Promising start to the series last night - just as The Guardian promised, Prime Suspect meets State of Play with a bit of Wallander (i.e. Scandinavian and with subtitles). Really moving scene where the couple whose daughter's body had been found then tried to explain it to their younger children.

Anyone else see it?

Did Theis do a favour for the Turkish restaurant man e.g. was he some sort of henchman for him and sorted out the drug dealer? They all seem to owe each other including Vagn.

To get Troels to OD on his pills and drink - he'd have to know and feel at ease with the person who came to the flat - unlikely he was force fed them. Morten?

Am off to mutter Scandi names around Waitrose this morning and see who responds - tis like a secret society!

Finbar · 05/03/2011 09:20

Ooh - there are lots of ancient links between TYneside and Scandinavia that directly influenced the Geordie accent ; that's why when you look away it sounds like an episode of Spender/When the Boat Comes in/ Byker Grove ( delete according to your vintage!)

Libra · 05/03/2011 09:57

OK want to share my latest theory here because I can't discuss it with DH at all (Danish and knows who dunnit so we are not talking at all at moment in case he lets something slip).

My theory is that Nanna is not Theis' daughter but is instead Troels'. I think he and Pernille had a fling when she was younger and that this is what Theis was referring to in the last episode - that she slept around. I think that she and Troels recogised each other when they passed each other at the police station and shared a long look (if you remember) and it was only then that Troels realised that it was his daughter, from a youthful indiscretion, that had been killed.

loving the theories can't wait for tonight
want to know about the files of the missing woman and who is messing with Lund

Highlander · 05/03/2011 11:37

I still think Lund will shag Meyer.

God, I love Sat nights now!!!!

just aside from the plot I like it that it does not look American polished/sleek, people look like people and women are allowed to look their age/tired/dishevelled, while still looking great iyswim

plus with added bonus of lovely interiors Grin

cornerstone75 · 05/03/2011 13:25

teej PMSL - something like that! It is so absorbing, got me through 12 hours of pain & boredom Grin Well Troels has anyway (sigh) I think it's something to do with his, erm, length Blush either he is very tall and lovely or Rie is very petite (evil dwarf)

I also presumed the "mistake" Pernille made was getting prego with Nanna quite young, Nanna was 19 and Pernille looks about 40ish? and they live above the business (nowt wrong with that but guessing it's maybe not what they really wanted, part. as Vengt never seems to bugger off home), have only just got the "dream house" (which is full of dry rot, the bastard, and is to be sold now anyway)so I assumed the same - that they wanted Nanna to be a bit more "sorted" than them.

Wow, what a theory about Troels being Nanna's dad! That would be interesting.

I agree Prolesworth about BBC4, am also loving The Good Wife and the Big C, which really made me Blush this week, in a good way, natch.

Can't wait for tonight!

actually it is a bit annoying that the Guardian is now muscling into The Killing appreciation society, surely this copying of MN must stop, bandwagon joining journos

I'm liking Libra's theory re: Troels being Nanna's father. If so, does Theis know?

If Troels did pass out at the flat, then my bet is that Morten (as I said before Smile) came to sort him out. Was it Morten that the curly-haired-woman-that-slept-with-Troels saw at the window?

Can't wait for tonight.

aloiseb · 05/03/2011 17:53

Morten is v. fishy - it's never been adequately explained how the dodgy emails near the start of the series were being sent from his account. Troels just seemed to decide to take Morten's word for it that it wasn't him who had sent them.

or have I missed something? it's very hard to keep up with every thread of the plot when you keep falling asleep, due to having to wait up until boring Sat night TV has finished for the children!

(yes, sadly we only have as many TVs as Lund has jumpers...)

wigwam1973 · 05/03/2011 18:12

Easy to miss things, Aloiseb. I do find the recaps at the beginning quite good, and always available on Iplayer, which is handy.

DH says the end of the program is very 24esque i.e. it shows all the main characters doing their thing/looking anxious/mysterious/shifty, with the music playing before the credits roll.

Do you think Lund's mother is responsible for hand washing her jumpers as well as mending them?

I do hope Bengt puts in an appearance tonight. Just to make sure he's recovered from his accident, you understand. No other reason.....

Blackduck · 05/03/2011 18:19

I have my fix on a Sunday morning - iplayer, in bed....much better than having to wait for the TV to be free (we are also as limited re TV as Lund is re jumpers)...
Libra - is conversation in your house currently reduced to 'pass me the butter' and 'have you put the bins out?':)
so what do we need to know (besides who the killer is)

  1. boots
  2. bloody files
  3. do Troels and Pernilla know each other?
  4. what is in Theis' past
  5. Is Morten dodgy or just a flaky individual
  6. who was pretending to be Faust
  7. does Lund's mother mend AND handwash her jumpers
  8. what's in the saucepan she dines on every night.....

add youor own!!

wigwam1973 · 05/03/2011 18:24

stew, I reckon. I do wish she'd use a plate though. She won't win the lovely Bengt back with table manners like that! Sorry, I digress. Bath time calls

cornerstone75 · 05/03/2011 18:52

Yes the straight-from-the-pan dining isn't nice, but I guess it's one aspect of her utterly non-domesticated character (stereotyping much?!)

I love the music and the close up of Nanna's eye. Think I am giving this prog abit too much love, p'rhaps.

I don't think it's Morten! I assumed Olav (excuse typing) got into the laptop and sent those emails. As he messed with the files on the teachers too and removed Ramen's one before the role-model photo shoot (erm, HOW fit was Troels with his shirt out?)
I felt sorry for Morten when he got the boot but then loved it when he came back and made the snarky remark to Rie.

Another one for the list:

  1. Will Bengt get lonely in his polar pine sauna and ask Lund to come home? (technically I know she was never there in the first place)
zanz1bar · 05/03/2011 19:17

blackduck may I add no9

  1. Latvia, what did happen there and who went?

I am sure it's all linked to the Latvian trip.

Am feeling very apprehensive about the darkened hallway ...

Brilliant news in The Guardian about the second season of The Killing and the third season of Spiral too. Another BBC4 fan here. No doubt Murdoch will snap up the US remake but I don't care.

aloiseb · 05/03/2011 20:21

I think Bengt will meet Wallander and they can have a nice sulk together in his polar-pine sauna

aloiseb · 05/03/2011 20:23

sorry, being flippant now - must be influence of Ant and Dec

I hope they get on with looking at the list of missing girls tonight... I've got the theme music running through my head already! Roll on tomorrow:)

UpSinceCrapOClock · 05/03/2011 20:33

Bloody hell, I can't stop coming to this thread! I keep reading all the theories and am loving it - it's like watching it first time round again :o

All I'm saying is

Aloise not bad with the names - Rie is actually the nickname for Anne-Marie (Danish names ending in 'e' are generally pronounced like they end in 'a').

Libra · 05/03/2011 20:44

For those interested - living with Danish-DH-who-knows-who-did-it is much worse than simply restricting our conversation to 'please pass the butter'.

If I say this the wind-up merchant I am married to says 'Hmmm, interesting that you have mentioned the butter....'

UpSinceCrapOClock · 05/03/2011 20:55

Libra - you need to give him A Very Stern Look and say 'SÃ¥ er det nok' in your best Generally Reserved for Cheeky Toddlers 'End-of-Discussion' Voice.
