DD won’t use tampons

Some advice please. DD is 14 and has been coping OK with periods but is refusing to use tampons. This means the swimming she has always loved needs to stop as we can’t keep paying for lessons she’s not turning up to just because she won’t use them. I’ve tried talking to her but she is very defensive and shuts down and won’t discuss it so I don’t know what she doesn’t like or what she is struggling with. She finds it very hard to talk about it and I’m getting nowhere. I can’t help if I don’t know the problem. She loves her swimming but this is now such a stumbling block for her, I don’t know how to help. Any suggestions?

Could you just go swimming for fun instead and pay as you go

My DD is 18 and not interested in them either. I have friends who have never been successful with them. You can’t force anyone to use them.

I wouldn’t wear tampons as a teenager and do you know what... I never have! I’m in my late 30’s now and have never ever put one in. The thought of it grosses me out and makes me squimish.
I have always used pills to delay periods etc when on holidays.
Please don’t make her. My mum thought I was bonkers but I stood my ground. I absolutely hated the thought and still do

No! I'm sure there are plenty like you.

I started using tampons (Tampax with applicator), when I was 14.5, prior to that used pads. The first time I seized up and couldn't get it in but then I read the instructions properly, relaxed and it was fine. Carried on with tampons until I was not long past 30 and was part of a discussion with other women about such things. The general consensus was that internal sanitary protection is unhealthy because it keeps inside what should come out. I went home and thought about it and never used tampons again except on holiday when going swimming (& the very odd occasion when I went swimming locally).

It's up to the individual what they do. I cannot imagine 'period pants'; someone was on here the other day saying that a colleague used them, raved about them - and smelled terrible. I wouldn't like that and can't imagine a moon cup is any better than a tampon (apart from the environmental aspect). All in the past for me now though.
