Sports Personality of the Year, will you be voting?

Should be interesting. I will be voting for Wiggo because I like his dry sense of humour, he won the Tour de France, which is a major, huge feat (especially for a Brit) and his gentlemanly conduct on the 'Tack-gate' stage, the French love him, then he goes and takes gold at the olympics and he has encouraged many youngsters to get on their bikes. DH and I think there should be a male and female category though.

This is awful! Everyone who comes on, I immediately think "oh but they deserve to win too."

DP is adamant it should be Wiggins on the basis that he did something that no Brit has done in a century, and then won an Olympic gold almost as an afterthought.

I think that in the year of the GB Olympics, it should be someone who can be called a really great Olympian and, for me, that means a substantial Olympic pedigree - either a lot of medals over several games (like Ainslie), or a long, hard climb up the ranks to get there (like Katherine)

difficultpickle · 16/12/2012 21:31

I'm watching Homeland. Didn't Mo mention his stepdaughter? Sad

TandB · 16/12/2012 21:32

I can't get through to vote. Aaargh!

Messing · 16/12/2012 21:32

Lottie - Mo Farah said something about having '2 beautiful girls' and I think his dsd said 'three!' to her mum.

TandB · 16/12/2012 21:33

I don't think Mo can be criticised for not mentioning his step-daughter - he was talking about the twins in response to a direct question about them.

KungFu I agree with your DP re Wiggo, it is such a colossal achievement and he has a personality to boot. Just a shame that there are other fab people too, but it has to be one person and Bradley won the Tour and took gold at the olympics shortly after. If there was a separate female award I would vote Jess or Katherine.

Why do they squash the voting into only 1/2 an hour?

Keep getting "call failed" when I try to vote.

GreenyEyes · 16/12/2012 21:35

I just voted and got through straightaway- perhaps some contestants lines are busier than others!

Cozy9 · 16/12/2012 21:36

A seperate female award would be stupid, as it would just seem second rate. It means more when a woman wins the main award this way.

I got through straightaway for Bradley, which makes me think there are a lot of middle-aged golfers calling Rory's number in a panic, or maybe Jess has it in the bag rather than Wiggo.

Ok re Mo!!! I was ecstatic to see Drogba!!! He is my Wilf's absolute idol!!

BetsyBoop · 16/12/2012 21:39

"I think that in the year of the GB Olympics, it should be someone who can be called a really great Olympian"

that would also apply to Wiggo - joint highest tally (7) of olympic medals ever by a Brit (with Hoy) and four gold medals - only Hoy and Redgrave have more golds

LottieJenkins · 16/12/2012 21:40

Muamba!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I saw a programme on him the other day! He seems a really lovely guy!!

LauriesFairyonthetreeeatsCake · 16/12/2012 21:40

I've voted for Ennis and Murray. Best female athlete in the world and Murrays amazing - won his first grand slam, best British tennis player for 76 years.

There are too many amazing people this year - dh and I have actually cried at the stuff people have said.

SledYuleCated · 16/12/2012 21:41

Argh, does anyone have the numbers for Ellie and Jess?

Cozy9 · 16/12/2012 21:41

What has Muamba won an award for?

TandB · 16/12/2012 21:42

"that would also apply to Wiggo - joint highest tally (7) of olympic medals ever by a Brit (with Hoy) and four gold medals - only Hoy and Redgrave have more golds "

Absolutely. But I want a different great Olympian to win!

DoesntTurkeyNSproutSoupDragOn · 16/12/2012 21:42
