Surely the sun will be out by the end of this thread?

esher, would these be any good for DD?

Really can't remember who it was who was contemplating the Hobbs clogs, but there is a 20% code in Easy Living mag this month, valid from tomorrow. Just type in LIVING at check out, or there is a voucher to cut out to use in store.

Went to RL shops again today, it was most vexing. The main purpose of my trip was to return teh things I panic-bought last week because I felt I wasn't making good use of my DC-free day out.

I did, though, see some lovely things in Kookai. Lots of Frenchy Breton style pieces, as you might expect, and drapey fine-kint gear which would be useful for trans-season, before we can pull out the maxis and glads

Speaking of which, tried these today. They are lovely, and will prob get them, but decided not today, as Dune is somewhere that seems to often have 20% off codes in Grazia etc.

Did buy 2 dresses in H&M. Both in silky fabric, one navy with a corally red bow print and a waist that needs a belt, other one is a smudgey mix of blues, a bit brush stokes, a bit digital print, has a bubble hem. At leats I think it does.

DH turns 40 next week, and I was going to treat myself to something swish for his birthday celebrations, but then thought I'd rather go cheap and cheerful, and save cash for better quality every day wear. See, am shoping wisely! Haven't tried either dress on yet though, so we shall see. Will wait until DH at work, DD at school, and do a fashion show for DS in the morn.

OllieWollieWoo · 03/03/2010 21:43

Sadly no LTEC - we don't fly Martinair (they go to lovley places like Aruba) - we limit ourselves to trips to France and ferry over to UK. Maybe one day....(OWW stares wistfully into the distance....). A good friend used to work in marketing for an airline and said it was terrible getting info!

MM - listen to Eshermummy - she sounds like a very wise MN!

Saw this dress online thats new in Coast - thought it was a good statement dress for those looking for maxi and/or navy & white stripe: here

JamInMyWellies · 03/03/2010 21:46

HI,

I have been lurking for a a couple of threads now.

Thankyou stylistic guru type people. Unfortunately my wallet will not accomodate most of the clothes I love on here but am enjoying my wish list shopping for when I win the lottery.

On the upside my wallet will allow the lovely swan slub tee from ASOS.

I will head back into lurking obscurity.

OllieWollieWoo · 03/03/2010 21:53

Views on this dress (via ebay) for future holiday to France (am thinking leisurely lunches on the Ile de Re followed by potter round the shops in St Martin!!!) Not sure if skirt is too full and would make hips look huge?
here

Stay with us Jam - we like all kind of shops/prices/opinions on this thread! (God that sounds like we are we becoming a cult but ykwim!!)

LetThemEatCake · 03/03/2010 21:55

oh MM you poor thing. I once had my eyebrows waxed a day or two before possibly the biggest, poshest wedding I am ever likely to be invited to and the girl ripped off most of the skin between my eyebrow and eye. I looked monstrous. First it swelled, then it seeped, then it scabbed. I am useless with makeup tips and tricks but am sure that a pencil will disguise it for now. I am sure I read something about stimulating eyebrow growth recently ... will look back through my last few mags.

esher I considered that purple slouchy tee - report back!!

The shoes that I considered last night have been miraculously reduced since then so poss worth a punt, although I know what PC means about the quality of the leather. I also fancy offing my red cork wedges and getting these red wedge espadrilles instead - wdyt?

LOL about the S&B dps and their alternate disdain for interest in this thread ... my dh is always asking if I've "talked about him" on MN recently.

So this is for you MrCake: 5 years married tomorrow. traditional gift - wood. So you'd better have bought me some shoes

PCPlumIsMyHomeboy · 03/03/2010 21:56

Dress is lovely OWW, although hard to tell shape/skirt with that appalling photo.

LetThemEatCake · 03/03/2010 21:58

yes stay with us Jam - I am wearing my swan tee right now!!

GeorginaWorsley · 03/03/2010 22:16

dexter73 · 03/03/2010 22:17

OWW - Ile de Re has been badly damaged in the storms over the weekend according to my French friend.

matildamum · 03/03/2010 22:24

Hi all

Like Jam I too have been shamefully lurking and not posting on this thread. Am normally too shy (silly as we are online and not in RL!) to post, but really enjoy reading. DH works abroad a lot so it makes for great evening entertainment.
Happy anniversary LTEC. It was our 5 year back in December. I went all out with the wooden theme and had a bespoke oak bench made for DH complete with intials engraved (think cool chunky modern, not park bench style). Do you do garden furniture on this thread?
Anyhow, guess what he got me.... wait for it.... a KETTLE. On the basis that we needed a new one.

Oh you're all so nice. Mind you losing your eyebrows is worse than not getting a job, really, poor you.

Who was going to an Italian wedding. When and where is it? I've been to gazillions of Italian weddings (ie of Italian people and in Italy) and would say: no hats, quite stuffy really ie dress with jacket, definitely serious make up and hair done by hair dresser that day. Heels. From about May it's generally boiling hot most places, but unless it's a heatwave everywhere cools down in the evening. Especially by the seaside.

If it's British people, then probably less fussy.

carciofi · 04/03/2010 08:24

Good morning! It's nice to see the sun again.

Matildamum, your post made me laugh!

