OMG the Reynes of Castamere!

A point from last week - Joffrey 17? Really? From the look of the actor I had him down as being 13/14 like in the books. In a way it's better that he's 17, it means we can take the piss better for him being such a wimp.

Trills · 28/05/2012 22:16

Love drunk Cersei too.

Trills · 28/05/2012 22:17

Daddy Lannister only rode off from Harrenhal last week - how did he have time to go see pretty boy and the flower gang, negotiate with them, and get back to King's Landing, all while Sansa still has her period?

ILovePonyo · 28/05/2012 22:26

Sansa doesn't have her period, she's lying!

I loved drunk cersai too. She's a bitch but I feel for her too.

I liked this episode but need to know what's happening elsewhere too

ILovePonyo · 28/05/2012 22:26

*cersei

OracleInACoracleocus · 28/05/2012 22:27

That.
Was.
Awesome.

I kept gasping, and Tyrions injury, I knew it was coming (in fact, I was expecting it to be more brutal) but it still made me jump. and the wildfire was exactly as I saw it in my head. I loved the Hound, I wish we'd been allowed to see more of him and Sansa (and where was the kiss?)

Loras would have been fairly easy to persuade, he hates Stannis for killing Renly.

bloody talking over The Reynes of Castamere!

OracleInACoracleocus · 28/05/2012 22:27

only one more episode, how do we think they will do the House of The Undying?

Trills · 28/05/2012 22:28

Sansa got bitchy, too. In a passive-aggressive sort of way.

I'l pray for your safe return.
Will you?
As I pray for the King.

Take that as a "no, I'd like you to get your face chopped off" then, even thought Tyrion has been pretty reasonable to her.

OracleInACoracleocus · 28/05/2012 22:32

I loved Sansa's scene with Joffrey, "they say that Robb fights where it is thickest, and he is only a pretender" the little bird's still got some wolf claws!

Trills · 28/05/2012 22:32

Sansa was great trying to egg him on to go and get himself killed.

OracleInACoracleocus · 28/05/2012 22:36

hahahahaha, thats ace

Martin wrote this episode, didnt he? I really thought it showed, I'm so glad they didn't skip over it, like they did previous battles. missed the chain though

Trills · 29/05/2012 08:29

The chain and teaching the people with catapults to aim by using pots full of paint was much more clever.

This was more spectacular, but I think they downplayed Tyrion's cleverness.

Davos's son was irritating, wasn't he?

OracleInACoracleocus · 29/05/2012 09:18

yep, this was Tyrion's episode. this is where you think "if only HE were king" I understand, they had budget constraints (at one point it was to be a Cersei/Sansa-centric episode with the women in the keep getting updates, so glad they shelved that idea) and if its between the trojan ship/wildfire explosion and the chain/tutoring then the explosion is clearly the way to go. and it was awesome I held my breath as that arrow flew through the air.

Davos's son was a plonker, I loved Davos though. and even Stannis. the difference between him and Joffrey was huge. although I still think he would be a dreadful king.

House of The Undying next week, do you think they will do the visions? it sets up the Red Wedding

Ephiny · 29/05/2012 11:25

That was amazing, quite possible the best episode yet. I loved Cersei/Sansa's scenes, obviously I'm glad we saw the battle but it's good that they kept the women's perspective as well - I remember how tense and sinister that atmosphere was in the books and that came across perfectly in the show.

Yes there were some changes from the books, I would have liked to see more of a battle at sea, the struggle to escape the wildfire and the horror of realising they were trapped by the chain, and the Lannister ships destroyed along with their enemies. Of course with time/budget constraints they can't do everything, and this is a TV episode not a big-budget epic movie! I thought they did a pretty incredible job.

Rains of Castermere over the closing credits was absolute genius, that gave me chills! Especially thinking about the next occasion we're likely to hear that song... :(

OracleInACoracleocus · 29/05/2012 11:55

I'm trying to pretend that it won't happen, esp since I love robb so much in the tv series. I'm going to watch it again in a bit.

whathaveiforgottentoday · 29/05/2012 13:53

Loved this episode and thought they did a great job with the battle scene.
I do think the actor playing Joffrey is great, he makes an unpleasant character even worse than the book. He adds that weasily touch to his character which makes him even more unpleasant. I'm looking forward to his future being played out! Also impressed with Sansa, quite a subtle change in personality but definitely there.
I'm going to be disappointed when this series finishes.

Trills · 30/05/2012 09:39

I think we next hear the Rains of Castamere at Joffrey's wedding. Not at the event I think you were hinting at.

Trills · 30/05/2012 09:43

Ok, just checked and actually I had the weddings in the wrong order.

ErikNorseman · 30/05/2012 09:52

Take care on the spoilers!

Trills · 30/05/2012 10:29

I thought we had agreed that this was the thread for people who had read the books? Anyway, that wasn't spoilery. I didn't say who was getting married or why or what happens at the wedding (either of them!)

Ephiny · 30/05/2012 10:47

Actually there are several weddings coming up, now I think of it. None of them particularly cheery occasions!

(I thought this was the 'read the books' thread too. Though I guess we might all be up to different points in the books, of course.)

ErikNorseman · 30/05/2012 11:06

Fair enough!

OracleInACoracleocus · 30/05/2012 11:46

So, house of the undying, dany's visions, do we think they will include it? Esp the foreshadowing of the red wedding and the blue rose?

teaaddict2012 · 30/05/2012 13:06

Yeah I agree jack Gleeson (Joffrey) is excellent if he doesn't win an award I will loose all faith in humanity.
