Promising start to the series last night - just as The Guardian promised, Prime Suspect meets State of Play with a bit of Wallander (i.e. Scandinavian and with subtitles). Really moving scene where the couple whose daughter's body had been found then tried to explain it to their younger children.

Anyone else see it?

Yes I suppose we are all assuming hunt in woods followed by dumping in car. But it could be hunt in wood, taken somewhere else and abused and then dumped in car. Is there anywhere near the woods?
Don't we know its her in the woods because of the slip she is wearing? I certainly didn't assume it was anyone else!

Rofl at Upcrack! I actually keep telling myself I need to get a new ('proper') nickname, but ahem, please don't be offended if I don't use your offering :o

I think Darren is a crap equivalent of Troels - no idea why. Just looked up Troels and apparently it means 'Thor's arrow'. I think something more of a 'standard' or neutral name might have been better, even something like Thomas (although Thomas is used in Danish). But this is getting a bit too much into baby name politics which can be be a bit dangerous online! (Disclaimer, nothing wrong with the name Darren, it just doesn't seem a good English equivalent to me).

But yes, the Danes are really happy that it is such a big hit in the UK. We get so much British and American tv here and very little goes the other way (what with being a small, some might say insignificant, country etc) so there's definitely a bit pride involved!

So I've bought my Faroese wool, my 8mm needles and stitchcounter and a generic pattern, and am now just waiting for the Internet gods to deliver their bounty. I predict this will be a disaster, but at least it will kill some time in a productive fashion before an affordable knockoff arrives in New Look :D
Oh and in a bid to contribute to the incident board, I'm sure Rie is as much of a plant as Brix, who installed her there to keep an eye on Troels?

Fivecentsplease · 11/03/2011 14:26

Hello all

Still clinging to the theory that she was raped by more than one person at the flat and then another is the killer. On the Vagn front, she might well have called him for help, as she knew the parents were away - and he did seem keen to drop Rama in it, AND he knows someone at police HQ, as he found out about Rama, so could be following Lund's progress.

But, he just doesn't have the access to all the City Hall stuff, so while her rape could be tied up to political prostitute scandal, he could still be her stalker/killer.

Hmmm

teej · 11/03/2011 14:40

upsince truly truly sorry Blush - am working on mega report for work so have a veritable torrent of thoughts/words rushing through my head and am coming here for the odd minute's respite!
you know, interestingly, it was the link to that article that shoved my thinking decisively along this path - because the picture caught my eye and got me re-evaluating everything again.

still do not understand why she went to see Rama. returning books is a croc - maybe she was seeking advice from him on how to get rid of the stalker before confronting them? but in that case why doesn't rama just say that?? one of the many things that just doesn't make sense.

atswim gives me the shivers to think she may have been kept in her own room - hadn't thought of that...

I think she fancied Rama, but he rejected her: perhaps he gave her misleading come on at the party.

Also, she had planned not to be a Lisa's (the friend's) house over the weekend, so she had something in mind.

prolesworth - you are not alone in that - I spend many hours cruising Ystad when wallander was on! Good thing this is anonymous!

teej · 11/03/2011 15:04
Grin and a celebratory Wine too!
teej · 11/03/2011 15:05

fivecents - DP has a work colleague who actually comes from around Ystad. you have no idea the stupid questions i have asked.....

teej · 11/03/2011 15:08

fivecents oh yes good point - do you think she was as delusional about Rama as the presumed stalker/killer was about her?
i just didn't get the impression there was anything going on there...

Fivecentsplease · 11/03/2011 15:57

hee hee teej It wasn't "do you know Kurt Wallander" was it....We lived next door once, back in the smoke, to the actor that played Inspector Dalgleish, and I told him once, as a conversational gambit that we felt safe with copper next door. Fell so flat. Blush.

atswimtwolengths · 11/03/2011 16:00

OK this is where I'm up to so far.

Nanna goes to the flat thinking she is actually meeting Troels again. We have only his word for it that she got fed up with him. I think Morten has logged in as Faust and arranged to meet her in the flat. Hence her excitement - Troels' face is everywhere and she's flattered. Morten attacks her and then bundles her into the car and takes her to the woods. He leaves the flat as it is, so that Troels will be implicated. Morten thinks that he will be the natural successor to Troels, but the fact is he doesn't have the charisma that's necessary for the job. He feels he's doing all the work for Troels and Troels is just taking the benefit. They have known each other twenty years and massive resentment has built up.