OWW, that dress is lovely and would go well with LTEC's red espadrilles.

notyummy · 04/03/2010 08:27

Matilda - a KETTLE! I hope you had words..... Actually, it will be our 5th anniversary this year; but I think October may be a bit late in the year for buying clogs! On our anniversary DD will be exactly 4 years and 3 months old.....because she was conceived on our wedding night. We know this because of the fact that DH was away onthe run up to it. (As I had a copper coil fitted, she wasn't supposed to make an appearance at all, however when you find out that you have got pregnant on your wedding day, it feels like someone is trying to tell you something...!) We had to have an early scan because of the coil complication and they are very good at precise gestations early on. The lady said 'ooh yes, that looks like around 8 weeks and 3 or 4 days' - yep, the drunken wedding night frolics.

Unfortunately I moved and the hospital I later had dd at refused to accept my word on the dates that the first scan had given me. Because she was big they said the dates must be different and INSISTED on inducing her - 9 months to the day after we got married.

Alls well that ends well!

notyummy · 04/03/2010 08:28

Just slightly off topic there....

Back to shopping!

monkeysmama · 04/03/2010 08:50

Happy anniversary Cakeys - hope you have a lovely day.

What a nice story Notyummy. I smiled at your kettle too Matilda.

Reallygrumpy looks like you have a few people who can help with the Italian wedding outfit. Give us an idea of who is getting married & where and I'll have a look for some outfits.

Do any of you smoke? I used to smoke 40+ Gauloise (spg?) a day but gave up 3.5 years ago. I don't know why but I had a real craving for a cigarette last night - very odd as I was sat in front of the tv doing nothing .

I couldn't open most of the links for yesterday when I looked last night. Not sure why and will try again now.

Enjoy the sunshine.

blossoming · 04/03/2010 09:28

On our 5th anniversary, I asked for cash, on the basis that paper is made from wood, right?
I don't think I got it though.
I think we've given up now, maybe I'll make an effort this year, what's for 7 years?

Monkeysmama, I too used to smoke gazillions, all the time, and weighed almost nothing. I did have a few sneaky cigarettes before I was expecting dc3 when out with a mother's group - they can seriously put the pints away round here, and all are outside puffing. Terrible shapes on them mind..
Haven't restarted going, and quite afraid to, as I told dp he could take my jimmy choos to oxfam if he caught me smoking again!

OWW, I'm really not sure about that dress. What about some red patent flats with indigo jeans and a breton top? Ile de re is near Brittany isn't it?

Same with wedges. The do nothing for me apart from highlight my big clumpy feet. I have my fingers in my ears going la la la when they're mentioned here, same with maxi dresses, although I did like that Coast one.

My problem I think is I have an aunt (who I don't see any more as she divorced my uncle) who used to waft about in maxi skirts and dresses in the 70s when I was little. I just can't get over that image really.

Right, must prepare my class for tonight..

DolceeBanana · 04/03/2010 10:22

Hi girls... been manically busy so no time to look/post until today. My how it continues though!!! Still waiting for deliverance of 505 (due in this week!) but in meantime found that Nails Inc have similar for fraction of price! Bought some but haven't had chance to try it out yet!
Will keep you posted...

Much prefer espadrilles to clogs - just can't get my head around 'em.

at you looking anything like Judy (Richard and Judy) Tracey...! I am sure NOT. Please can you erase that thought...had an image of Eve Pollards daughter - can't remember her name...brain fog...ohh dontcha hate it when that happens...Funny how you have a mental image of someone isn't it!!!?

Having a nice relaxed day at home today - no nursery runs, no nothing! Yeeha!

Recent purchases - lovely duck egg checky spring/summer scarf and grey wool short sleeve cardi from Whitestuff; lovely quilted pink coat for baby !Awww...

Oh and new kitchen bin as DH accidentally broke last one !!!! How?!!! It was bloody expensive too - but I love it - Vipp design in cream (saddo!!!)
Must go, have a good day all!

DolceeBanana · 04/03/2010 10:29

Oh and v quickly - lol Tracey at your comments about mixing wash colours! You're probably unsurprised that I am the same view as you...My sorting goes, whites, light colours, bright colours, darks. My sil mixes everything and it all comes out a nasty washed out grey!

OllieWollieWoo · 04/03/2010 11:20

Will be back later but wanted to post this link from the DM talking about the Breton look - the other week it was nudes and now this - I like to think they are using this thread as inspiration for their features!
here

LetThemEatCake · 04/03/2010 11:38

ooh that trench with the stripe dress might be good for VB*??

OllieWollieWoo · 04/03/2010 11:53

Hi LTEC - Hapy Anniversary (but more importantly have any shoes been handed over yet????) Mt friends hubby got her a bonsai tree for their 5 year one! Quite clever if you think about it but not what she had in mind!!!

OllieWollieWoo · 04/03/2010 11:55

What is wrong with my spelling - flippin laptop seems to change my typing as I go along - its like it thinks it knows better???Grrrr!

DolceeBanana · 04/03/2010 12:07

Ollie
Loving the stripe dress and trench combo myself! Its gorgeous...models a bit strange...looks like she's got a rather nasty smell under her nose!

Love the Breton look...have worn breton stripe tops for years...kids have to wear it now...!! Poor mites...they work it well though, even baby! Like to try and tog DH up a la francaise , but e's 'avin' none of it!

Ooh Happy Anniverary LTEC ! 10 years isn't it? Go on, what did you get? And can you broadcast it!!!

Who knows DM might 'lurk' here too...I know Lisa Armstrong from 'Times has referred to Mumsnet in past...I like her writing...
