Smoking to vaping?

Foxbox · 06/06/2018 11:33

Has anyone succeeded in swapping smoking for vaping?
I can't stand how addicted to cigarettes I am, I wake every morning in panic about my health.
I just can't seem to get myself to stop! In fact the more I think about it, the more I smoke!
I was thinking trying to switch to vaping might be an idea?
Has anyone managed this? Any tips?
Thank you

I think i need to invest in spare..... The only one i own is already dodgy as ive dropped it. Something is rattling inside my tank and it's now funny to charge. I have tons of vape shops on my doorstep though!

Jins · 24/10/2018 17:21

I’m about to splash some cash again. I chipped my favourite drip tip so emailed the manufacturer of the tank to see if I could buy one. They’ve got a store on AliExpress so I had a look around and a tank I was debating buying a while back is super cheap on there. Trouble is that it’s too big for most of my mods and while I’ve been thinking of getting a bigger one I can’t really afford the one I want.

This is where you end up. Sometimes I need to remind myself that I never thought about whether I could afford cigs or justify the expense. Blush

Foxbox · 24/10/2018 19:23

This is where you end up Grin

Yep!

Although also true that we’d never debate whether we could afford the fags...funny that.

Hope you’re doing ok @patsywineeyedwillie?

I’m just helping a friend IRL start vaping and have been looking for starter setups that will actually work.

If anyone is looking for a cheap spare kit this looks like an option.
myepack.co.uk/mods/innokin-smartbox-kit-blue.html

Just needs an 18650 battery which is around £6.

No complex setting options as it does it automatically. Myepack is a reliable seller and has been recommended on the long standing vaping threads.

I’m not sure about the tank. I’m not convinced that the same tank with so mouth to lung and direct lung vaping particularly well as the requirements are so different

Ollivander84 · 31/10/2018 12:40

The liquid bar is 90% off with code TLB90, mostly low nic options left

Chesneyhawkes1 · 31/10/2018 12:52

I'm on day 6 today of vaping and no smoking. I used to smoke 20 a day. I have given up before for 3 years but went back to smoking when I was having a shit time in my life.

I have no cravings when I vape and don't gain any weight either. Already feel so much better and running and exercise already feels easier. That may be all in my mind though.

I never phase out cigarettes when I decide to stop. Just set a date and only use the vape. Good luck!

Foxbox · 16/11/2018 14:30

I keep losing this thread!
I’ve been thinking about you @patsywineeyedwillie Hope you’re ok. Let us know how you’re doing if you’re around Smile

Great going @Chesneyhawkes1 hope all’s still going well 👍

I went out Saturday night and got tipsy so ended up smoking about 5 cigarettes. But since Sunday back to just vaping. Think I need to stay away from vodka until I've been off them longer 😂

Foxbox · 16/11/2018 14:54

Yes, I think having a drink is one of the hardest parts, such a strong association isn’t it.

Great going getting straight back on the vape on Sunday though! Well done Smile

Well my app tells me I’ve saved a shade under £5.5k

That’s a disgusting amount of money to burn and I’d been smoking nearly 3 decades.

In celebration I’ve just bought a really funky looking steampunk style mod - thanks to AliExpress it’s only the price of two packs

Ollivander84 · 20/11/2018 15:52

£9959 for me Shock

Jins · 20/11/2018 17:20

Wow. That’s a new car!

itbemay · 20/11/2018 17:23

smoked for 20 years, started vaping 2 months ago and loving it! the smell of cigarettes now makes me feel sick.. it can be done, i am so proud of myself!

Foxbox · 20/11/2018 17:34

Jins and Ollivander OMG! All that money!
My app tells me it’s £952 for me (just over 5 months of not smoking 30 rollies a day) although as previously discussed I seem to have spent a fair amount on vaping Blush

That said, Jins, ooh a steampunk style mod, that sounds fab Grin

itmaybe that’s brilliant! You should be so proud and I bet you’re feeling so much better. I reckon it’s the single most brilliant thing you can do for yourself. I’m proud of me too!

My DM started by switching to a cape and just allowing herself the occasional pack of cigs, each time she'd leave it longer between each pack of fags and soon enough she started to find that she thought she craved the cigs but then when she had them she didn't enjoy them at all... now she's not had a cig in about 18 months and that was after 40+ years of smoking 20 a day and she's started reducing her dependence on the vape also... not fully charging it so in the mornings she knows she has to use it sporadically or else the charge will run out before the end of the day seems to be working for her so far.

I'm doing the same now myself, I've been allowing myself for a couple of months a pack at weekends but the past month I've found the one pack will actually last much longer (I won't smoke any if I have some left come Monday morning) so one pack is actually stretching 2 weekends and even then it's more because I think I'm craving them and then actually not enjoying the taste once I've had a couple of drags.

I've also switched to menthol cigs so that when the ban comes into place, even if I'm smoke free by then (I really hope so) I won't be tempted back to smoking because the taste of a normal cig now is so disgusting to me that I'd rather not have one.

