it's already starting to look as if there's a lot of links twixt the two types of crime, don't you think? Do you think that's going to be significant?

Fiderer · 21/05/2013 13:55

I didn't click at once that the solicitor in the police station was the same one in the bar with Sally.

So, given my not clicking of faces, was I imagining that the man who took a call then had to work, i.e. introducing the Air Monroe girls, was a police man too? Or is it that he looked like the probation officer in the Ice Cream Girls?

hattymattie · 21/05/2013 14:02

The necklace will be his undoing then - somebody will recognise it.

lurkingfromhome · 21/05/2013 14:06

The man who took the call then had to work is the ex-husband of the first murdered woman (and the prime suspect), and the son of Big Police Chief, who is doing all he can to get the police to stop thinking it was his boy wot done it.

gazzalw · 21/05/2013 14:14

See what I mean though - the gun story is linked with the serial killer story if only thro' the solicitor..... I think there will be more 'links' that are revealed in weeks to come too.

Fiderer · 21/05/2013 14:44

Thanks lurking but I didn't mean the ex-h cokehead son of a politican. There was an older man who took a call and it was connected to the police or the case. He hung up and then cokehead and the sleazeballs arrived.
