Aren't M&S clothes shite at the moment?

Going to a party tomorrow. I have something to wear, but ended up with a couple of hours spare and decided to go and shop for something new. Nearest place with easy parking is a big M&S.

My God, how dreary are their clothes?! Shitey McShite of Shitesville.

Who buys all that stuff?

I was so disappointed not to be able to spend any money. I went round twice, in disbelief, convinced I must have missed all the nice stuff.

Swedes, that blouse is lovely.

Quattrocento · 11/07/2009 17:25

Ah Hobbs. Loverly. I think you could wear that boating pinstripe with either black skirt or black trousers - hence very versatile, no?

Simples · 11/07/2009 17:27

swedey get a striped blazer at Zara for £39 then when the urge passes you are not outof pocket

Replace the belt with a metre of grosgrain ribbon from V V Roleaux

Swedes · 11/07/2009 17:34

Quattro - boating pinstripe is navy and ivory. Would look rubbish with black skirt or black trousers I think.

Simples · 11/07/2009 17:34

ALSO while youa re all there
their jewellery is fanastic
i have the bracelet version of this

this isn silver and blue
have my eye on these

Quattrocento · 11/07/2009 17:37

Ah, thanks Swedes.

Quattrocento · 11/07/2009 17:43

That jewellery's a bit too jangly and dangly for me. Would look nice on hippyish earth mother types with creamy skin and their chakras in tune though.

Swedes · 11/07/2009 17:48

I don't look v nice in solid black any more. I used to look all shiny brunette lovely in solid black but now I look all drained and horrible. Is anyone else the same? Or have you not yet reached that age?

Simples · 11/07/2009 17:49

ah i am very plain clothes
but like a jangle or two.

MuffinToptheMule · 11/07/2009 17:49

I have to say in this last week M&S have been absolutely fantastic. I needed clothes to wear to my graduation and a suit for job interviews. I got everything I needed and they had extremely helpful and polite staff.

Simples · 11/07/2009 17:50

yes i only wear black in pm wiht lots of slap. NEVER int eh day near my face,

after all i am a " muted summer"

Simples · 11/07/2009 17:53

sorry burning oven chip stopped me putting

DarrellRivers · 11/07/2009 19:19

So true re the black thing
I used to wear black all day every day and also looked fab, pale skin, shiny black hair
Now looks less good
Now I love much richer tones on me, plums, dark green, reds, blues, greys etc
I am secretly tempted to get my colours done
Oh gosh, it is another sign of getting older as well as liking the scent of rose

jemart · 11/07/2009 19:43

Okay this thread has me worried for my street cred as large sections of my wardrobe are occupied by stuff from Per Una

Is it really so awful?
Where do the stylish people shop?

EldonAve · 11/07/2009 19:46

here is the what's naff thread

noddyholder · 11/07/2009 19:49

I can only do black now with a good tan and hardly any make up.With make up looks harsh and without tan I look drained.

jemart · 11/07/2009 19:52

Oh no! I am officially naff....sob....

Quattrocento · 11/07/2009 20:02

I think I can still do black.

Swedes · 11/07/2009 20:21

Quattro - you probably can. This crept up on me quite suddenly about the time I noticed my beard turned 40.

Quattrocento · 11/07/2009 20:23

I am 42. I can't stay on this thread now, because I have to go and try on one of my black worky suits and check a mirror very carefully.

janeite · 11/07/2009 20:26

I think I'm still okay in black - hope so, anyway, as 95% of my wardrobe is black or grey.

What I can't do is white and I really wish I could.

Swedes · 11/07/2009 20:30

Quattro - RE the black thing. One day at around 40ish I looked in the mirrow and saw foxy working woman and the next time I looked in the mirror I saw put-upon chambermaid.

Swedes · 11/07/2009 20:34

I can do grey. And taupe and navy are lovely for me.
