Promising start to the series last night - just as The Guardian promised, Prime Suspect meets State of Play with a bit of Wallander (i.e. Scandinavian and with subtitles). Really moving scene where the couple whose daughter's body had been found then tried to explain it to their younger children.

Anyone else see it?

Oh oh forgot about the necklace!! Yes, why haven't they followed that up too? Love ' hairspray head''!!!

atswimtwolengths · 08/03/2011 18:05

Can't remember the necklace, Blackduck - can you tell me, please?

cornerstone75 · 08/03/2011 18:14

Ooh yes the gold heart necklace...she was clutching it tightly in her hand atswimtwolengths (sorry think I have been misspelling your name) and Pernille said it wasn't Nanna's and she'd never seen it before. I had completely forgotten about that.

cornerstone75 · 08/03/2011 18:16

I meant Nanna was clutching it in her hand when she died...I get so overexcited with this thread... Blush

atswimtwolengths · 08/03/2011 18:19

Arrghh! Well the only person who'd be wearing a necklace would be Rie, don't you think?

I remember thinking that Nanna's friend knew more than she was letting on - surprising they haven't gone back to interview her again. Also they didn't (seem to) interview anyone who she worked with in her evening job.

cornerstone75 · 08/03/2011 18:22

Yes, good point...do you remember the shifty looking barman that was watching Charlotte while she was trying to talk to Lund about Nanna working there?

Fivecentsplease · 08/03/2011 18:25

Heart necklace .....Hart man necklace....?

Hmmm? Hmmmm?

cornerstone75 · 08/03/2011 18:25

The necklace could also have been a(nother) secret gift though couldn't it? Easier to hide than the ugly boots

Fivecentsplease · 08/03/2011 18:26

OH and I bet shifty barman is the pimp for the nana amateur prostitute theory.

atswimtwolengths · 08/03/2011 18:38

Fivecents - remember it's Danish!

Fivecentsplease · 08/03/2011 18:48

Doh!! losing grasp on real life i fear......

Fivecentsplease · 08/03/2011 18:50

ooh ooh - Danish for heart is Hjerte - it sounds the same!!! well, ish

muminlondon · 08/03/2011 19:32

Wow, I can't keep up with this thread! I followed up a link posted on the Guardian articles - a discussion between the Danish and US producers on the remake, with some clips of each. It's really interesting and I now know how to pronounce 'Forbrydelsen' (sounds like 'broodle' in the middle). here

atswimtwolengths · 08/03/2011 19:43

Thanks, muminlondon; I'm watching that now - very interesting.

muminlondon · 08/03/2011 20:03

The US production people seem to really respect the original version but they have to play to American audience and limitations - ad breaks, 13 parts not 20. And the bit I noticed was the tendency of US drama characters to psychoanalyse complete strangers, i.e. Meyer to Lund on first day 'Is that why you are running away? Because you don't know?' Thankfully the Danish version avoids all that!

Thanks for starting the thread in the first place!
That quote from the US show made me laugh (and vom). Thank heavens in the Danish version we get Meyer asking Lund
"First the Norwegian, now the kid, hope your mum doesn't pack up and leave too" (I paraphrase..)

muminlondon · 08/03/2011 23:20

it's worth it anonymousbird! Also just read post by Politixmum about Sopranos. That was my favourite show until I gave birth and suddenly I couldn't watch it any more. How weird is that?

OK I have something else to say about this (just spent the evening at my neighbour's - we are avid viewers!)

In the first episode, they find a video card in the field. Lund goes to the family home and sees a photo of Nanna and asks whether she's missing. She assumes that Nanna had the video card.

Now - what if the video card had been borrowed by someone else. What about the sister? She's already a proven liar and she mixes with dodgy people in the club. Do you think she borrowed the card?

And (ta da...) do you think that it's her necklace that Nanna grabbed, just before she died?

I can sleep easy now I've shared that with you all!

Read guardian blog. Did I miss the shopping list trick? Have vague memory of it..

Blackduck · 09/03/2011 06:44

SHopping list is when Meyer is questioning Rie - another cop comes in and says 'your wife called' and he starts to read list 'cucumbers, milk' and then waving list at her he askes why, if Troels was with her, did she call him umpteen times on the Sat!
