Watched it last night. Tis good, but disturbing. Gillian Anderson very good. Jamie Dornan scary. Anyone else see it?

keeping her mouth shut is not judging. destroying the evidence of a grown woman's sex life and then telling her about that... god, i don't know, it's so weird. it can only really be blackmail or some misguided sense of protection, but from what? Stella is wholly unapologetic about her sex life later, so why let young cop act for her? why not tell her to keep her nose out?

and b. the production designer.

DelphiSwimsLate · 12/06/2013 22:42

I really didn't get the condom thing either tbh. Why did the cop even look in the bin? And why does GA even appreciate that she disposed of them? I don't understand it esp in light of her woman/fuck attitude to sex. Maybe she didn't care so much that the cop disposed of the conforms, but it was more that she saw the cop was trying to look after her interests.

About the house, I did happen to notice that their living room was large enough to put the sofa in the middle, and thought "ooh they've got a nice big living room". So I personally think it was a bit nicer than nice.

DelphiSwimsLate · 12/06/2013 22:43

condoms not conforms.

christinarossetti · 12/06/2013 22:52

Ohhh, I've just thought of another 'clue'.

'Peter' studied literature and there was a Nietzsche quote in the letter he wrote to Sarah Kay's father.

There may be a light bulb moment to come.

carbalanche · 13/06/2013 00:01

OK late to the party, but I thought it was most off when the wife did no more than jokingly chastise him for giving the 15 year old babysitter a beer! Sorry, but that jarred with me soooo much. Would this action mean that she was in some way more understanding of the idea that the babysitter was "adult" enough to instigate a sexual relationship with her husband - ie a knowing tease that her husband was misguided enough to be "manipulated" by?

This then makes her comment about "grooming" her on the internet out-of-character. I found the wife character very badly written AND she reminded me of a character in Home and Away from aeons ago which was slightly of-putting.

LizTerrine · 13/06/2013 06:26

I was so disappointed by the last episode. What a cop out.

And yes, there was some really unbelievable decision-making going on throughout. Dammit Aitch, you were right!

The kitchen tiles were hideous.

hollyisalovelyname · 13/06/2013 09:07

Yes so was I Liz- if a second series was not going to be commissioned that would have been the ending. I hate hate hate up in the air endings. I feel i've wasted my time watching something. I like closure, me Smile

There were too many annoying things for me. The PC picking the condoms out of the bathroom bin has been mentioned several times - still makes no sense.
The CCTV and the Botanical Gardens. We didn't see any one else being interviewed/at the station. I was surprised at the DNA testing, calling the wife right away and checking his alibi. Sarah Kay must have been all over Belfast, why pick on the Gardens and then interview him so intensively about his movements?

Also the car. And the wife. The let's go on holiday at a minute's notice without any "I've spoken to the hospital/my boss/the school"

GA seemed to go into slow motion mode. Also why was she waiting at the hospital? Surely she'd be back co-ordinating the investigation?

After all the DNA checking alibi stuff, wouldn't it also occur to someone that he looks like the photo fit man?

Moln · 13/06/2013 23:07

the 15 year old babysitter's house had a GINORMOUS front door didn't it!?

rubybricks · 14/06/2013 09:33

carbalanche you're so right! carly with the dodgy perm!!

agree with most of the sentiments here - only started watching in the third week (much of the time through my fingers - it's not really my kind of 'entertainment') but wanted to play spot the location and see what all the fuss was about.

if i ever saw JD in real life i would run a mile, screaming. enjoyed GA's wardrobe, though i did find her reminiscent of jennifer saunders in ab fab which was a bit distracting Smile

JD was on talkback the other day and filming of series 2 doesn't start for a while apparently - i hope we'll all remember what loose ends need tying up by the time it hits our screens!

AitchTwoOhOneTwo · 14/06/2013 09:50

omg you are a genius on two counts.

one. YES. Carly! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carly_Morris i've been wracking my about that ever since it was mentioned.

two. YES. Jennifer Saunders! F&S christmas special, guaranteed Fall sketch.

AitchTwoOhOneTwo · 14/06/2013 09:53

ooooh. something veh funny happening with links. that should have been fine.

lydiajones · 14/06/2013 11:37

I am enjoying this though the ending was a bit up in the air but I suppose that leaves the way for a new series.

There were some annoying things in the series like:

The CCTV, why would you bring in someone for interview just because they happened to be walking in the same park as the victim? Then once they were interviewed why did they not connect him with the murder?

