Just paid a deposit for a very bright new piece on my forearm in April. Most excited.
Anyone else got anything booked?

Hi WeDontTalkAboutBruno, I'm booked in Saturday for my first tattoo. Bit nervous but also excited. Have thought about getting a tattoo for a long time and am finally doing it. Do you have many?

Pixie0437 · 11/01/2022 14:25

I've just taken the plunge and booked a lotus flower for my forearm for March. It's taken me 30 years to finally go ahead!

NowYouListenToMeFella · 11/01/2022 15:11

That's a long time to be thinking about it Pixie! Mine is going to be of the back of my two rescue cats. I got them both in the last year and they made lockdown on my own more tolerable. It's also a tribute to my friend who died and my granny. Both of them loved cats. Getting it on my ribs.

tricksyt · 11/01/2022 15:16

Me! I have 3 bookings made. Excited!

tricksyt · 11/01/2022 15:18

Make sure you have a nice big breakfast and take a lucozade or chocolate bar with you if it's your first tattoo.

Nothing worse than being hungry or lightheaded with low blood sugar when you're being tattooed.

Ooh excellent! Sounds like a lovely piece as well. Just remember before you go, good nights sleep the night before and a good breakfast. Take a drink with you as well to keep you going and don't forget to get some aftercare balm. Your tattooist will have a preference, if not be sponsored by one, many are!

I do have a lot, half a star wars sleeve as well as many other bits and pieces.

I'm amazed to have got in with the person doing it as they are very well known for certain tattoos and are definitely one of the best. I do have to travel for it though. It will be worth it!

Thanks for the tips on sleep, drinks and snacks. I shall make sure I'm well prepared.

I took about a thousand photos of the two lads to get what I wanted. The tattoo artist was spammed with cat photos. I have a fairly high pain threshold so wasn't going to bother taking a paracetamol or anything before. Am I being stupid?

I am already thinking about what I would like next!

tricksyt · 11/01/2022 15:51

I've had my cats tattooed on me!

If there's a particular expression you want the artist to capture definitely tell them that.

They're not keen on people taking painkillers because they can thin your blood and make you bleed more which makes you harder to tattoo. Painkillers don't really do much for tattoo pain anyway.

I've just had my first sleeve started in December, 2 full day sittings!!

I have a 3rd sitting scheduled for June (the artist operates a closed book with a 5-6 month wait) which may or may not be it finished.

Its based on my favourite books by my favourite author - can anyone guess from my username Grin

I desperately want a new one: one to commemorate my darling dog who died in May.
I have his paw print but want to turn it into something more exciting (as it were)

IncorrigibleTitmouse · 11/01/2022 16:51

I have a coverup booked, but I also want to get some more of my second half sleeve done. Two years of no tattoos is a first in 10 years for me!

WeDontTalkAboutBruno · 11/01/2022 16:55

We have a scottie dog and DD has a beautiful tattoo of Jock from Lady and The Tramp on her lower leg. She's now got a sausage dog herself and wants a matching one on the other leg with Daschie from Lady and The Tramp.

Echo what others have said, though my artists doesn't mind Ibuprofen but paracetamol based drugs are a no. If you have a high paint threshold you'll be fine anyway, personally I don't mind it at all. I've got my feet done as well which wasn't too bad and your tattooist will be happy for you to take a breather if you need it.

Me too, this covid lark hasn't been fun has it?

Thanks again for advice. I won't take anything and hope the high pain threshold will see me through.

I love hearing what other people have. Did everyone start thinking they'd just get the one and then keep going?

tricksyt · 11/01/2022 20:44

It's very addictive. I had 7 last year. 3 booked for this year so far.

It can be pretty painful, but not so bad that it puts you off. Otherwise we wouldn't keep doing it Grin

dementedma · 11/01/2022 20:53

I got my first last year at the age of 57. Just a wee one on the outside of my lower leg . The bit near the ankle bone hurt but I'm very pain sensitive due to fibromyalgia.

Awesome, well done! Get more! Grin

IncorrigibleTitmouse · 11/01/2022 22:52

@WeDontTalkAboutBruno Especially when you have pieces half finished! One of my go-to artists has left the business and DH has one that's just been lined out for over two years! I can’t wait to get back in the chair!

IncorrigibleTitmouse · 11/01/2022 22:54

@NowYouListenToMeFella I didn't get my first one till I was 23 or 24 but then I was hooked!

I never really expected to be what anyone would call 'heavily tattooed' but am now skidding rapidly towards 40 exactly that!

ChastainsMisery · 11/01/2022 22:55

This thread is lessening the nerves and increasing the excitement. Haven't really told anyone so no one really to discuss tattoos with.

I love sea swimming so may look for something marine for my next one. Will miss the swimming while I'm waiting for it to heal. It's been my favourite thing to do the last while.

I'll be playing catch up IncorrigibleTitmouse, I'm 42 at the end of the month.

IncorrigibleTitmouse · 11/01/2022 23:25

@NowYouListenToMeFella My next one is a humpback whale tail fluke! I love being in, on or looking at the sea and seeing two humpbacks in the wild last summer earned its place. One of the most extraordinary experiences of my life.

NowYouListenToMeFella · 12/01/2022 09:02

Wow incorrigible, that must have been some experience. Fair play dementedma, will you get anymore? Tricky and Bruno how do you come up with your ideas? I haven't a creative bone in my body, so would be no help to you Blue. Do you mind having to wait until June Chastain?
