Am I the only woman left in Britain who doesn't buy thongs?

POLL: What shape pants do you prefer wearing?

  1. Granny style tents
  2. Boy style "shorts"
  3. Ordinary knickers
  4. Thongs
  5. None

Do you ever have moments when you realise that you are hopelessly out of touch with the rest of the culture? I went to buy some nice new knickers... I'm having trouble, everywhere has a huge thong selection, plus "boy-style shorts". But there's very little that's tasteful & feminine in an old-fashioned knicker shape! Am I the only non-pensioner woman who still doesn't wear thongs?

I tried for a year and still found them impossible.

dottydaisy · 25/05/2005 16:09

I have big kinckers, thongs and am parshall to wearing nothing too, it just depends what I am wearing and what mood I am in. My DP doesn't really care as long as i am naked in bed!

trinityrocks · 25/05/2005 16:18

I wear thongs, big knickers on period days and sometimes nothing at all

happymerryberries · 25/05/2005 16:28

Sales of thongs have been falling

because

as the old line goes

'Thongs ain't what the used to be!'

JoolsToo · 25/05/2005 16:28

groan

Fio2 · 25/05/2005 16:34

I wear high legs and thats all, cannot stand anything else, it irritates my fanny

my cousin even went on about his 'wife' at his wedding saying she had a VPL when he met her and everyone laughed and I just thought you 'vain shallow b@st@rds'

BikerChick · 25/05/2005 16:40

Mixture of them all for me i guess! Did buy some maternity thongs from Asda, but I'll never know why!!

Do very much like the comment about Harvest Festival Pants - that's great, LOL

Kidstrack2 · 25/05/2005 16:56

I wear granny pants as my dp refers to them! But if on a rare night out I wear a thong. I could'nt wear them all the time as they iritate my nether regions!

happymerryberries · 25/05/2005 16:58

To harvest festival pants come in a pack with Shepard bras? You know the type, they round them up and point them in the right direction!

Harrizeb · 25/05/2005 17:04

Yep thongs for me, and wore them all through my PG as well cause pg undies are so un-sexy!!
Having said that didn't until about 6 years ago and I'll never forget an ex's expression when he fished a pair of lacy thongs out of my bedside draw only to be told they were my mums
Hx

Prefer ordinary knickers but dh prefers thongs (for me, not him!), so I have both in my knicker drawer and wear my comfy ones when I think dh won't notice . Having said that, I do tend to wear thongs with trousers as imo vpl is so ugly. Can't say I find them comfy tho' - the things we do to please our men!

emmamama · 25/05/2005 18:11

Edible knickers, especially chicken curry flavour.

NannyJo · 25/05/2005 18:36

used to hate thongs and felt like my arse was being cheese grated when i wore them for DH but now ive got used to them i couldn't wear anything else. time of the month is awful i feel like i'm wearing a nappy now if i can feel my knickers on my bum. bit crude sorry!

vickiyumyum · 25/05/2005 19:15

i think that you just kind of get used to wearing thongs, i find the ones with a bit of material 'inbetween' more comfortable, never wear the cheesewire ones!, but have got 2 drwawers full of knickers in all shapes and sizes, whatever takes my fancy in the morning, that of course is on the mornings when i have actually got my eyes open, most of the time its a surprise to myself when i put them on!

lou33 · 25/05/2005 19:29

i threw away my period pants, so just wear things etc as normal now.

lou33 · 25/05/2005 19:31

thongs not things

Whizzz · 25/05/2005 19:32

I don't own any thongs......maybe I should get some
PS: dots were me , not Lav for those that were around yesterday !

flamesparrow · 25/05/2005 19:32

Not read the whole thread, but I have a mixture of thongs, those sort of wide low cut square type ones (do you know what I mean... not loose enough to be classed as shorts), and I bought some just basic "pants" shaped ones from Topshop at the weekend and I LOVE THEM!!

They cover your bum nicely, but they are really low on the waist so go with hipsters etc.

Planning on going on a knicker spree next month to buy loads more pnats shaped ones.

brinkley · 25/05/2005 19:43

LOL @ harvest festival pants

heard another name for thong the other day - muddy rope yukkkkk

MistressMary · 25/05/2005 19:43

I don't buy thongs either.

lapsedrunner · 25/05/2005 19:58

No thongs, too uncomfortable. I'm am M&S "high leg" (think that is what they are called!)girl.

nooka · 25/05/2005 20:59

I only put on my thongs when I feel like seducing my dh . Otherwise high legs (no side seams) from M&S. I don't find that hey give me a VPL (maybe I don't wear the right sort of clothes!

For those who love thongs how do you were them to be comfy? I can't really go for more than 1/2hr before I start to feel sore (I'm a size 12).

Bozza · 25/05/2005 21:26

Mainly thongs with some ordinary bikinis thrown in. Find them comfy and boy shorts uncomfy.

mumfor1sttime · 25/05/2005 21:44

Hi all I see lots of people chatting due to the footie!!!I used to always wear thongs until I had ds, cant wear them so much now as they rub on my c section scar , now I tend to wear hi leg or big knickers! Keep meaning to buy some new ones!!

wordsmith · 25/05/2005 21:59

But what about Bridget Jones big pants? the ones that hold you in so much that they push you out everywhere else? I tried them a couple of times and as soon as I bent over everything sort of rolled down from the top over my baby belly so nothing was actually held in unless I was standing upright!

No, sorry, good old M&S bikini briefs for me.