If I'm being honest though, the biggest motivation to keep me going has been how much less I've been spending... of course we know how expensive it is to smoke but when you actually feel the difference in the money then it can really spur you on to stick with it, especially when you're not having to go all or nothing, you've got the vape to help you through.

Good luck and I hope it works for you, but just think you've got nothing to lose so may as well give it a try... oh and make yourself get trough the first day or two as the initial getting used to it is where most people I know have given up, they say it makes them cough but I think it's because they're inhaling too much like a cig and it's different somehow.

Here you go Foxbox. Feast your eyes on that

They also do a smaller 85w which lights up.
m.aliexpress.com/item/32854635932.html

It was irresistible. £21 with a coupon and new buyer voucher. Should be here tomorrow or the day after as it left China on Friday

Foxbox · 20/11/2018 19:19

Summerisdone thank you for sharing your story, sounds like you’re doing great 👍 I think it’s so inspiring to smokers. Definitely what saw me through the hardest bit at the start- knowing it can be done. I love vaping now Grin

Jins Thank you. that is indeed a beautiful thing 😍 I’d be interested to hear what it’s like.. You’ll probably not be surprised to hear that I’m thinking about my next new bit of kit!

OP posts:
Jins · 22/11/2018 12:38

It’s here. My Teslacig steampunk Nano is here!

Sadly the batteries that were dispatched on Monday aren’t so I can’t use it yet as I’ve only used single 18650 mods up to now and don’t have a matching pair.

I didn’t get the kit on my link Foxbox, just the mod, so I’m not expecting to see much difference. I rarely vape above 45w when sub ohming so the far reaches of 120w will remain unexplored.

It’s solid and heavy with a proper on/off switch and I’m really pleased with how it fits my hand

Foxbox · 22/11/2018 19:03

Jins yay!! Smile

It’s solid and heavy with a proper on/off switch and I’m really pleased with how it fits my hand

Sounds good. I'm afraid I'm still ignorant when it comes to the rest of your description. A lot to learn! Grin

I'm pretty much just using the vaperesso cascade plus one now. Prefering the sub ohm (?) I'm going to look into what's best to get next-something easy to use but maybe with a better battery.

I've been a bit awol lately. Sorry. I'm still on the ol' vape train. I'm on 5 months and 10 days. And have zero cigs in that time. You are all doing so so well!

Sometimes I miss a little rollie. I haven't given in, though. I think it's the thought of smelling like my OH does afterwards. I don't want it in my hair etc. Also I'd feel like I'd failed my kids.

I'm still on the one pound liquid. Wish they did more flavours though.

OHs brother vapes (and smokes too??) and was making fun of my little switz2 and I was highly offended. I've become quite fond of my little rainbow vape. Grin

Jins · 26/11/2018 16:05

I don’t think it matters what kit you use as long as it works for you. My friend has been vaping for 5 years now with a really basic starter kit (and they were really basic back then. The sort you can buy in pound shops!). It didn’t work for me but it has certainly worked for her.

eliquid4aquid.co.uk/ has plenty of flavours. May be worth a try? rejuiced.com/ are good as well but all their liquid is higher VG so may not work as well in some kits.

Foxbox - The Eleaf Istick Pico 25 kit (www.<a class="break-all" href="https://amazon.co.uk/dp/B07122K8B5/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_8Jb.BbP52T7X0)?tag=mumsnet&ascsubtag=mnforum-substance-addiction--3270217-Smoking-to-vaping" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">amazon.co.uk/dp/B07122K8B5/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_8Jb.BbP52T7X0) is worth a look. It’s a really good mod - I still use mine daily - but I can’t speak for the ello tank as I’ve never used it. The previous melo 3 was pretty good but I don’t use anything that I have to buy coils for anymore.

Foxbox · 28/11/2018 15:31

Hi Luna! 👋

Good to hear from you and know you’re still doing well. I sometimes miss a rollie too, haven’t given in either. I know some people can have the odd fag but I don’t think I’d be able to! I’ve still got a pouch of baccy I bought in June that’s just had one rollie taken from it! I’m very proud of us all Smile

Thank you Jins I’ll definitely have a look Smile I love your recommendations 👍

OP posts:
LoonyLuna · 28/11/2018 16:04

Well done Fox! My OH took my last pouch of baccy. I think I could have a rollie and carry on vaping without too much trouble, I'd just feel like I'd failed! Wow. As I typed that, I have a massive urge to have one, which hasn't actually happened before Shock
I'm waiting on a delivery of liquid and am on the ones I wasn't too keen on so maybe that's why.
I've been wondering if there are festive flavours....

Well done not doing it Luna! Love the idea of festive flavours Grin
I’m still not very adventurous in that respect. I stick to two flavours that I like. I agree that having ones you’re not keen on adds to the risk of craving a fag!

Good to hear your story ajw88
I love to hear how smokers have managed to stay quit with vaping, and cutting out the nicotine is very impressive! I’m on 3ml with my sub ohm (which I use most of the time) and 12 with my pen style vape.
