Aren't M&S clothes shite at the moment?

Going to a party tomorrow. I have something to wear, but ended up with a couple of hours spare and decided to go and shop for something new. Nearest place with easy parking is a big M&S.

My God, how dreary are their clothes?! Shitey McShite of Shitesville.

Who buys all that stuff?

I was so disappointed not to be able to spend any money. I went round twice, in disbelief, convinced I must have missed all the nice stuff.

No chambermaid look. I do envy you being able to wear navy. Never have been able to wear it. Neither can DD. I spent my schoolyears in navy, and poor DD is doing the same. Would it be frivolous to choose a school on the basis of its uniform colour?

Swedes · 11/07/2009 20:45

But it's so much easier to wear black as there's so much of it around. Esp shoes.

Swedes · 11/07/2009 20:46

Quattro - glad you don't look like a chambermaid.

Heated · 11/07/2009 20:53

Black is starting to look a bit severe on me too having been a big fan of the lbd. But worst colours for me are beige or anything pastel which rules out great swathes of M&S clothing. In fact that's what irritates me about M&S, not the style but their choice or either lurid or sludge colour palette.

janeite · 11/07/2009 20:55

So many of the colours in M&S tend towards the hideous pastel end of the scale - no good at all for me. And Limited Collection seems to be mostly inspired by vomit at the moment. A shame, as I usually really like the Ltd Collection stuff.

HerHonesty · 11/07/2009 21:00

yup i know what you mean. sometimes you walk in and its just bleurgh. so wishywashy and quite weird textures. and lots of stuff my mother in law would wear.

janeite · 11/07/2009 21:03

sack of vomit anyone?

Quattrocento · 11/07/2009 21:11

Oh my but that's hideous.

Swedes · 11/07/2009 21:31

Ewwww. That really is hideous.

Simples · 12/07/2009 09:48

i love navy

Simples · 12/07/2009 09:55

i must admiot havign my colours done ( against my better judgemnt) was so so liberating.
I now know that icy acid green suits !

noddyholder · 12/07/2009 10:11

Navy good on old cronies and a deep olive green can look nice.i have red hair but look terrible in brown although shop assistants can't help throwing it at me

janeite · 12/07/2009 10:20

Navy still smacks of school uniform to me - and it doesn't suit me. A shame, as I really like midnight blue.

pointydog · 12/07/2009 10:26

I don't like navy and it doesn't like me. I bought a pair of nearly n avy linen trousers recently because they didn't have any other colour and no matter what I do, I can't help ending up looking nautical.

janeite · 12/07/2009 10:28

Pointy - maybe the stripey shirt and the large fish don't help?

pointydog · 12/07/2009 10:32

My fish aren't that large, thank you.

pointydog · 12/07/2009 10:33

Although I do have a navy and whoite stripy top that I love and so I look like a proper sailor.

Simples · 12/07/2009 10:56

I find black trousers hard to match,
My fave colour trews are the pale grey summer ones

I've had my colours done too by a Colour Me Beautiful woman. I am a clear winter and look absolutely shitty in anything autumnal or pastel. I was told I could wear black - but that was then. Navy and taupe were my key colours, together with strong colours like turquoise, jade and fuschia. It was £100 well spent actually. And I've been wondering lately if I should have them done again as it was about 13 years ago.

Quattrocento · 12/07/2009 18:07

Okay okay I give in. Where do you get your colours done then?

LilyAllensThirdNipple · 12/07/2009 18:09

Yes it is really good. in a sale you go whiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiizz along the rails.
i had mine done by a terifying but efficent woman in S Hampshire.

LilyAllensThirdNipple · 12/07/2009 18:09

although i was not thrilled to be a muted summer, i can really tell now when i am not wearing a good shade. It makes me look OLd

mrsmaidamess · 12/07/2009 18:10

But isn't it totally subjective, i.e, in the eye of the 'expert' doing the reading what suits you? or does your skin COME ALIVE like Trinny and Susannah used to say.

Swedes · 12/07/2009 18:15

Mrsmaidamess - It really is true that your skin enlivens with the right colour and dies with the wrong colour. It is terrifying how obvious it is.
