I've decided to watch West Wing again from the beginning. Anyone care to join me?

I watched a random episode at the weekend and gosh darn it I had forgotten just how much I love this show!

Starting tonight I'm going to start rewatching the whole thing from the very beginning. Anyone want to join me, or just generally share the West Wing love?

It took me until series 2 to realise (Mrs) Dr. Bartlet had been Rizzo in Grease.

Hassled · 18/05/2011 16:58

Oh my fellow WW obsessives - I want to gather you all for a group hug :o.

DH and I are on Series 4 for the third (possibly fourth) time around the loop. Josh has just lost a Democrat by being a fool, and Donna is being lovely and loyal. Irritating but strangely cute rich intern is around.

I got the Mad Men boxset recently and we keep saying we must stop with the WW and give MM a try, but every night DH is home (not often) it's "Fancy a West Wing?". It's like an addiction.

Donna Moss: I had a plan. I grew up on a farm.
Josh Lyman: You grew up in a condo.
Donna Moss: I grew up near a farm. And I was cute, and I was peppy, and I always did well on my nineteenth-century English literature midterm until you came along and sucked me into your life of crime.
Josh Lyman: Hey, I'm not the...
Donna Moss: White-collar crime boy. You know what they do to a girl like me on that cell block? I've seen those movies.
Josh Lyman: Yeah, me, too.
Donna Moss: I'll bet you have.
Josh Lyman: Look...
Donna Moss: Sell my farm girl ass for a carton of Luckys.

This could be the start of something wonderful on mumsnet. Perhaps we could get our own topic!

flowery · 18/05/2011 17:29

That wikiquotes website posted earlier in the thread is fab. Couldn't stop reading yesterday and therefore didn't get much work done

OhmeoOhmyo · 18/05/2011 17:30

What a great thread - was thinking of starting one.

at my new name

I love that every time I watch the WW I still "get" more lines I missed. Love the dialogue.

My poor children chant in response now to, "There is one fruit, and one fruit only..."
"There are three words in the English language that start with the letters 'dw'."

Hassled · 18/05/2011 17:37

Ooo - our own topic :o. BartletNet has a nice ring to it, don't you think?

I sent my (adult) DS1 one of these as a surprise moving in present when he moved to his new flat. I think it was the best-received present I've ever given him.

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 18/05/2011 18:21

One thing that always bugged me in WW: at one point Bartlet refers to Leo as being 'Boston Irish', but at another point Leo says that he gets on with another character because 'We are both men of Chicago' ...

OhmeoOhmyo · 18/05/2011 18:32

I noticed that too. It was Josh I think, who referred to Leo being "Boston Irish" and there being nothing unusual about a drink problem. Then Bartlet, being sensitive about Oliver Babish (sp?) mentions how people from Chicago never actually live there so why go on about how great it is.

Also, Continuity Folk, wasn't it the wanky US ambassador to Bulgaria who was having an affair with the Prime Minister's daughter and Bartlet shuffles loads of jobs around? He was v snotty to Charlie. Later though, Bartlet says it was the ambassador to Bolivia.

And now I am one of the "special people" (TM Josh Lyman) just like the temp with the Star Wars pin. "Let's list all our favourite episodes.... that's not a hobby, that's a fetish."

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 18/05/2011 18:34

Oliver Babbish with two bs?

Don't remember Bulgaria/Bolivia. Perhaps it is after all time for me to haul out the box-set and start again. Smile

EustaciaVye · 18/05/2011 18:36

"Fancy a West Wing?" uttered many an evening in our house too....

EustaciaVye · 18/05/2011 18:36

Yes was Bulgaria (only watched recently).

NormanTebbit · 18/05/2011 18:38

I have seen West West appreciators referred to as "wingnuts"

I though the Bulgaria ambassador was moved to Bolivia - does that make more sense?

I didn't like Toby's story towards the end.

I miss CJ though. I loved CJ.

AnonymousBird · 18/05/2011 18:42

OH god I love this show.

SIL borrowed the first two box sets about 5 years ago and has subsequently denied all knowledge Hmm. I'll never ever quite forgive her because I could so watch the whole damned thing from start to finish right now.

Mandy??? my memory does not serve me well.. i'd forgotten all about her!

NormanTebbit · 18/05/2011 18:46

Josh, I hear you. Am now going to do some sodding work

OhmeoOhmyo · 18/05/2011 18:46

Agree the Toby story was crap. I love Toby (also pretty much all the original cast...) "...the dead. And how I wish I were one of them."

Wingnuts - aren't they Republicans?

I loved CJ in Press Secretary mode. Admittedly equally wonderful as CoS but think she lost the humour (savin' the world et al)

My dd wants to be CJ when she grows up. I shake a jealous fist at the poster who got to CJ Cregg before me.

basingstoke · 18/05/2011 18:54

Love, love it, love it.

Love Toby and Josh. Worship at the altar of CJ.

OhmeoOhmyo · 18/05/2011 19:00

I know I'm jumping ahead but I never understood exactly what Josh did after he and Amy had the Marriage Incentives row (where she threw his mobile in the stew) that made her lose her job? He offered her boss a job was all I could get.

munkysea · 18/05/2011 19:04

CJ, Abbey Bartlet and Donna are some of the best written female characters on TV. I loved loved loved Josh, Toby and Sam. Brilliant writing all round, really.

Cristiane · 18/05/2011 19:07

I am on series seven... For the seventh time... Election day!

I take your west wing and i raise it...

What's your favourite episode, mine is 'evidence of things not seen'

OhmeoOhmyo · 18/05/2011 19:13

Amending my last post: "solution" to insomnia would have prob put me to sleep! Great, in any case, for the wee small hours. And agree, munkysea, great for portraying clever, strong, funny and totally believable women characters.

And funny bits. The "photo op with a cow?" - "It's not a sit-down."

NormanTebbit · 18/05/2011 19:24

"Toby Ziegler. I work at The White House."

OhmeoOhmyo · 18/05/2011 19:28

"Good cop bad cop? How about you be the good cop and I be the cop who doesn't go to the meeting?"

CaveMum · 18/05/2011 19:33

Glad the love is still flowing!
I'm just finishing episode 8 of Series 1. Definitely time to fit a few 4 more in before bed time.

When I first watched the Election Night episodes I kept out of my chair and cheered when Josh got up to follow Donna to the lift Grin.

As I said before, The Supremes is one of my favourite episodes, as is the one in Series 6 about the stem cell research bill. I can't remember what it is called.

So glad other people had difficulty with Toby's exit storyline too - if it is any comfort, Richard Schiff said Toby would never in a million years have done that, and in his head, Toby was covering for someone else. That comforts me watching those scenes.
