Not sure I can watch next weeks if it is about a twin birth that doesn't go to plan. A little too close to home maybe for me.

Oh my goodness, that trailer for the programme on care of the elderly Sad

NotAnotherNewNappy · 21/02/2011 22:01

kerrymumbles - Kaycey was 17, 'geriatric' mum was 37

FriggFRIGG · 21/02/2011 22:01

awhh,that was a lovely episode...Smile

i think, instead of having another baby...i might become a midwife...

ng1412 · 21/02/2011 22:01

next week does look harrowing.

kerrymumbles, the mums were 37 and 17.

drivingmisscrazy · 21/02/2011 22:01

kerry - that's not the first time that's happened - baby rooting, everyone busy with cameras :(

ng1412 · 21/02/2011 22:01

same time next week, see y'all then.

Hermya321 · 21/02/2011 22:02

See you next week ladies!!!

sheeplikessleep · 21/02/2011 22:02

yeah, i appreciate baby has to be checked over straightaway. just makes me feel a bit sad ds1 was similar - taken away and checked. ds2 was left with me for ages. i look back at the two births with such different emotions. it brought it back seeing that little man being whipped away so quickly.

sheeplikessleep · 21/02/2011 22:03

night

ohmeohmy · 21/02/2011 22:04

why can't they be checked while mum holds them? If breathing then surely rest of checks could be done that way and skin to skin known to be best way to regulate ody temp.

DuelingFanjo · 21/02/2011 22:04

it might be that the young mum didn't want to breastfeed?

ohmeohmy · 21/02/2011 22:04

ohmeohmy, my baby had to be checked over and my birth was quite similar to 'geriatric' mum's. I had no skin to skin and it's something I really regret. In her case I am sure she would have had the opportunity to have skin to skin after the checks if she wanted it. I didn't see my baby for hours :(

sweetkitty · 21/02/2011 22:07

Oh what us wrong with me, I have 4, youngest us 9 months and a rubbish sleeper, I detest being pregnant have bad SPD everytime but oh those babies make me so broody.

Would be nice if they showed a newborn having a root and a feed.

thebrownstuff · 21/02/2011 22:08

crickey I was responding to your question 21.56...we all seemed to have missed the details of that baby coming out...so it was all a mysmisstery...Never mind, you had to have been there Grin

ohmeohmy · 21/02/2011 22:11

sorry to hear that DF. I missed out first time round. Seems to me in many cases the midwives could make small changes in their practice that would enrich things for mum and baby.

With a heart rate of 30 that baby was potentially VERY sick. It was almost a section. They were v calm soothe urgency didn't come across. Baby def needed to be checked over first rather than immediate skin to skin.

cocoachannel · 21/02/2011 22:14

Hoping DC1 will have arrived this time next week, but don't think I'll watch if she hasn't and it's going to be a sad one...

Have a lovely week ladies!

Whatevertheweather · 21/02/2011 22:14

Ah my sister assisted with the 'geriatric' mums ventouse birth! First time she's been in an episode - it was a bit blink and you missed her!

She said the lady was absolutely lovely and she did the baby checks on the baby due to the low hr but he was then straight to mum for skin to skin. He was absolutely fine.

drivingmisscrazy · 21/02/2011 22:14

dueling - that would totally be her decision - I only meant that the poor baby is hungry!

expatinscotland · 21/02/2011 22:18

I was 37 when I had DS. My notes didn't say 'geriatric', though, just said, 'Multip' or G4/P2
