Am I the only woman left in Britain who doesn't buy thongs?

POLL: What shape pants do you prefer wearing?

  1. Granny style tents
  2. Boy style "shorts"
  3. Ordinary knickers
  4. Thongs
  5. None

Do you ever have moments when you realise that you are hopelessly out of touch with the rest of the culture? I went to buy some nice new knickers... I'm having trouble, everywhere has a huge thong selection, plus "boy-style shorts". But there's very little that's tasteful & feminine in an old-fashioned knicker shape! Am I the only non-pensioner woman who still doesn't wear thongs?

I love my thongs etc, I'm always in them, but they are all cotton

Just hate the time of the month when I have to wear my bridget jones knickers

Steppy1 · 25/05/2005 22:07

..Bridget Jones'es for me...hoping that DH will remove them like Hugh Grant does in the film !!!

shazz007 · 26/05/2005 10:38

Can't stand thongs. Glad normal waisted trousers seem to be coming back. Hate hipsters, especially when you have a few stretch marks after having kids.

magnolia1 · 26/05/2005 11:28

Thongs all the way for me Even at that time of the month.
Just keep extra clean and buy good cotton ones and they should not be uncomfortabe!!

mummyhill · 26/05/2005 16:10

Thongs and G strings great stuff the thiner the string the more comfy they are. Even better they sit low enough to be comfy when pregnant too and mothercare do some really nice matternity thongs. Thongs and G's are much more comfy than wearing big pants that slowly creep up as there is less material caught between your cheeks.

soyabean · 27/05/2005 14:23

I would rather have a vpl than a visible bum which seems to be what you get with thong plus linen trousers!

samjjblue · 27/05/2005 17:45

thongs are sooo comfy I cant bear to wear anything else - thong above trouser line is not a good look but can be avoided with care and it certainly beats big nick VPL

flamesparrow · 27/05/2005 17:48

Oooh I got lovely maternity thongs from M&S - they are still my most comfy, even bumpless.

Raro · 28/05/2005 20:53

3 - normal knickers for me thank you very much! Don't think I haven't tried thongs - I buy a pair (if there's enough material in there to call it a pair) about once in a year when I'm fooled into thinking - surely they must be comfy if everyone's wearing them, and besides - think how sexy I'll feel - but actually I don't feel sexy just wildly uncomfortable.

And what's all this about 'it's just because you're wearing the wrong size' - no way Jose - unless these people are wearing them four sizes too big and very baggy - and what's so sexy about that??? If you ask me if you've got a string up your butt it's going to be uncomfortable no matter what size it is!!!!

lisawithtwogirls · 29/05/2005 15:59

I recommend 5-pack M&S low rise g-strings in cotton or lycra. They never show above your trousers and they're so tiny at the back that you don't feel them. I've washed mine hundreds of time and the best thing is that they are so small that I can fit loads of them on one tiny bit of my drying rack. PS if we're going to get personal - since I got an IUD fitted about 6 months ago I don't even get periods so no time of the month issues for me (sorry if that's "too much information"!!)

Bunglie · 29/05/2005 17:22

Knickers for me...I hate something going up my bum! Give me big and baggy and ones you can tuck in your bra anytime!!!!

lou33 · 29/05/2005 17:24

Big knickers for me, usually white Sloggi maxi as they are just so comfy. Also, I wear a Tena Lady maxi most days so I need something substantial to hold the pad in snuggy.

OracleInaCoracle · 05/06/2009 16:37

i wear somewhere between shorts and knickers. get them from primark and they are v low slung without being tight on the hips or shorts, but end at top of thigh..

Castiel · 05/06/2009 16:40

What an old thread. I'm probably wearing the same pants from back then tbh. Well not the same pair, but you know. Must go shopping.

Tortington · 05/06/2009 16:42

me too lissie - lets call them shockers ot shickers or knorts or knickorts

sassy · 05/06/2009 16:44

How old is this thread?

LadyOfWaffle · 05/06/2009 16:45

1 & 3 - thongs if I have to (thin white linen etc.) but I find them unhygenic & gross TBH.

OracleInaCoracle · 05/06/2009 16:46

custy, loving the shockers

Sago · 06/06/2009 07:02

why can't someone make 100% cotton normal size knickers that don't give you VPL? All the ones I have found have only got a cotton gussett/guset/gusset (oh, YKWIM)and synthetic material makes me all itchy...
I think I saw some in a catalogue ages ago, but can't remember where. Any ideas?

Horton · 06/06/2009 19:39

I loathe thongs.

I like normal pants or boyleg shorts. Calvin Klein do nice shorts in pretty colours.
