thefirstMrsDeVere · 21/02/2011 22:21

I was 40 and 42 my notes didnt say geriatric but my age WAS highlighted in fluoro pink pen Grin

galwaygal · 21/02/2011 22:34

Just to clarify the numbers dropped to 104 as the contraction increased and measured at 32. The babies heartrate went as low at 104 on the screen shown not 30!

I just find this program addictive!!!

PaulaYatesbiggestfan · 21/02/2011 22:34

not that you were paying attention Galwaygal ;)

galwaygal · 21/02/2011 22:37

OK I admit it, I recorded it and went back to check!!! Wink

nailak · 21/02/2011 23:05

when i called the ambulance i waited 2 hrs then they phoned to say they not coming!!!!!

the geriatric mum she had decided from beginning she wanted epidurals but didmt seem to kno about the side effects such as slowing down labour?

isthismadness · 21/02/2011 23:37

Well spotted! I did wonder why they weren't doing a crash section!!

BalloonSlayer · 22/02/2011 08:33

Haven't seen this episode yet but re the comments on the nail varnish I was astonished that the lady with the heart problem a few weeks ago was allowed to keep her nail varnish on. I'd have thought of all people they'd need to keep an eye on her nail beds.

crikeybadger · 22/02/2011 08:56

thebrownstuff- oh sorry- didn't mean to be weird, I was just a bit slow on the uptake! Smile

I think maybe the programme should be narrated as there seems to be some strange leaps in the editing and you kind of lose what's going on. They then could have explained why the forceps delivery was needed and why the baby had to be checked out as soon as it was born.

lovenamechange100 · 22/02/2011 09:29

I would love to watch this for the happy bits but dont trust myself as TTC!

slartybartfast · 22/02/2011 09:41

i couldnt be a midwife. i woudl be so emotional - crying when all the babies are born.

Paula30CWR · 22/02/2011 10:44

I was scared enough the first time I watched OBEM so, there is no way I'll watch it again!!!

I'm due to give birth in days and the last thing I want is seeing what I might have to go through. I think the whole labour thing is scary enough when it's your first one...so why kill myself beforehand? hehehe

stainesmassif · 22/02/2011 12:37

OBEM makes me cry every time and i didn't even cry at my own two deliveries. why is that?!

susie100 · 22/02/2011 14:28

Anyone else appalled at the midwife who would not take her hand out even though kaycee was asking her to remove it during a contraction?

What is the justifcation for that?

drivingmisscrazy · 22/02/2011 14:58

It would be interesting if OBEM asked in their post-birth interviews about the mothers' experience - was it what they wanted? would they do it differently with hindsight? Given that the programme aims to reveal the truth about something which is often hidden and private (at least in one way) it would be good to know how the mothers themselves felt about their birth experiences (but perhaps they are on MN about that instead!)

VivaLeBeaver · 22/02/2011 19:34

Susie - there's no justification for it, its assualt. I always tell women before doing a VE that if they want me to stop to tell me and I'll stop. If they ask I stop, even if I haven't managed to get the dilatation.

As a student I saw a midwife carry on when a woman was begging her to stop and found it rather awful. In this case the midwfe justified it in that the baby was in distress and she felt she really needed to ascertain what was happening as a matter of life or death.

susie100 · 23/02/2011 18:14

Thanks Viva, it did look so wrong on the screen, am glad it is not standard proceedure!

shmoz · 23/02/2011 21:03

stainesmassif me too! weird or what?

I've been in poland for the last month so have missed OBEM, thank god for 4od when I get back next week!

stainesmassif · 24/02/2011 11:18

shmoz it's that moment when the baby comes out. i'm choked up every time without fail. i guess i was concentrating on other things when my two arrived!!