Nanna runs away from Morten through the woods. We see that happen at the start of episode 1 - by the way I think it is Nanna, not another girl, who's being chased. However, we assume she's caught. I think she gets back to the car before he does and drives off, leaving Morten there. He has to walk back, hence his need for new shoes.

In the meantime, Nanna phones her father at the garage and the dad's little mate answers the phone. He gets in her car and drives her to the new house. He keeps her there for two days 'taking care' of her. He's jealous of her affair and drowns her.

The necklace she's clutching is one he'd bought for her.

Now I KNOWN this leaves a lot of loose ends - the trips to Latvia, etc. And I do think that Ria's dad is behind the setting up of Troels.

Tell me what you think!

teej · 11/03/2011 16:04

rofl fivecents love it!
no, more like what's Ystad really like, where is that blinking tunnel and is it really possible to just pop back and forth?, how big is it, are most of the houses really lovely or is that just good selection?, wouldn't the water be ruddy freezo for sailing, and btw do you know your murder rate is really high?!
always a tinge of sadness with the krister series though, what with what happened to his on-screen daughter in RLSad

teej · 11/03/2011 16:06

atswim i like it!

atswimtwolengths · 11/03/2011 16:10

The end of that last Wallander season was a terrible shock for me. Thinking of what happened then to the daughter was dreadful, really dreadful.

teej · 11/03/2011 16:11

'cept i think i'd have holck in the frame rather than morten... i just can't see him getting over his passive agressiveness to actually be aggressive iykwim...
also still think he has guycrush on troels....

teej · 11/03/2011 16:13

atswim i know Sad, had a really terrible impact on Mankell as well by all accounts

Fivecentsplease · 11/03/2011 16:14

Agree with you there teej. Henning Mankell wouldn't write any more Wallander after that, as he felt he had played a part in adding to her depression, with the grim story lines.

Perhaps atswim if you go with the Vagn theory, he was following her, and when she got to the empty flat he saw his chance. Rather have Vagn down as just a bit of a needy friend, rather than the culprit: But it would tie in the Theiss Pernille story line better than it all being city hall based.

He did say. meaningfully, about the drug dealer beating "Theis didn't do anything." Maybe he did it and Theis took the rap?

Blackduck · 11/03/2011 16:14

Oh atswim I like it - but Troels has claimed all the way along that he doesn't know Nanna (is he lying!)

The Latvia stuff could just be a huge red herring.

atswimtwolengths · 11/03/2011 16:23

OK well he didn't know her then, but Morten sent an email from Faust, saying Faust was Troels and asking her to come to the flat.

I think there is something going on with Latvia and underage girls, but CANNOT LINK IT TO NANNA!!!

So, so frustrating!

And good point about Vagn taking the rap for Theis!

Fivecentsplease · 11/03/2011 16:25

What about the lovely Knud Grin. Seriously though, looks don't always mean a thing when there's power involved. You're right atswim Troels wouldn't text. Shagaround would. And he was supposed to have been having an affair which had recently come to an end, AND the texts were from Latvia (or did I dream that...)

atswimtwolengths · 11/03/2011 16:26

No, I don't think Troels was bombarding Nanna with texts.

Maybe she was seeing the greasy leader of the coalition and dumped him (who wouldn't?) I'm sure things like that would be known amongst the people working in the office.

Then Morten emailed her as though he was Troels. If she's impressed by power, then she'd be excited about going on a date with Troels.

atswimtwolengths · 11/03/2011 16:26

Who is Shagaround? I'm getting confused!

Which one is Knud?

And what about the name Bigum - isn't that marvellous?

Anonymousbird · 11/03/2011 16:27

Oh, I'm catching up, but still can only read the first few pages of this thread so as to avoid any spoilers....... I LOVE this show.

It is pure class. So understated (which gives it such power) and the characters are complex and all so beautifully flawed. And that music that builds up towards the end just transfixes me and I am literally shuddering by the time the titles roll.

WOW WOW WOW. Have watched 8 episodes this week!