The wife's forgiveness!!

The quick pack up of life to move to Scotland.

The car - why did the wife not ask where his car was?

Him supposedly working for the Samaritans all night when he had a full time day job. Does he ever sleep?

Question: when he had sex with his wife at the end it looked to me like he was strangling her but stopped once she said she was pregnant. However, I was half doing something else at the time so maybe didn't see this right.

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 14/06/2013 13:01

'The CCTV, why would you bring in someone for interview just because they happened to be walking in the same park as the victim? Then once they were interviewed why did they not connect him with the murder?'

They didn't bring him in; he went in voluntarily. Well, sort of voluntarily ? his daughter saw them on the footage on TV and told him and his wife, and his wife insisted he go in to eliminate himself from enquiries. She was worried about friends/colleagues etc seeing the footage and being suspicious.

I don't know why they didn't join a few dots and connect him with the murder though. There didn't exactly seem to be a stream of people off the CCTV going to the station.

Also, the officer who interviewed him later took his call when he identified himself as the killer. I would have thought he might recognise his voice.

On Scotland, I think they were just going on holiday (maybe an extended one) rather than moving for ever.

Can't answer anything else, sorry!

Albertinaschnauzer · 14/06/2013 22:42

I am sure it's already been said but can't plough through all the posts but Jamie Dornan is married to Amelia Warner who also used to be married to Colin Farrell. Surely this woman must be a contender for luckiest woman alive?

vintagecakeisstillnice · 15/06/2013 03:27

Re:the condom disposal, I haven't re watched but weren't the media already looking at GA, the whole bringing over a UK whatever her rank is to review the Monroe case. So I took it as a protection of the police, both GA and the male cop rather than anything else.

I think GA liked junior cop 'cause she was so quick to come forward with the fact that they'd been to the house, but really didn't want to dob her partner in.

The wife's reactions I think a bit of hysterical bonding a bit of frog in the warm water, I think it could/would come out that he's very emotional abusive so she's been conditioned to accept whatever he says as right even if it seems outlandish to an outsider.

About the timelines and the daughters birth he seems to have an issue about pregnancy. I wonder if the pregnancy was what stopped him in the past?? He did apologise to the father of the 2nd victim once he found out shed been pregnant.

Boxes in thekitchen per holiday, I assumed wherever they were going was self catering so the boxes were what had been in the fridge/ essentials/ some kitchen equipment, rather than a full clearance. (Speaking from bitter experience of renting 'fully equipped' 3 bedded cottage, 1 small saucepan, no frying/ grill pan, 3 dinner plates/cups 2 bowls. . No takeaways/ resturant in 8 miles.)

WipsGlitter · 15/06/2013 08:06

lydia Samaritan volunteers do have to do all night shifts and many have full time jobs! It's only once a month though.

notnowImreading · 15/06/2013 08:14

I thought that the condom thing was built in to show that the prurient attitude to sex shown by the men wasn't only confined to the men - I was under the impression that the message was that Belfast is a bit different, a bit puritanical. I thought GA thanked the young police officer because it was easier to do that than to get into a discussion with her - it was a way of closing the conversation down and giving herself time to think about it. It wasn't clear whether she thought the young officer was trying to get some leverage but it must have gone through her mind. The way she handled it allowed her not to jump to conclusions or to get distracted from the main issue.

hollyisalovelyname · 15/06/2013 12:25

Spot on Fiderer. Loads of holes in the plot/ script/ story. I hope Alan Cubitt is reading this Grin

I find the wife very unbelievable as a character. She's so wet and soppy.
A serial killer is around, your husband was in the same area as one of the victims, you have to give him an alibi for another killing and just believe he is having an affair with the underage babysitter without asking the babysitter and then forgive him?
I'd have been round to the babysitter's house at the least, and kicking him out. You'd think the daughters comments about a naked woman in the loft would have come back to her when she had to lie to the police.

chickieno1 · 21/06/2013 16:49

I didn't think he s tally had sex with the babysitter though? He was trying to get the lock of hair out of her pocket?

chickieno1 · 21/06/2013 16:49

Actually

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 21/06/2013 17:24

No, he didn't have sex with her; it was just a struggle for the lock of hair ? but he told his wife they were having an affair.

chickieno1 · 21/06/2013 21:03

I don't know why he told his wife was having affair with babysitter? Surely he could've picked someone random or made someone up??
