Smoking to vaping?

Has anyone succeeded in swapping smoking for vaping?
I can't stand how addicted to cigarettes I am, I wake every morning in panic about my health.
I just can't seem to get myself to stop! In fact the more I think about it, the more I smoke!
I was thinking trying to switch to vaping might be an idea?
Has anyone managed this? Any tips?
Thank you

Wow re: Dad and FIL! More examples of there being no excuses for the likes of me! These stories are really helping.
I'm not stopping, I'm swapping. There'll still be a crutch..
FurryDogMother best of luck to you too. We can do this!

Noquont thank you 😊 And well done, that's brilliant.

I'm going to keep coming back and re-reading everyone's stories/ tips/encouragement here, it's helping me see things differently. Which is just what I need to get started on this.

Ive cut my smoking by over half using an ecig not even trying. It will be the thing that gets me to quit when i take that step of saying nope im done smoking. Im finding as it cools and i dont wanna be outside im using it heaps more lol
Saves heaps money
Im in aus so forgive the measurements and $$ but a 50ml bottle of liquid lasts me months, red bull flavour, the ecig i bought was $13 for 2 from fasttech, came with carry case and charger
Can get replacement tips/tanks for around $13 for 10.

Foxbox · 07/06/2018 00:20

Not even trying
I like the sound of that! Brilliant Squeekums, sounds like reducing towards the complete switch is going to come naturally for you 👍

I switched to vaping 10 months ago. I started with tobacco flavoured liquids as thought I could trick myself into thinking I was still smoking cigarettes but very quickly changed to menthol as hated the taste of tobacco in the end. It is different and isn't easy to begin with. You'll probably find you puff on the vape loads to begin with. I can honestly say I will never smoke again (& I've quit a few times in the past 20+ years) I don't crave cigarettes one tiny little bit now & love that I no longer smell or spend a fortune. You won't regret it I promise. Good luck & well done.

Noqont · 07/06/2018 00:22

Best of luck foxbox. Chuck out the fags and just go for it. High strength tobacco flavour e liquid. You can buy it in in little bottles in tescos for emergencies. In 18, 12 or 6 mg strength. Go for 18 to start with. Try not to mix and match the fags if you can. By the end of the week you'll be totally used to vaping instead. The other thing is that after a while I coughed a lot for about two months. This happens when you give up the fags and your lungs are bringing up all that filth from smoking. Just go with it, it clears in the end and you will feel a million times better.

Foxbox · 07/06/2018 00:27

Thank you Mildred, I love it that you can honestly say you'll never smoke again and don't crave cigarettes at all. I'll hold on to that, and acknowledge that it might not be easy to start off with. Like you and HaveaWeeNapsay, I'll probably vape an awful lot to begin with. Congratulations on finally cracking it. My plan is to follow suit...

Thank you Noqont I'll remember and use your tips. Your best wishes also help 😊
So it seems like most people made a straight switch rather than swapping gradually then?

Ollivander84 · 07/06/2018 00:35

I just went for it. Had a pack of cigs in my bag for 9 months after quitting!

Ollivander84 · 07/06/2018 00:36

Remembered some tips!
Keep your vape by you and cigs far away and hard to reach
Vape as constantly as you need to
Drink lots as your mouth can get dry
Inhale slowly, it can make you cough especially with quitting the cigs
I vaped in the same place I smoked
Use the highest nicotine level you need to

DashingRed · 07/06/2018 00:39

I quit 5 yrs ago and never looked back.

One word of advice - don't buy the crappy e cigs from your local shop. Go to a decent vape shop and invest in a good quality vape. The initial set up will probably cost £40-50 quid but it's well worth it.

The cheap ones you buy from the shop probably won't satisfy you and they taste awful. A good vape shop will let you sample lots of different liquids too.

whereiscaroline · 07/06/2018 00:49

Ive been off cigs for nearly 3 years thanks to the vape. Swapped gradually over a week. During the week, if I fancied a cigarette, I'd make myself vape first. Then if I still wanted a cigarette, I had one. Gave up on last day of holiday and it was great as flight was delayed and I could vape away in the airport to my heart's content. Usually I'd have been climbing the walls desperate for a fag.

