Am I the only woman left in Britain who doesn't buy thongs?

POLL: What shape pants do you prefer wearing?

  1. Granny style tents
  2. Boy style "shorts"
  3. Ordinary knickers
  4. Thongs
  5. None

Do you ever have moments when you realise that you are hopelessly out of touch with the rest of the culture? I went to buy some nice new knickers... I'm having trouble, everywhere has a huge thong selection, plus "boy-style shorts". But there's very little that's tasteful & feminine in an old-fashioned knicker shape! Am I the only non-pensioner woman who still doesn't wear thongs?

agree with kama that you cant feel thongs if you are wearing them properly.

I have thongs, boy shorts and knickers, mostly thongs though.

CountessDracula · 22/05/2005 23:56

you can get knicks to wear with trousers that don't give you four butt cheeks!

lou33 · 22/05/2005 23:59

i have to wear undies that make me feel good, granny pants don't have that effect on me.

Skribble · 23/05/2005 00:03

I wear thongs with trousers for work to avoid VPL, but prefer high leg high waisted knikers with jeans.

Struggleing to find hi-leg knickers last week I find they are higher on the waist and I prefer them to sit over my overhang any suggestion?

Found it hard over the last 5 yrs to get trouser that weren't hipsters. Normal height waist seem to be back in thank god.

goreousgirl · 23/05/2005 00:03

Still wearing my old grey maternity knickers (baby 1 year old)! Sooooo comfy. After watching Desparate Housewives, thinking thong might be worth a try ....but they do chafe your gusset - don't they?!

lou33 · 23/05/2005 00:06

mine don't. Not if you wear them properly

lou33 · 23/05/2005 00:06

gusset = horrible word !

Skribble · 23/05/2005 00:08

I was wearing the huge granny knickers that I got after my C-section for ages after, my freind caught sight of them and was shocked and promptly took me shopping.

It did feel good to chuck them and move on. Co-incided with going back to work and starting to get over PND. Not that thongs are a cure for PND , but I started to feel like a woman again and not just a mum.

goreousgirl · 23/05/2005 00:08

Not entirely sure we're spelling it right Lou...Is it gussett? Hmmmm

I think if you're a bit slimmer thongs are more comfy (ahem and I am not)

Might as well get a few people riled at midnight!

xx

CountessDracula · 23/05/2005 00:09

lou sorry but I don't need cheesewire up my arse to make me feel good!

lou33 · 23/05/2005 00:10

cd

i do have other undies you know!

goreousgirl · 23/05/2005 00:11

Good point skribble..

I don't think of myself as poor - but I do find undies SO expensive! I just have better things to spend my money on..Like prams - and dh never gets to see undies anyhow as I take them off before XXX!

So there! - and goodnight! Aye thank you!

GG

Skribble · 23/05/2005 00:12

So where can I find a pack of 5 black high leg (not thongs) that will last more than 5 washes.

lou33 · 23/05/2005 00:13

M&S?

wysiwyg · 24/05/2005 14:24

Used to wear thongs when younger and slimmer - but they aren't very comfortable TBH.

Really liked boyleg shorts - used to wear Sloggi ones, a few years back you couldn't get this style anywhere but now it's really popular.

However now post baby no 2 have discovered "support" panels.
Is there no hope?

Comfort wins over looks every time for me!

Lizzylou · 24/05/2005 14:34

Even tho I am no Baywatch Babe, I wear thongs, I find them so much more comfy and hipster thongs get rid of the problem of the tops showing over your trousers!

motherinferior · 24/05/2005 14:36

DD1 calls them 'fangs'

Janna · 24/05/2005 16:43

can't stand thongs. i'm forever pulling the bloody things out me arse

Flum · 24/05/2005 16:44

Sometimes they feel like 'fangs'

Flum · 24/05/2005 16:45

I like french knickers. orapple catchers for AF days

lou33 · 24/05/2005 16:46

maybe it depends on the shape of your crack , if it hurts or not

bundle · 24/05/2005 16:52

i say Pants to Thongs

TinyGang · 24/05/2005 17:08

Oooh no thongs thank you! That builders bum look is not for me - just draws attention to an area best veiled. Have you noticed it's also a popular place to have some sort of funny celtic looking tattoo. All very nice if you have something worth showing off maybe, but the ones I've had the pleasure of er, noticing were not a pretty sight.

Also intriguing are those 'thong' or 'string' panty liners I've seen for sale.WTF???

Kelly1978 · 24/05/2005 17:12

2 defo. Used to be thongs, but they've been relegated to the bedroom now 2 is trendy and there are loads everywhere. They are so comfy!
