Am I the only woman left in Britain who doesn't buy thongs?

POLL: What shape pants do you prefer wearing?

  1. Granny style tents
  2. Boy style "shorts"
  3. Ordinary knickers
  4. Thongs
  5. None

Do you ever have moments when you realise that you are hopelessly out of touch with the rest of the culture? I went to buy some nice new knickers... I'm having trouble, everywhere has a huge thong selection, plus "boy-style shorts". But there's very little that's tasteful & feminine in an old-fashioned knicker shape! Am I the only non-pensioner woman who still doesn't wear thongs?

I don't mind or care if other people wear thongs, I am just a bit shocked/overwhelmed by how many are sold... they wouldn't sell them if people didn't buy them so much.

There were some teeny-boppers (girls) fingering a load of them (piled high & selling cheap)in Primark today. The security guard came & told them off "People don't want to buy them after you've been touching them all!" he said. heeheehe,.... I could start a right rag rant about teenagers today, too.

God, I've never worn thongs, just think they're uncomfortable and um, pointless! I wear normal pants, me.

moondog · 22/05/2005 22:03

And to think that the 70s version of 'The Joy of Sex' had a 'make your own g string' section (as they weren't on sale then!)

The author's son had to take that bit out when he rtedited it for the 21st century (and how weird is that, reading a sex manual that your dad has written!)

snafu · 22/05/2005 22:08

Oh noooooo, md, you'd have to make it out of macrame!

Nice, comfortable ordinary knickers for me, thankyouverymuch. And sometimes boy shorts if they're pretty. No-one looks at my knickers these days anyhow, so I could wear armpit-warmers and it wouldn't matter. A good friend of mine owns one of those diamante thongs, but apparently she still has something resembling a sex life...

Am a sloggi shorts girl myself, they are lovely. Haven't worn a thong since an unfortunate day when I wore a pair with maternity trousers and the trousers kept falling down....DH loves thongs (on me not him) and goodness knows why, all those acres of cellulite & white arse, urrgh.

3 - I wear 'high legs' normally. Have a few thongs for 'special occasions' or if going out and the outfit needs it.

High legs for me too. Thongs look vile when they poke out over your jeans and also who wants cheese wire up their arse ffs???

Can I just point out to all you thong wearers, when you wear see-through stuff YOU CAN STILL SEE THE THONG! It looks horrible.

JoolsToo · 22/05/2005 23:23

CD - agree completely BUT I have worn thongs with trousers for 'dos' so no VPL and after about 5 minutes you don't really notice the cheese cutter effect not as uncomfortable as I thought they'd be. Not for everyday though!

CountessDracula · 22/05/2005 23:25

dos? When you are not using windows you wear a thong?

F**k me I have something in common with GDG, we both wear high legs...

bubblerock · 22/05/2005 23:26

I have loads of thongs but I've recently discovered the shorts - really pretty ones and love them, they are so flattering just showing a peek of buttock and DH loves them

JoolsToo · 22/05/2005 23:26

'

so do I

CountessDracula · 22/05/2005 23:27

I like Sloggi's but I do have a thong for under some trousers that warrant one - but only for going out and thats usually only a couple of hours max. My dh hates thongs and thinks there is nothing sexy about them. I also read once in a magazine that they are a breeding ground for germs and not to be recommended!!

(actually I bet she is wearing lovely disposable paper ones that come up to her chin at the mo, she has just popped has she not?!) Uwila, pls confirm on knicker front!

Gwenick · 22/05/2005 23:31

3 now

But when pregnant with DS2 rather than spending a fortune on 'maternity' knickers I went to Matalan and stocked up on packs of 'oversized' Granny knickers - they were SOOOOOO comfortable I was sort of tempted to keep wearing them after I'd had him.............but DH said no LMAO

bubblerock · 22/05/2005 23:32

IMO most underwear looks sexy if it matches whatever style it is, I always feeel sexier if my undies match

should add that I did buy a pack of thongs a few months back when I bought some trousers which made my knicker line stand out a little.............wore them once - and now just wear a long top if I've got those trousers on (hate going commando - feel 'undressed' )
