too many women seem to have boobs pointing south, or four of them.

then LOOK AT YOUR REAR VIEW

have you a fat back rippling out from underneath it?
if so please get a bigger bra.

ithankyou

No BoF - the my chemical romance guy is infinitely better than me

Mintyy · 24/03/2009 19:15

BarStoolCobra - you are Endi aren't you?

Nontoxic · 24/03/2009 19:42

Erm sorry don't know what happened there.
(Struggles with conscience; do I go back to other thread and replicate caring, hopefully helpfu but long post or stay on the happy boobies thread?)

BalloonSlayer · 24/03/2009 19:47

Re cupsizes, if it helps, the cupsize letters reduce as the band size goes up, and vice versa.

Err... not putting that very well.

I used to wear a 34D. I was measured and told that was a leetle bit big - I might be better in a 32E. The cup size was one bigger because the band size was smaller. If the 34D was a tad small, I'd go up to a 36C, using the same principle.

Also you should buy a bra taht fits well on the loosest setting, as they tend to stretch with age and you can move on to the tighter settings later.

My 32Es make me feel like I am in a straight jacket. So much for measuring experts. But they cost me an arm and a leg so am stuck with them.

I found some pre-pregnancy bras in the drawer recently. I goggled. And gasped. And laughed. How did I ever fit into them? How had I ever worried about having small boobs? Why the fuck did I bother to keep them?

AnyFucker · 24/03/2009 19:47

do both, nt

especially if you have crap boobies like me, I am feeling outnumbered

morningpaper · 24/03/2009 19:50

don't worry anyfucker mine are also rubbish

basically I stuff a pair of socks down there and hope for the best

AnyFucker · 24/03/2009 19:51

might try that

must remember not to use DH's socks though

piratecat · 24/03/2009 19:52

it might help if women understood how bra sizes work, and i say this in every thread about boobies, but here goes.

if you go up in the back, you come down in the cup. and vice versa. I remember when i was told this at Rigby and peller where I and i was FLOORED!!!!

so

if you are wearing, say a 36c from (shudder) m + S, and you think hmm, it is too big round my chest, but ok with my boob. You would try a 34 (inch) and to compensate you would go 'up' one size in the cup to a 'd'.

Also, start your bra on the first hook Loosest), then as it stretches over time you can tighten it.

PLEASE do not add inches, like 5 or so so your under bust measurement. It doesn't work. In the old days , yes thats' how you would do it. Becuase there were not the variety of sizes. If you measure 35 under your breast you are a 36, stick with this then start on the cup sizes.

36 c is the equivalent to 34d, so if you tried on a 36 and thought hmm it's still a bit loose, go down to the 34 but UP in the cup.

LauriefairycakeeatsCupid · 24/03/2009 19:54

Pencil test

I can hide an entire Cath Kidston square pencil case A5 sized under my tits

piratecat · 24/03/2009 19:54

where i used to work,

am happy as larry to help with any questions, as i am a total bra obsessive.

georgimama · 24/03/2009 20:04

Well the up in the number/down in the cup principle is exactly what I said. 40A not 36C. Up 2 chest sizes, down 2 cup sizes.

I measure a 34C by the M&S method and they fit.

And as for Rigby & Peller, sorry but it's all brilliant PR and nothing more. My SIL's sister wore rigby & Peller underwear when she was SIL's bridesmaid, as did their mother, and they both looked like a bag of spuds tied in the middle.

DSM · 24/03/2009 20:23

georgimama

A 40AA?!!

I may not be an expert on bra sizing, but I know I am not a 40AA. I am a size 10 with pretty decent sized norks, that fix snugly into a C cup at the moment.

I think you've done it wrong..

I can post a picture of them if you want, as I am 100% sure they are not a 40AA!!

theDreadPiratePerArdua · 24/03/2009 20:37

40AA? Isn't that Dave the Hairy Handed Trucker's measurements?

georgimama · 24/03/2009 20:40

Maybe you aren't actually 35 inches around the rib cage then. Get a tape measure and do it again!

Or post a picture, we all seem to be in the mood to look at each other's boobs...

DSM · 24/03/2009 20:48

I just did it again.

35 inches underneath. 38 across the nips.

PinkTulips · 24/03/2009 20:53

she's probably 35 around the ribs but with decent boobs there's no way in hell her cup measurment is 38

but we hate her anyway because whatever size they are they're perky

cyteen · 24/03/2009 20:57

I will come back and read the rest of this thread but just wanted to say: never mind the rubbish bras, why do women leave labels on the bottom of their shoes? WHY? Do you do it? Have you ever done it? I'm one of the laziest, scruffiest people I know and still I manage to peel the fucking things off

georgimama · 24/03/2009 20:58

Did I mention that I am a 34C? Did I mention that?

WRT labels on shoes, I agree they must be removed but why the fuck are they put there in the first place? And they're never easy peel are they?

DSM · 24/03/2009 20:59

Honestly, they are 38 across the front! I promise! I am going to put up a picture. I am.

DSM · 24/03/2009 21:02

I have put a picture up of them from the front, and one side view.

Please look quickly, so I can remove them

They cannot be a 40AA, right?

piratecat · 24/03/2009 21:02

dcm you are likely to be a 36 d, or c then, not a 40.

as for Rigby and Peller, they don't often get it that wrong!!!!

TrillianAstra · 24/03/2009 21:02

By BitOfFun on Tue 24-Mar-09 18:38:37
Well, it's not an exact science, but basically measure round the ribcage in inches, then the fullest point of the bust. One inch more, gives an A, two a B etc. Double letters are half sizes.

< disclaimer > You still need to try on though, and different styles will suit some people more than others.

DSM that makes you a 35 C, which sadly doesn't exist, so 34 or 36. The adding 4 or 5 inches thing is apparently not true. Or not true anymore. Or something. Go read the thread, someone explained it. Or tried to.

piratecat · 24/03/2009 21:04

dsm, sorry got name wrong, can't look at your pics maty not be 'active' iyswim

DSM · 24/03/2009 21:04

Its on now

georgimama · 24/03/2009 21:07

No I'll admit that doesn't look like an A cup, but I am confused by the apparent failure of the +4/5 method as it has always worked for me.

Trillian, I tried advocating that method, and was roundly mocked.
