Promising start to the series last night - just as The Guardian promised, Prime Suspect meets State of Play with a bit of Wallander (i.e. Scandinavian and with subtitles). Really moving scene where the couple whose daughter's body had been found then tried to explain it to their younger children.

Anyone else see it?

Erm, couldn't Nanna have bought the boots herself,
with the wages from the club she worked in? Which she hid in the wardrobe because she didn't want her mother to find out what she was doing and where she was working.

I still think Morton has more to do with it than he is letting on. He was the only one who knew about Troels going to the cottage and the door had been convenintly left open in the morning. Also I think that Vagn still involved some how and could have taken Nanna to the house that Theis bought as when Theis came to sell it the estate agent said there was dry rot in the basement and I seem to remember she had some marks from water before she went into the car. I think... quite sleeep deprived so maybe I am making that last bit up.

Stokey38 · 08/03/2011 10:39

The boots were bad. Very bad.

atswimtwolengths · 08/03/2011 11:06

Morton had new shoes in Episode 1.

He's hardly Jonathon Ross, is he? If he gets a new pair of shoes in the first episode, that should tell us something, shouldn't it? Were his other shoes wrecked in some way? (Can't quite bring myself to think Nanna would go shoe-shopping with Morton.)

atswimtwolengths · 08/03/2011 11:09

She had marks from being on a cement floor, Stokey, not watermarks! If you die in water, you can't tell that you'd got watermarks beforehand!

But I do think Vagn is involved. He seems to be hanging around when he doesn't have to be. And he told Theiss that he would've done anything for Nanna - even Theiss' eyes narrowed (still further) but then they were interrupted.

cornerstone75 · 08/03/2011 11:18

PMSL at Stokey's stream of consciousness post Grin

Yes, it was High Fidelity UpSinceCrapOClock ! I really love that film, surprised I couldn't place her.

Margles good point on the boots. Which she also hid in the wardrobe because they were a vile impulse purchase...

The 11,000 DKK she saved up for her brothers - how much is that in sterling? (Sorry CrapOClock !) Guessing about 5k? Maybe she was hostessing...which is how she was selected for the "hunting game"

Margles · 08/03/2011 11:38

11,000DKK = ~£1200

cornerstone75 · 08/03/2011 12:12

Oh that is not that much then - she could have made that from the bar job and working for Theis.
Thanks Margles I could have just googled that really...d'oh

Fivecentsplease · 08/03/2011 13:30

No-one gives poor Lund any support at all - her family have pops at 'your important case', Bengt was frankly arsy to make off after 12 days delay in the move she was making for him. Even sonny boy will be wanting to move in with hairspray head.

Meyer also has a demanding wife, Troels has an annoying/scheming girlfriend......Pernille/Theis have now lost the plot.....are there ANY functioning relationships here?

Incidentally, if I said to DH ' I want you gone by the time I come back' he would tell me to do one!

Any knitters out there, now is the chance to make your fortunes....

jammietart · 08/03/2011 14:03

I don't think we can use the cement floor clue - there are cement floors here, there and everywhere! Had missed about Morten's shoes.

I had an awful dream about Theis on saturday night. I woke up thinking he had done it. I really hope it doesn't turn out to be him.

atswimtwolengths · 08/03/2011 14:05

But, fivecentsplease, she had actually left her job! Her poor mum is having to put up with her there, eating out of pans, and is having to mind her swiftly-growing son, too. He must be eating loads, that boy!

Troels is waiting for me to marry him; that Rie tart is on a hiding to nothing.

Fivecentsplease · 08/03/2011 14:17

Eating out of pans is a sign of great consideration for the poor old mum - saving on washing up, surely. Wish mine would all trough from one pan.

Don't mess with Rie, atswim. She'll 'av yer.

KnitterNotTwitter · 08/03/2011 14:26

Hey... did a marathon yesterday and watched episodes 2 to 14... Feel a bit dizzy today but I have some other things to throw out for your consideration:

1, What about the necklace that Nanna was holding when they did the autopsy - suggests woman involved to me - Rie?
2, Why did Kemal (teacher) throw out a rug? Why did he have blood on his t-shirt and throw it out - wife queries this and he says it was because he cut himself with a stanley knife but seems suspicious to me) Why was there blood on Leyla's yellow top that they found in the lock-up/was it Nanna's yellow top?
3, In the mobile phone video of the party, Nanna seems to be smiling very nicely at the housemate of Oliver - I think this needs to be followed up...
4, Agree the boots need to be traced
5, Agree the missing girls files need to be read
6, All the drugs that the school boys took - who supplied them? Links to 20 year ago crime linked to Theis?

