Promising start to the series last night - just as The Guardian promised, Prime Suspect meets State of Play with a bit of Wallander (i.e. Scandinavian and with subtitles). Really moving scene where the couple whose daughter's body had been found then tried to explain it to their younger children.

Anyone else see it?

I agree. Olaf (Olav?) is Bremer's spy on Troels, and he's def used the flat for some hanky panky in the past.

I'm not offended that my other theories have been discarded. Sad

And remember, it's the quiet ones you always have to watch out for.

P.S. Troel's has got amazing cheek bones, but doesn't do it for me. Not a patch on Bengt. Wink

teej · 03/03/2011 23:22

oh wigwam no! your theories aren't discarded because none of us have a clue what's going on, we're all just musing into the ether!
mitts off bengt....

:o at the fight over Troels and Bengt. Tthe actor who plays Troels is actually Mads Mikkelsen's brother - he of Casino Royale fame. I walked past him in the street once and he also has stunning cheekbones).

Am loving this thread although daren't say anything really as don't want to accidentally spoil anything.

GoodnightNobody · 04/03/2011 14:30

oh, oh, oh had flashback to first episode...didn't Troels turn up to a meeting saying he'd lost his watch and then Rie placed it in his hand saying it had been under her bed?

Perhaps he was with her on Friday night?

Also, do you remember the fox found in woods Nana had been in? Twas found in shallow grave with scarf aound it's neck as if was in area where hunting occured?

It's troubling that Nanna's death and Troel's apparent fate seem tied.

hmmm

stressymum73 · 04/03/2011 15:04

Fivecents, great news about Spirals as I too missed it the 1st time round but would love to get glued (again) when The Killing is over. I think the plot around Troels is a red herring as he wouldn't really have killed Nanna and then left the flat in such a mess would he? Or would he? He did appeared to be mesmerised by the bloody pillow on the bed...

I love the fact that Lund, who does not give a damn about her hair nor her hairy jumpers, is such a contrast to Rie, who is just too perfect to be true. And, isn't Troels such an enigmatic and gorgeous specimen of a man? Mmm....positively drooling here!

Even Theis and Pernille are compelling to watch...I am rooting for them to hang on in there...

TooTiredtoGoogle · 04/03/2011 15:23

I think Troels was in the flat but completely out of it (on his cocktail of prescription drugs and drink) when the assault took place. He can't remember it, but maybe bits are coming back to him, which is why he kept looking at the blood in bedroom

Blackduck · 04/03/2011 18:52

The jumper needs its own credits!! I still have no idea who/why, but am not sure it was directed at Nanna specifically, I think it could have been any young girl...

Habbibu · 04/03/2011 19:26

Ooh - good theories a'happnin. yy to Troels being out of it - I think that's quite likely, tbh.

Habbibu · 04/03/2011 19:33

Good summary from the Guardian here.

I especially like "Anyone else secretly quite enjoying exclaiming Troels! Theis! Nanna Birk Larsen! in a terrible approximation of a Danish accent?"

Habbibu · 04/03/2011 19:40

Plus there's a clip of the US remake. Which is so identical it's practically a dubbed slightly worse version, afaics. It's all Scandi names and US-Scandi accents anyway...

TooTiredtoGoogle · 04/03/2011 20:06

Thanks for posting that Guardian link, Habbibu.
I now think that whoever Nanna's lover was is not the killer and that Vagn probably had something to do with her captivity, but not her death.

cornerstone75 · 04/03/2011 21:23

Ooh hello everyone and sorry I'm late Grin
I've watched the whole 12 episodes so far on iplayer in a big marathon (have had an op and been stuck in bed)...now cannot wait for tomorrow night!

Really interesting theories on Troels passing out in the flat while it all happened. I am certain he didn't do it. He is just too ahem, lush.

I can't bear Rie, the manipulative cow who has now withdrawn his alibi.. she is so obvs out to progress herself politically.

I love Lund and her total obliviousness to life outside the case..(having said that my heart did break when Bengt got on the train Sad ) Think this has prolly been covered but I believe her lovely jumper must have been mended by her mum, who appears to be a dressmaker (and a sanctimonious cow)
The last scene where her hallway lighting had been cut did scare the bejesus out of me, as have a few other scenes where she has been alone in a dark dodgy looking place, sans gun as she doesn;t believe in carrying them..

I didn't like Meyer at first but really growing to like him as he acts like less of an impulsive nob-head, the character development in general is brilliant.

Also find Theis's employee (sorry forgot his name- is it Vagn?) very creepy but don't believe it's him somehow.

I have a feeling about the politician with the glasses (God, I'm shite with names) Not Morten, but the dude with the v-necks who went to Latvia with the mayor. He gives an air of sleaze.

All in all am loving it, absolutely amazing telly and unlike the usual drivel

I don't think its Nanna's lover either - not sure why, but I just don't (read too many crime novels, me!!)

Blackduck · 04/03/2011 22:01

Loved the bit '? If Lund doesn't read the files of the missing women soon, I'm going to do it for her.'!! so will we all be screaming at the screen on sat night (Sunday moening in my case) 'Read the BLOODY file'!!

Anybody know what the English equivalents of any of the Danish names might be? - assuming that there might be, sometimes?
Sarah = the obvious!
Nanna = Anna
Rie =? like Ria? (in Butterflies) short for Maria?
Pernille = Peronel? (never heard of anybody real called this, but Enid Blyton called Bessie's walking talking doll Peronel in "The Enchanted Wood")
(and please don't ask how i remember this so clearly....)
Vagn = Vaughan
Nethe = Annette

but Troels?? i can't even begin to imagine what English equivalent might be - that has me beat.
Couldn't be Tyrone could it? Wink

Btw I occasionally look away from the screen and think I am hearing Geordie people talking. Or is that just me?

aloiseb · 05/03/2011 00:26

I think Theis is saying the "mistakes" were in Nanna's upbringing? - letting her go out and not treating her as a younger child. Well, she was 19....

prolesworth yup, i heart the bbc in all its formats and want the tories to just leave it alone!!

Oh! upsince i'd forgotten there are those among us who know! you could slice cheese with those cheekbones, couldn't you? so basically they are Denmark's version of the McGann's then? Grin

cornerstone hope you are OK after your op and not busting any stitches while yelling at Lund to check out the boots, read the file, run to bengt and snog him you silly woman, or alternatively, go on, you know you want to - check out whether troels is a good snog during questioning!!! or maybe that's just me, without the stitches Hmm

still loving all the theories! current thinking on troels - i think nanna and her fancy man turned up at the flat and found troels od'd (am still on that train of thought.) i don't think nanna was there to meet troels because, to be frank, he wouldn't really be up for a shag after some sleeping pills, would he? unless of course she threatened to out him about a relationship they had? Hmm

fancy man goes off to help save troels, enter the killer...

teej · 05/03/2011 01:00

proles could the mistake be that theis and pernille got pg young and had it hard until they built up the business - and they just wanted nanna to have a less stressed and more financially solvent twenties?
