I've decided to watch West Wing again from the beginning. Anyone care to join me?

I watched a random episode at the weekend and gosh darn it I had forgotten just how much I love this show!

Starting tonight I'm going to start rewatching the whole thing from the very beginning. Anyone want to join me, or just generally share the West Wing love?

I'm willing to be convinced, so buoyed by the enthusiasm of you good people and the knowledge that I have £100 worth of dvds gathering dust I'm going to give it another go.

And at least we already agree on Mandy Grin

NormanTebbit · 16/05/2011 21:00

Oh

Josh and Donna

"I would run red lights for you..."

CaptainBarnacles · 16/05/2011 21:06

Nesta - the first series is a bit cheesy imo, esp. the awful music. Hang on in there and you will love 2, 3, 4 and the rest...

CaveMum · 16/05/2011 21:49

Agreed the first season is a tad cheesy, but the end of series 1 is worth it Wink

I'm not sure which is my favourite season, I have lots of individual favourite episodes - The Supremes is my current favourite. And I can't hear "Brothers in Arms" without thinking of Jed Bartlett putting his hands in his pockets! An iconic tv moment.

Nesta - get those DVDs out!

"we changed timezones?"

Dp has now informed me I am sad.

CaveMum · 16/05/2011 22:10

"Bring me the finest muffins and bagels in the land!"

I can't remember exactly how the quote goes (I'm sure NormanTebbit can correct me Wink):

Helen Santos: "Got time for a little incursion?"
Matt Santos: "I've got a meeting"
Helen: "I had in mind Shock and Awe!"
Matt: "After 15 years of marriage I'd be shocked if you were awed!"

I'm with you. I can't go more than a few months without having to put a WW on. At the moment going through Season 6 - the New Hampshire Primaries. Political education, snappy dialogue, some of the best characters ever written... as CJ would say, why wouldn't I watch it?

Bill Bailey never did quite replace Sam Sebourn for me, though.

CaveMum · 16/05/2011 22:21

NormanTebbit I thinkbyou might like this link Grin

cavemum that was DH and me last night - just-one-more-ing until after midnight on a school night. Oh dear.

culturemulcher · 16/05/2011 22:23

Seaborn Blush

CJCregg · 16/05/2011 22:27

Always happy to join a WW thread Grin

Haven't watched any for a few months, and am starting to get withdrawal symptoms.

It is impossible to watch fewer than three episodes in a sitting.

So many favourite moments, but one of the best is Josh and the President's Secret Plan to Beat Inflation.

EggyAllenPoe · 16/05/2011 22:29

oh sweet sweet Seaborn...

i loved the first series. top top stuff.

enjoy:)

which series does CJ 'do' the Jackal...that rocked...
i don't even remember which one Mandy was.

CJCregg · 16/05/2011 22:31

The Jackal is series 1, I think - early, anyway.

Mandy best forgotten.

I love Sam's way of saying 'ya' - can't describe it here but it's so Sam. And his 'I may have accidentally slept with a call girl' is classic.

CaveMum · 16/05/2011 22:33

I'm pretty sure The Jackal is series 1.

Don't worry about forgetting Mandy, you're not missing much!

Right, only managed 2 tonight as my inconsiderate parents called. Off to bed and ready for another round tomorrow night!

Oh, this thread reminds me what wonderful people there are on MN (gush, gush).

I'd just finished watching epi 1 yesterday and saw this thread ....

(Well, it's not that wonderful ... I do re-watch bits of it every few months. Blush But I'm well on for a marathon.)

CaveMum · 16/05/2011 22:34

Ah but CJ (winner of most appropriate name btw), it's T

culturemulcher · 16/05/2011 22:34

Mandy was the incredibly annoying perky Josh's ex who was annoyingly setting up her own lobbying company and annoyingly crashing her bmw in the first or second episode.

I think my favourite has to be the ep. where CJ finally dates Danny and messes it up, then finally gets it together. But I'm mushy like that.

tribpot · 16/05/2011 22:35

Yep, Jackal is Series 1.

Ah ... Big Block of Cheese Day.

CaveMum · 16/05/2011 22:36

Stupid iPhone!

As I was saying, it's Toby's response that never fails to crack me up:

"Did you trip?"

LRDTheFeministDragon · 16/05/2011 22:38
Grin

I love Toby so much. And that line.

culturemulcher · 16/05/2011 22:39

I just laughed at that joke all over again. Thanks cavemum

LRDTheFeministDragon · 16/05/2011 22:41

Although ... is it heresy to say I never much 'got' Rob Lowe as an actor or Sam as a character? I just feel he's the straight man to Toby and/or Josh pretty much all of the time he's not being Mr. Youthful Earnest Politics Guy ... the parallel there with William Hague was mentioned to me once and now won't go away... Sad

CJCregg · 16/05/2011 22:46

Ahhhh, Toby.

Love him. Love them all. The last time I was on one of these threads I ended up googling 'Bartlet for America' bumper stickers ...

Still want one of those - can't find what I want anywhere.

Oh, LemonLynam.com ...

'Yeah - and I'm gonna win' Grin Grin Grin

culturemulcher · 16/05/2011 22:47

Talking of ditched characters (Mandy) and recurring characters (Sam / Bill) it's funny how the small, blond-bombshell with an enormous brain character reappears again and again... Ainsley Hayes (Republican lawyer) and whats-her-name who takes over from CJ and Toby then runs Leo McGarry's campaign.

Actually, Mandy does reappear in a toned down version as Amy Gardner. Seems they were determined to team Josh up with a smart, feminist brunette.

Or maybe I'm over-thinking this a little.

beachholiday · 16/05/2011 22:53

Favorite Moments:

When a very stressed Charlie is explaining to Zoe the pressure he feels, surrounded by these ultra-bright people, and Josh sits down on a chair that isn't there.

Toby's "Babies come with hats" speech, which I now have to watch again, as I missed noticing that Emilio Estevez plays the younger Jed Bartlett, in the home movies of Zoe they are rolling on the TV screen on the wall?

Josh's dismay when he realises that CJ is in fact looking for him, and tries to hide in his office.

Election Day (Part 2) is the most memorable episode for me but it's very emotional to watch, especially Bradley Whitford's performance, after John Spencer's death.

And I never believed Toby's exit story.
