I've decided to watch West Wing again from the beginning. Anyone care to join me?

I watched a random episode at the weekend and gosh darn it I had forgotten just how much I love this show!

Starting tonight I'm going to start rewatching the whole thing from the very beginning. Anyone want to join me, or just generally share the West Wing love?

"This guys walking down the street when he falls in a hole..."

BananaGio · 18/05/2011 19:36

Hassled I love those napkin gifts! Favourite episodes mmm not easy. Series 1 I love These crackpots and These Women and Let Bartlett be Bartlett.Series 2 The shadow of the gunmen ones (especially Josh when he turns up at Sam's workplace soaking wet and Sam just gets up and follows him. Goosebumps.) Oh and Two Cathedrals - Bartlett having it out with God over a cigarette. Wonderful!

OhmeoOhmyo · 18/05/2011 19:37

Another favourite exchange:

Mrs Landingham: "Sarcasm. The grumpy man's wit."
Leo: "Go sharpen a pencil will you?"

"When I first watched the Election Night episodes I kept out of my chair and cheered when Josh got up to follow Donna to the lift ."

Dear God, that was a long time coming...

bigkidsmademe · 18/05/2011 19:43

I've only seen it all the way through once, so I am in awe of all of your knowledge. I remember getting to series 7 and feeling like when I get to the last pages of a Jilly Cooper, desperate not to finish, oh the joy of having it all to watch :)

Anyway, my favourite bits are yes that moment when Josh and Donna get together and the time Bartlet destroys the Christian Right woman who doesn't stand up for him.

I think I could fit in a few more tomorrow! Hurray for mat leave and a baby who only naps on me!

LRDTheFeministDragon · 18/05/2011 19:43

Noooo, we can't talk about that without massive SPOILERS ALERT can we, isn't someone watching for the first time?

I do love Josh and Donna - they're so much fun to watch right from the get-go.

tribpot · 18/05/2011 19:45

Cristiane, Evidence of Things Not Seen is one of my favourites too!

Also agree about Toby's storyline, it was stoopid. Although I love CJ her change of job was also completely unbelievable. Very obvious ratings-chaser in my view.

Lest we forget in the pantheon of the goddesses: Joey Lucas. "We are, in fact, eating more beets".

We love WW and indeed those that do love WW are called Wingnuts.

So glad that there are other Mandy-haters out there. My DH loves Mandy. When I first watched series one with DH (he's a long-time fan) I hated Mandy and said I would not continue watching series two if she appeared again, thank god she was written out. I have just shown DH all the posts about Mandy to prove I am not alone in my opinion and his comment was... "you are all just a bunch of mothers... what would you all know."

He's very defensive when it comes to anything to do with The West Wing ... every part of it is amazing as far as he is concerned.

NormanTebbit · 18/05/2011 20:10

Josh is a bit of a twat though, isn't he. I loved that the writers made him this character who was capable of behaving in such a twattish manner especially to women but sooo likeable in other respects.

Doesn't he explain at some point that he spent his university years studying so hard he never really got much practice at relationships?

BananaGio · 18/05/2011 20:12

Leo McGarry: You can sign the president's name?
Margaret: Yeah.
Leo McGarry: On a document removing him from power and giving it to someone else?
Margaret: Yeah. Or do you think the White House Counsel would say that's a bad idea?
Leo McGarry: I think the White House Counsel would say that's a Coup D'Etat.
Margaret: I'd probably end up doing some time for that.
Leo McGarry: I would think.

Genius!

lionheart · 18/05/2011 20:13

Gosh, I could definitely go around again with this.

LRDTheFeministDragon · 18/05/2011 20:22

That's it exactly NT - he's excruciating to watch at times and you do feel massively for Donna working for him on occasion - but he comes across as gauche so you root for him, too.

'Great day in the morning people, victory is mine!'

NormanTebbit · 18/05/2011 20:30

There were times when I felt like throwing something at the TV on Donna's behalf.

"Donna!"

Cristiane · 18/05/2011 20:32

The thing about watchinng ww from the beginning is that it can look kinda dated with those clunky shoes Donna wears! But i forget that in seconds

Did any of you hear martin sheen on desert island discs? Beautiful

culturemulcher · 18/05/2011 20:40

"When I first watched the Election Night episodes I kept out of my chair and cheered when Josh got up to follow Donna to the lift ."

Me too cavemum. One of my very favourite episodes.

'Fancy a West Wing?' also a household mantra here. DH working late tonight and I'm forbidden to watch one without him as we'd get out of step... even though we've watched them a gazillion times.

LRDTheFeministDragon · 18/05/2011 20:42

Me too NT - but he does also let her get away with murder in terms of sniping at him, so I reckon she has a pretty fun time.

I also love how useless Josh is at asserting his authority - I forget what CJ is asking him to do, but there's a point when she gives him an order and he says 'You know I outrank you by, like, fourteen rungs or something?'. She just yells 'Go!' and he goes. Grin

Cristi - yes, and those 90s suits! Especially the skirt-suits the women wear with super-long jackets. But I kind of like it - like ER, when they're wearing those huge long shapeless coats in the first couple of seasons that I thought were so chic when they were in. Blush

"Well over three and half centuries ago, strengthened by faith and bound by a common desire for liberty, a small band of pilgrims sought out a place in the New World where they could worship according to their own beliefs - and solve crimes."

NormanTebbit · 18/05/2011 20:43

One of my favourites is 'The Secret Plan to Beat Inflation.' Josh at his best and his worst.

LRDTheFeministDragon · 18/05/2011 20:46

trib - PMSL.

Oh god, the secret plant to fight inflation .... I love it. I also love his rant calling CJ a 'paranoid Berkeley shiksa feminista'. Wow, Josh, you bit of more than you could chew there ...

LRDTheFeministDragon · 18/05/2011 20:47

  • or 'bit off', even.

Somehow, typos seem worse on this thread. Blush I imagine Bartlett round the corner sighing about Latin ...

PorkChopSter · 18/05/2011 20:49

We got LoveFilm just so we could start at the beginning Grin We are in the middle of series 6 (again) and still haven't got round to the series 7 I got for Christmas.

I still think Martin Sheen needs new, better fitting teeth.

tribpot · 18/05/2011 20:51

Such as when they don't want to spend Thanksgiving finding out what the Latin for yam is - hilarious.

And so brave to do that whole speech in Latin in the cathedral, amazing.

Just a reminder, people, as LRD says no spoilers please!

CaveMum · 18/05/2011 20:53

The episode I'm currently watching always brings a lump to my throat. It's the one where Toby arranges the funeral for the homeless war veteran. Watching Mrs Landingham at the funeral, thinking about her dead sons makes me very teary Sad

Bumperlicioso · 18/05/2011 20:56

Oh yes 'fancy a West Wing?' is a common refrain in our house too :)

NormanTebbit · 18/05/2011 20:57

can I just say that i am supposed to be writing an essay I'm so glad that there are other like-minded people on mumsnet Bartletnet
