Should be interesting. I will be voting for Wiggo because I like his dry sense of humour, he won the Tour de France, which is a major, huge feat (especially for a Brit) and his gentlemanly conduct on the 'Tack-gate' stage, the French love him, then he goes and takes gold at the olympics and he has encouraged many youngsters to get on their bikes. DH and I think there should be a male and female category though.

That's exactly what I thought. Fairly inexcusable.

GothAnneGeddes · 17/12/2012 20:04

"brat child", really? Really?

Also agreeing that the nasty comments about the wives are completely uncalled for.

MordionAgenos · 17/12/2012 20:08

Sadly I don't think Mo's comment was as a result of Lineker's question at all. All the way through the Olympics he was talking about dedicating his two gold medals to his two babies. I think it's desperately sad. However, I think his daughter looks like a lovely lively little girl and the many interviews I have read with his wife over the years make me think she's lovely too.

ArielTheBahHumbugMermaid · 17/12/2012 20:33

I'm sorry, but you're mistaken. In every interview he was calling Rihanna his daughter (i.e. not his step daughter), and after his 10,000m win, she was the first person he embraced. She was there on the track after his 5,000m win as well. Clearly expecting his own twins was something a little bit special, which made it understandable that he dedicate the medals to them.

Anyway, the top 50 Olympic moments are on Grin

FromEsme · 17/12/2012 20:35

I really wish people would stop and think before they post. Imagine if you read on here that your child was a "brat child" because of a few minutes of footage. Horrible, really. She didn't ask to be in the limelight.

Hulababy · 17/12/2012 20:43

Really unpleasant to see people calling a little girl a "brat" - no one here even knows the little girl do they? Hate to see children called "brats" anyway, but this little girl is getting it from strangers who don't even know what she is like!

And yes, his twin daughters received his Olympic medals. His older girl has already received other medals he had won.

ArielTheBahHumbugMermaid · 17/12/2012 20:48

Back to the Olympics. I can't believe that Beth Tweddle wasn't acknowledged in the ceremony. She has been the shining light in British gymnastics for so many years and finally got the medal she craved. It's almost like she ignited the British gymnasts years ago and the light has shone steadily brighter ever since.

Beth, you are a marvel, if you're reading this. Which you're not.

FromEsme · 17/12/2012 21:40

Oh yeah, Beth Tweddle is cool, I like her. She seems really dedicated.

ArielTheBahHumbugMermaid · 17/12/2012 22:25

Anyone who thinks anything mean about Mo's family should watch their celebration on his winning the 5000m. It's utterly moving.

LostInWales · 17/12/2012 22:37

Quick moment fact fans just to bolster Wiggos 'legend' status, he won his first Olympic medal in 2000 and is equal top (with Chis Hoy) in the most Olympic medals ever table. Four of those medals being gold, he's certainly consistent.

I'm also a little Shock with some of the attitudes to women on this thread be they athlete, wife, child or princess, come on you lot, if there's going to be support/equality it's got to start here at least?

BikeRunSki · 18/12/2012 07:19

The same could be said about Chris Hoy and Bradley Wiggins and cycling Ariel.

So pleased that Dave Braisford was recognised too for work he's done as British Cycling coach.

BikeRunSki · 18/12/2012 07:20

*Brailsford

LostInWales · 18/12/2012 07:48

Very pleased for Brailsford, he can't have had any sleep in July/August flying between the tour and the training camp in Newport.

I think I cried about 5 times in the top 50 Olympic moments Blush.

ArielTheBahHumbugMermaid · 18/12/2012 09:02

Confused I haven't said anything about cycling! Are you talking about my comment about Beth? I don't think Brad and Chris lacked any plaudits though, and Beth and the gymnastics team most certainly did. I may have been having a wee break, but I don't remember seeing anything abut the gym at all. Think of British gymnastics 20 years ago compared to today - if you had foretold where it would be today, you would have been laughed at!

I think I did too, Lost. Every time I see Jess's tired little emotional face on the podium, I well up.

MordionAgenos · 18/12/2012 09:54

Laura Trott lacked plaudits. It was a shocking omission.

ArielTheBahHumbugMermaid · 18/12/2012 10:45

Her too. A double gold medallist!

TessOfTheBaublevilles · 18/12/2012 15:14

I cannot believe that Sarah Storey came last out of those.

Her achievements were incredible, not just in 2012, but since the start of her Paralympic career.
