Am I the only one who hates animal print?

They’re everywhere. Maybe it’s because I’m a child of the 80s but I just can’t rid myself of Bet Lynch’s image. Am I the only one?

@Stormyrose You could read my posts properly! Many leopard print designs are currently very evidently from notable Italian houses. I listed Prada, Gucci, Valentino and D&G. That’s obviously not the same as saying all Italians wear leopard print! Obviously. It’s an observation that high end fashion houses are not thinking leopard prints are naff. Many seem to be Italian and fair enough. They sell worldwide. You can add in FENDI, Roberto Cavalli and Max Mara.

Some French fashion houses too are using leopard prints, such as Givenchy and YSL. It’s clearly popular this year as brown clothes are fashionable right now and this paint complements that or black.

I’ve worn it and loved it but jeez it’s a tired old trend now

It’s really just a neutral at this point.

Why do people keep going on about the Italians. My family is Italian. I work with lots of Italians, the views are the same, it’s divisive. People are acting like Italians are all running around in leapord print, they really are not.

Leopard print, black, cream, and brown.

BeardySchnauzer · 23/09/2026 10:01

Just because the fashion houses like it doesn’t mean I have to!

WherestheTrombolese · 23/09/2026 10:36

I love it. It makes me smile.

Some very defensive posts on this thread. A strongly held and expressed subjective opinion is still only a subjective opinion.

I quite like this https://rixolondon.com/products/moss-blouse-leopard?variant=41658736279597&tw_source=google&tw_adid=&tw_campaign=21060203963&tw_kwdid=&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=21053454915&gbraid=0AAAAADh6VNZp_0k0aM5K8qzjUg3NugtUb&gclid=Cj0KCQjwzsjVBhC3ARIsALnMv4kv1RgZ-_3cpVLvV197qXNygJcjqCso96QHK9B0ktiVoKFT7dYa5LwaAvuwEALw_wcB
and I think it works because everything else pulls in the other direction from the leopard print- simple hair and make up, jeans, model is slim and young-looking. I don't think it would work on me because I'm 50 and curvy, so would pull the blouse back into brassy (or more brassy than I would like). Like most things, the styling and context makes a big difference.

FWIW, I think D&G are actually doing exactly the same thing that Bet Lynch is doing with leopard print, and I mean that entirely positively- it's a play on a sort of 1950s presentation of powerful female sexuality- for D&G the flip side of their floral dresses which evoke the same period. Being too much (and the sort of thing some people might find tacky) is part of the point. It's not for me but then my style icon is Ursula Brangwen so that's not really surprising.

A woman wears the "Moss - Leopard Brown" silk blouse with blouson sleeves and matching scarf, blue jeans with a decorative belt, large hoop earrings, layered necklaces, and holds a black bag against a plain light background.

Moss - Leopard Brown

RIXOs Moss blouse looks better than ever in leopard-print silk with a V-neckline, ties, and blouson sleeves. This style is exclusive to us.

I’m a confident extrovert, although not loud, but tend to more elegant, streamlined clothes. Do you mean maybe the cat slater, bet lunch type character?

No because animal print can also be a glam designer thing as PPs have said. Maybe that plays into it though. And also I think it’s the animal connotations - classic animal print is a big cat print, it’s making a statement about being a bit wild, there’s a bold sexuality vibe as someone mentioned. It’s just very not me.

I actually do love a lot of other animal markings that are generally not used as prints. Whale sharks and ocellated rays have beautiful patterns. I’d wear them!

Peridot1 · 23/09/2026 11:19

I think it’s fine to say you don’t like leopard print or spots or stripes or ditzy patterns or whatever. We all like different things. But some posters are coming across as quite nasty and insulting. We get it. You don’t like it. You think those of us who do are lacking in taste. There are ways to say you don’t like it and move on. No need for the nastiness.

BeardySchnauzer · 23/09/2026 11:34

Given the title of the thread it’s easily avoided if you do love animal prints though

AlwaysExtraHot · 23/09/2026 11:37

Yes.
And I won't hear a word against Bet Lynch.

Megifer · 23/09/2026 11:52

I love it and look f'ing fabulous in it 😃

MidnightMeltdown · 23/09/2026 12:00

I don’t like it on me, but I’ve seen some people who it suits.

darkdaysareover · 23/09/2026 12:15

MyManinCaracas · 22/09/2026 12:21

It’s not a neutral, no matter what anyone says. A Breton stripe is more of a neutral.

Suburban middle aged mum neutral yes, which is why I’d never be caught wearing a Breton stripe. Love a bit of Animal print though.

I can’t stand it and have never owned any (50s).

MeetMeOnTheCorner · 23/09/2026 12:47

@AsCoolAsKimDeal You obviously haven’t looked at any designs this winter then. It’s very much on trend from the fashion houses I’ve mentioned.

Oh I agree!

BeardySchnauzer · 23/09/2026 15:01

whats Wrong with suburban middle aged mums? Are they more frowned upon than people who wear animal prints?

my mum is from a country renowned for being chic and finds the British obsession of ‘being in fashion’ very odd

Apparently so. All these posters are too cool to be middle aged mums.

exhaustedandoverit · 23/09/2026 19:29

I love it and wear it regularly, not in an all over outfit but I wouldn’t wear any print all over. Saying that I do have a leopard dress which I wear with black tights and boots. I have a big fluffy cow print cardigan which I adore when it’s not quite coat weather.
I don’t think it’s tacky and I’m not an extrovert. I just don’t like to wear plain clothes all of the time and rarely wear bright colours 🤷‍♀️

I have looked. Yawn.

MeetMeOnTheCorner · 26/09/2026 20:47

@AsCoolAsKimDeal I never see seasonal fashion as a yawn. Style is not always about fashion but the couture houses drive high street fashion which ordinary people then buy. It’s better to be informed if you are going to comment.

allymccoist · 27/09/2026 12:15

wondering how the pearl clutches on this thread would react to some of my leopard print furniture

Gettingbysomehow · 27/09/2026 12:39

You don't have to like it. I think burgundy is vile. Other people love burgundy.
Live and let live.
