I've decided to watch West Wing again from the beginning. Anyone care to join me?

I watched a random episode at the weekend and gosh darn it I had forgotten just how much I love this show!

Starting tonight I'm going to start rewatching the whole thing from the very beginning. Anyone want to join me, or just generally share the West Wing love?

does he have falsies? DP and I discussed this at length one night

beachholiday · 18/05/2011 21:01

"I also love how useless Josh is at asserting his authority"

And when Leo asks him if he can control his staff (when Donna is organising all the assistants to type slowly), he just looks rather surprised and resigned and says there's been absolutely no evidence of it so far. Really earns that Deputy COS title at times, doesnt he? Wink

I love how CJ scares him though.

LRDTheFeministDragon · 18/05/2011 21:01

Grin Me too NT - erm, I think I've got a whole 20 words written this evening!

I do find WW quite good for essay-writing though - my supervisor does pick me up for writing threes when I've been watching it though (I forget the technical name, but you know that thing Toby and Sam do when they have to find three words to describe something - it's a speechwritery trick).

beachholiday · 18/05/2011 21:04

And I love the episode where CJ and Charlie engage in a war and it emerges that despite his huge respect for her, Charlie is just willing to go beyond any lenghts when she riles him.

beachholiday · 18/05/2011 21:07

"can I just say that i am supposed to be writing an essay I'm so glad that there are other like-minded people on mumsnet Bartletnet"

I would not contradict you, nor would I disagree with you Wink

notyummy · 18/05/2011 21:08

God I LOVE the WW.

That, Battlestar Galactica and The Wire are officially TV Heaven. I almost feel like pulling a sicky to do some serious watching! Am also watching the old reruns of ER on Sky Atlantic at the moment and they are pretty great too.

NormanTebbit · 18/05/2011 21:15

I also love the way they are all terrified of The First Lady. Including the president.

Another actor spotted - Principal Figgins from Glee playing the Indian Ambassador Grin

I do love Charlie. One of my (many) favourite characters. He does that dead-pan long-suffering expression so well.

beachholiday · 18/05/2011 21:58

Charlie's relationship with Bartlett is great. My favorite scene with the two of them is the one where the president is saying that if Charlie hears shots were fired in the building, nothing will stop him...cue scuffle outside the door. I would love to have seen Charlie get past the bodyguards!

tribpot · 18/05/2011 22:00

beach - another quality scene from the fabulous Evidence of Things Not Seen I do believe!

I like the one when the Pres gives Charlie his carving knife. That was a-may-zing. In fact, I might have to go and see if I can find it in the box set RIGHT NOW.

You tube is great for a quick fix of scenes you need to urgently rewatch. You can get happily trapped in there for hours...

salander · 18/05/2011 23:39

Oh this thread is heaven- I just love the west wing. Spent first few weeks of ds's life marooned feeding on sofa watching reruns. I can't even pick a fave scene as there are just too many. I also cry at the war vets funeral, love mrs landingham and her refusal to give the pres a banana. Also howl buckets at the one where there's the sharif thing and cj and Simon......don't want to give away spoilers but so so love it. The root canal and secret plan to fight inflation crack me up.

EustaciaVye · 19/05/2011 07:56

Have just skipped big section of thread as I think there might be spoilers. I'm halfway through series 3 and havent seen any further. We're averaging 2-3 episodes a night at the moment, although the Apprentice distracted us last night.

thekidsmom · 19/05/2011 08:47

salander the final epi with cj and simon reminds me of how good the music can be in WW - as she's crying on the bench in NY and the wars of the roses is on stage is one of the best bits....

My favourte scence ever, tho, if we're going there (lets, why don't we?) is when Leo and the President go to Babbish's office and the President says "I'm going to tell you a story and then ask you if I consipired to defraud the American people" and Oliver takes his gavel and smashes his dictaphone to piesces and says "I'm ready now"....

Bumperlicioso · 19/05/2011 08:56

Oh yes, the music is fab. Try and find Desire by Ryan Adams, it's gorgeous.

ChablisLover · 19/05/2011 09:38

love ww

even got DH addicted.

Don;t have the full box set but am watching one on ebay.

Love the episode where Bartlett walks to the hill after the government shutdown. Love it

Started watching season 5 again yesterday (that's where our DVD's start) love the episode where Zoe gets kidnapped and John Goodman is acting president.

Thekidsmom - love that episode too

why did Josh and donna never get it together though?

bigkidsmademe · 19/05/2011 10:01

I'm watching Big Block of Cheese Day now. Love Leo - "even as I speak I am preparing appropriate retribution"!

Toby pops up in ER too, sympathising with Mark about being bald

AbsDuCroissant · 19/05/2011 10:09

LOVE it. Pretty much all my knowledge of American politics is from WW and when they had the presidential candidate whatsit, and it was between Hillary (old, experienced politician) and Obama (new, exciting, ethnic minority) I kept on saying to DP "This is exactly the plot of the later seasons of WW" and then, when it was Obama vs. McCain I nearly died, as it was totally like the WW when they had their candidate up against Alan Alda's character (Republican, but not too republican, more of a uniting candidate. Experienced, older, calm).

Man I need to start rewatching it.

CJCregg · 19/05/2011 10:44

OhmeoOhmyo Grin

This thread is reminding me of so many favourite moments.

CJCregg · 19/05/2011 10:46

Still laughing ... 'Is this a hazing?'

On a more serious note, I love the scene between Amy and Donna when Donna explains about Josh's little sister dying and basically shows how much better she knows him than anyone else. And makes it completely obvious she's in love with him ...

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 19/05/2011 11:30

Oh, I like Toby's exit storyline. I think he is the most conflicted and dark character throughout, so it didn't seem so unlikely to me.

Pinkjenny · 19/05/2011 11:34

I hated Toby's exit storyline. My favourite line is one from the episodes with Sam and the call girl, and Jed says something like, 'Good that we can do something nice for prostitutes.'

Imagine my level of guttedness, when I found out that I missed Rob Lowe by literally ten minutes. We were in NYC, in Times Square, just before they announced that Osama had been killed, and Rob Lowe went to Times Square after the announcement. Damn you sleepiness, DAMN YOU
