Have started a new thread as the old one won't accept my message. So I'll repost it here:

Fuzz has form for being beyond thick. Remember the whole stape thing? Her character is just incredibly stupid. You'd think she would learn her lesson. Running away 'on a fishing boat' with £200 is like a story from a 16th century novel.

Re the abduction I think they were wrong. Lots of mums keeps kids from fathers for all manner of selfish reasons and abduction is not the answer. However I do think ty was desperate. But why won't he just let the court decide ffs. He's got loads of evidence. I'm getting to the point in this story where I'm actually ready to punch him myself! In fact have felt a tiny bit sorry for k when they stole ruby. Surely the writers can't have intended for this to happen? God knows. Im away next week so hopefully I'll miss the stupid court stuff and be back for some proper corrie storylines.

My brother drools every time she has a scene.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 24/02/2013 14:49

The house Mandy was living in was Jenna's wasn't it?

Bakingnovice · 24/02/2013 15:22

Mandy is wrong on soooo many levels. Terrible acting, terrible clothes, terrible storylines, and terrible casting.

OP posts:
WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 24/02/2013 15:28

I don't mind Mandy, about time Lloyd had a decent girlfriend rather than someone who is just using him but the mere existence of Jenna annoys me, as well as her actual character just rolling over and giving up her career for Sophie.

SoleSource · 24/02/2013 15:43

Terrible clothes Grin

Bakingnovice · 24/02/2013 18:02

And she's so bloody narky. She was annoyed when he found her, pissed off when he pursued her, moody when he found out about Jenna, sullen when he told her she could move in and downright gloomy when Jenna announced her lesbianism. All she does is moan and grimace. And ll

Bakingnovice · 24/02/2013 18:02

Lloyd is the opposite. Really funny and young looking- ish.

SoleSource · 24/02/2013 18:04

Totally agree Baking. I loathe.her.

Lighthousekeeping · 24/02/2013 18:12

I hate Jenna with Sophie. So wrong on many levels.

Bakingnovice · 24/02/2013 18:23

Oh yes Jenna and Sophie. Never was such a mismatched couple created in soap land. Ok, well not since Lloyd and Mandy. Jenna is too old for Sophie.

OP posts:
SoleSource · 24/02/2013 18:25

Jenna looks about 30. Sophie looks about 16.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 24/02/2013 18:28

Lloyd certainly does not look old enough to be Jenna's father. I do think the entire Lloyd/Mandy/Jenna storyline contrived in the extreme, they could have done it a lot better, made Jenna younger, not involved Sophie, made Mandy have a home of her own and just develop a relationship with Lloyd gradually over time. But no, nothing ever gets left to develop gradually any more, that is half the problem with Corrie now, everything has to be dramatic from the start, all the storylines go to extremes quickly and only then are they allowed to stretch out for ages, getting more and more far fetched.

Foe example the surrogacy story, the Nick/Leanne/Kylie/David saga, Lewis and Gail. Although sometimes they improve in the much longer term - the Sunita/Karl/Stella storyline all developed far too fast but is interesting now simmering along in the background especially as Dev seems to have vanished

MortifiedAdams · 24/02/2013 19:18

I hate the speed of some storylines. Things can start and be over within the week. For example, Eva moans about being alone and by the end of the episode its apparent she will become Erics companion. A few days later and its all over.

Ryan and Katy - never even had a scene together and all of a sudden he is like flies around shite with her..

SoleSource · 24/02/2013 19:31

Is Coronation Street going to last another 50 years?

Bakingnovice · 24/02/2013 21:30

I doubt is sole. The plots are ridiculous and seem mostly centred on affairs and nasty characters. Like someone above said, either the stories start and end in a week or they drag on for months. I grew up
On corrie and it was feel good tv with characters you could identify with. About human relationships, famines, community. Now it's lost all that. It's about being dramatic, extreme, keeping up with the audiences perceived need for shocks. My kids arent interested in it even though I loved it at their age.

As a lifelong watcher I struggle to stay watching it. I know less and less people in RL who watch it. It's too far fetched and I personally think it tends to push trendy agendas these days ( like homosexuality, surrogacy, affairs, adultery) rather than basic family ties.

Bakingnovice · 24/02/2013 21:31

Families not famines!

There possibly were food shortages in those back kitchens Baking :)

I agree with all you have writtenBaking.

Bravo! :)

Bakingnovice · 24/02/2013 21:45

I really miss the big characters like bet, Alec, reg holdsworth, alf, Fred. And my all time favourite soap person ever ever: Blanche.

OP posts:
WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 24/02/2013 21:49

I miss Alec and Blanche. Couldn't stand Reg, but he was memorable.

There are too many characters now and they disappear for months on end without explanation, places come and go as part of the story (Kebab shop, surgery), it just doesn't have the continuity.

Bakingnovice · 24/02/2013 21:56

Now we have characters like Eva, fuzz, Owen, izzy, Gary, cindy Beale, Tyrone, kylie, Leanne, Mandy Jenna Ryan....... And they wonder why we can't warm to them.

The dr hasn't been around much either. In the past the barmaids were big characters. Now we have Tina, cindy and Mandy. And the rovers is no longer the hub. It's split between the bistro, pub and kebab shop.

OP posts:
KenDoddsDadsDog · 24/02/2013 22:12

The kebab shop hasn't been on for ages , nor the shop really which also used to be a hub. Now it's the beeeeeestro.

Chippychop · 25/02/2013 13:03

There was me thinking it was just my middle aged post baby brain not keeping up and remembering who was who but its the writers who are pickin up and dropping charecters and story lines!

LeeCoakley · 25/02/2013 20:21

What a cliffhanger! I bloody hate Caroline Quentin but I can't turn over incase I miss the second episode of Corrie. Will Kylie own up or will Gail spill the beans???? I hate the fact that it's all Kylie's fault and not Nick's. Will no one think of Leanne?

SoleSource · 25/02/2013 20:33

Mum!

Whst do you know that I don't?

it is as simple as that David

SoleSource · 25/02/2013 20:35