Never looked back. Good luck, you've got this!

Foxbox · 07/06/2018 08:41

Those are really helpful tips. Thank you. I'm currently outside where I usually have my morning coffee and cigarette, vaping. Feels ok because I've told myself I can have a cigarette after if I really want one. It has made me cough, I'm practicing inhaling slowly. I'm going to keep reading your stories/tips and see how I go. I'm not going to try and stop cigarettes completely yet, I'm just going to go for the vape first. Hoping I'll also end up with a packet of cigs that has been in my bag for more months...
I'll go into the vape shop in town when I can, treat myself to the decent kit!
How many are you are now off the nicotine? Have you reduced/ stopped it or stayed on the same amount?

Keeptrudging · 07/06/2018 13:07

Well done! I'm on 6mg now, sometimes 3mg, but was 12mg initially. I find the lower nicotine tastes better now, but needed the higher one at the start.

Foxbox · 07/06/2018 18:46

Thank you, good to know the lower nicotine tastes better now Smile so far today I've had 4 1/2 cigs + lots of vaping! I'd usually have had at least 20 by now Smile

OP posts:
whereiscaroline · 07/06/2018 19:13

That's brilliant, well done!

I'm on 6mg, started off at 24mg when first quitting. Always thought I'd cut down to zero but never have.

If you're like me, I got to a point where I surprised myself by wanting a "nicotine hit" but realising I wanted the vape not a cigarette as the vape tasted better. Well done and good luck again.

Foxbox · 07/06/2018 22:42

Thank you. Not done as well as I'd hoped, 6 fags and soo much vape! But it's only day one and I did try and just carry on with the day. I guess I can't expect plain sailing from the start...and at least I've made a start. I wasn't anywhere near that before I read all your replies. Really do appreciate the support here. I'm hoping it will encourage others too. I'll keep at it!

OP posts:
HaveAWeeNap · 07/06/2018 23:17

6 fags is 14 fags NOT smoked and already a saving of approx £3.50?
I'd argue it's a win!
Aim tomorrow for 5 fagsSmile

HaveAWeeNap · 07/06/2018 23:19

Please remember that it isn't the nicotine itself that is so very harmful, it's all the other chemicals that are burning in the cigarette and into your lungs.
Research I've seen, and my doctor recommended vaping to me as being: not harmless, but, around a thousand times less harmful than smoking cigarettes.

Foxbox · 08/06/2018 00:03

Thank you. I needed that! 😊
Yes, I reckon it's about 24 not smoked today, gotta give me some life back hasn't it. Interesting your doctor said it's about 1000 X less harmful than fags. I've been reading all sorts of conflicting ideas about it, so I'll happily take that! Yes, I'll aim for 5 tomorrow 👍

OP posts:
Foxbox · 08/06/2018 00:04

And there's no way I'd have cut down this much in a day on any other method without completely climbing the walls...yes, on with it tomorrow!

Piesy · 08/06/2018 00:44

You will be so surprised at how easy it will become to stop all cigs with a vape. First few days are a bit weird but it truly works.

Foxbox · 08/06/2018 09:31

Thank you. I'll keep trying...

Wishing you luck Foxbox! I absolutely loved smoking for many years.

Gave up twice and stupidly went back to it. I posted on here, asking as you did, whether a very heavy smoker could change to vaping.

That was in March this year. I've not had a cigarette since! I am soooo proud of myself.

A tip - if you find a vape you like (the Endura/Innokin that pp mentioned is great I think with an 18 mg to start with) - make sure you get two so that when you are using one the other is charging. I nearly had a cigarette when I ran out of charge and was nowhere to charge it. Oh and another tip - I was charging mine in a USB plug thingy and apparently have ruined the battery!

You can do this honestly. It does feel a bit weird initially, but the advantages are immense! Keep posting on here if it helps.

YOU CAN DO THIS!!

grannycake · 08/06/2018 11:13

Ex 40 a day smoker here - have now vaped for over 4 years. Now down to lowest nicotine level. Have saved thousands. DH also stopped around the same time and he is on 0 nicotine. Neither of us has had a fag since
