Aren't M&S clothes shite at the moment?

Going to a party tomorrow. I have something to wear, but ended up with a couple of hours spare and decided to go and shop for something new. Nearest place with easy parking is a big M&S.

My God, how dreary are their clothes?! Shitey McShite of Shitesville.

Who buys all that stuff?

I was so disappointed not to be able to spend any money. I went round twice, in disbelief, convinced I must have missed all the nice stuff.

oh i had a great time in ltd collection the other day

bluebump · 10/07/2009 18:01

Actually I bought a lovely dress from their Portfolio collection yesterday.

chevre · 10/07/2009 18:01

depends on the 'demographic'. i went to one yesterday on simples advice and the demographic of my nearest m&s is frumpy middleaged and gimmer. heading into town tomorrow to reach the dizzy heights of 'autograph', i.e. frumpy woman wants to pull off scrubing up for one day demographic.

chevre · 10/07/2009 18:03

'easy parking' = young children/old people demographic.

BecauseImWorthIt · 10/07/2009 18:03

Nope. We have Autograph and Limited Collection. All dreadful.

Good to see another M&S clothes bashing thread. Always a pelasure.

Per Una's weirdy animal print summer dresses are a shocker.

MrsMattie · 10/07/2009 18:05

pleasure

chevre · 10/07/2009 18:06

it is a given mrsmattie that per una is for the fashion dispossessed

BecauseImWorthIt · 10/07/2009 18:06

I didn't see any animal print dresses, just lots of the same style dress in hideous florals.

Not sure about the demographic chevre - I'm in SW19, so quite a varied catchment.

BecauseImWorthIt · 10/07/2009 18:19

Anyway - I want to see what you all bought to see what I missed out on. Links, please!

I got some great stuff - top and trews - from autograph.

not showing you though, as ALL the stuff looks atrocious on the website. not quite sure how they do that, actually.

anyway, if you're in SW19 you should be able to get up to Marble Arch without much bother - have a look there.

Simples · 10/07/2009 18:48

wat were you after.
I didnt buy anthing as have os many summer clothes after wet summers year on year

KingRolo · 10/07/2009 18:50

I love, love, love M&S bashing threads.

There are some unbelievably bad dresses in Per Una at the moment.

I have a theory that M&S designers hate women and want to make them look ugly and stupid.

Simples · 10/07/2009 18:51

idea what the fit is like on these but they had lots of them

EldonAve · 10/07/2009 18:53

I only shop online for M&S
Local store is granny central

BecauseImWorthIt · 10/07/2009 18:55

I'm liking those trousers, Simples, but don't recall seeing any of those. I had in mind some cropped trousers, and a nice floaty top that would be dressy enough for an evening party in the garden - and also as it's likely to be quite cool, nothing sleeveless.

KingRolo - I think the problem with M&S, and with Per Una in particular, is that although they were designed to appeal to young women, older women started to buy the stuff in their droves - i.e. M&S had discovered fashion! Then when M&S found this out in their market research they started designing clothes for older women - totally forgetting that older women don't want clothes designed for older women!

I think you've got it spot on there BIWI!

To be fair, some of the Autograph stuff is OK.

And I like Per Una bras.

The sandwiches are very tasty too.

MorrisZapp · 10/07/2009 19:10

I got a summer skirt in there, liked it so much I bought it in three colours! I would defy anybody to say it didn't come from Boden/ Fat Face.

Also, bought washed out flared jeans that actually fit me, ie I can wear them with flat shoes. Totally hot.

I wouldn't wear most of their stuff but I was delighted with my 'finds', so much cheaper then some other shops too.

EldonAve · 11/07/2009 12:49

I am about to order so does anyone care to point out any good stuff?

noddyholder · 11/07/2009 12:58

Limited collection is v good.i have those shorts and they are a lovely shape.Per una should all be put on a big bonfire it is dire. Why have one button when 10 will do?or no need for buttons on a jacket when you can have a bow or worse a big clip on rosette

MrsSeanBean · 11/07/2009 12:59

MorrisZap - any chance of a link to your skirt(s)?

Quattrocento · 11/07/2009 13:00

The title of your thread is three words too long.

Stilla · 11/07/2009 13:01

I like the per una bras but the clothes ......looks like they have left a box full of rags ,a sewing machine and some monkeys in a room and hoped for the best

noddyholder · 11/07/2009 13:03