So many loose ends... I suspect that they'll never all be closed but I hope that some of them are...

wigwam1973 · 08/03/2011 14:26

Well, found myself re-watching Bengt's analysis from his hospital bed while Lund stroked him hand ([jealous emotion]). He categorically said 'he' this, and 'he' that - and that it was pre meditated. And then the bit about him leaving them in the water as it was something only he and the victim knew about - part of the ritual (sorry to sound vague, but had also stayed up reading the Guardian Killing blog, so was tired).

So, I'm still inclined to think it's a lone psycho, which wouldn't fit in with the hunting group of politicians/business men theory.

Tried to spread the good word at Toddler Group this morning. My friends just think I'm a silly old telly hog with no life I think. Blush

Oh, and one other person on the Guardian blog had noticed Theis's absurdly small knobbly knees! Hah! I didn't notice the tailor's dummy in Lund's mothers apartment though.

atswimtwolengths · 08/03/2011 14:46

Yes, that's the problem, wigwam, that the fingernails and the way she died, with only the two knowing about it, points the finger at a single suspect.

However, her running in the woods is obviously really significant as it starts every episode. It's obvious whoever is chasing her is prepared for this, he has night vision goggles. And that does lend itself to more than one killer.

Most serial killers are supposed to have a fantasy about the killing - they commit other crimes and eventually end up killing. There seems to be three things happening here though - the capture and holding her for a couple of days, the chase and the drowning. That seems very, very specific if it's to be a serial killer.

I am actually driving myself mad with this! And it's worse, too, because I know the ending is on Wikipedia - just a click away. Aaaaarrghhhh!!!!

atswimtwolengths · 08/03/2011 14:48

I didn't think his knees were too small, though. Most of his strength would be in his upper body, if he's lifting all day.

I did spend the first six or so episodes thinking it was Theis actually. Oh god, should I go back to suspecting him?

atswimtwolengths · 08/03/2011 14:48

Knitter, I took it that the yellow top wasn't actually Nanna's, but that Pernille wanted desperately to find out what had happened to her daughter and said it was her top.

KnitterNotTwitter · 08/03/2011 14:51

Ooooh and one other thing about the fingernails... Running through the woods and scrabbling up banks etc she'd've got grubby. So they must have scrubbed her fingernails after that, but before the car went into the water...

Margles · 08/03/2011 14:55

I thought that Nanna probably had the same top as the girl that the teacher was rescuing - probably came from H&M or somewhere, so not uncommon.

Theis - weedy knees. Vagn is also weedy, and he lifts all day, so should be a hulking strapping bloke. Unless of course, he just skives off and pretends he's working. Definitely a shifty character.

Politixmum · 08/03/2011 16:17

knitternottwitter (great name), good point about the necklace.

However Kemal's rug and t-shirt were slung out because they were blood-stained, the blood being Layla's as she was ill and they were trying to hide her from her family who wanted to force her into a marriage.

I have a whole new theory:

It was the jumper wot dunnit! You see they were twins. The jumper which got cut was able to establish an alibi for the mysteriously whole jumper which Lund is now wearing. The brown jumper is an accomplice of course.

wigwam1973 · 08/03/2011 16:23

The comment about his knees was purely an observation. They just seemed out of proportion for such a big strong Viking - you know how some people have big heads, or bums. And it somehow added to the pathos of him in the bunk bed in the doss house (or wherever it was) with his bowl of soup (and wasn't he wearing a Superman t-shirt).

I'll say no more about it.

atswimtwolengths · 08/03/2011 16:30

Yes, acute irony there, him in the doss house in his Superman teeshirt.

Anonymousbird · 08/03/2011 16:36

I haven't read any of the thread for the simple reason that the whole series so far is sitting very patiently awaiting my attention in Sky Plus. FINALLY, DH has had the decency to go away on a business trip for a few day and tonight is the night. 8pm, I am sitting down to watch the first few of this and I cannot bloody wait!!!!

DH refuses to read sub titles, so I am going this alone.....
