Am I the only one who hates animal print?

They’re everywhere. Maybe it’s because I’m a child of the 80s but I just can’t rid myself of Bet Lynch’s image. Am I the only one?

I really like Leopard print . Do you not know it is considered a neutral by some of the fashion writers etc SmileSmile??
I don’t wear it all the time , would only wear 1 piece at a time . I do have trainers , a dress , trousers , several coats . I don’t really have many other prints and I don’t like snakeskin at all .

I think it can look a bit OTT if head to toe , but also consider it can look quite stylish if subtle . I must admit I didn’t wear it all when it was on trend a few years ago , as it was everywhere . I remember being in a small shop with a relative ( who was wearing leopard print jeans ) and there were also 2 others in similar outfits .

Each to their own , wear what you want and what gives you joy / you feel comfortable in . I do like pattern generally and I do feel a bit boring when I wear more classic / neutral clothes .

You go girl, I bet you look the bomb.

Yep, I really do 😃 also been known to commit the crime of mixing animal prints and somehow carry it off 🔥

Here are some ideas! Scarves are a good start. And shoes.

That giraffe scarf is very much wolf print fleece territory to me. Awful.

MeetMeOnTheCorner · 28/09/2026 16:25

@Runningupthecurtains A giraffe is a wolf in your world? There’s no accounting for weirdness. It’s Etro and one of the other scarves is Hermes.

Agree! Just because it’s designer doesn’t mean it’s not naff imo!

or are we not allowed opinions if the fashion world disagree with them?

No not a giraffe is a wolf that's not what I said I said that print gives me the same vibes. A slightly crap looking giraffe with surrounding foliage is naff (to me) just like a print of a howling wolf with mountains in the background is naff.

You love a leopard print, I don't that's - fine but you aren't going to change my mind with that scarf. It might be high end designer but it looks 90s Leather Lane market knock off.

Ha ha love that while I was writing a follow-up post that uses naff as a description of the scarf you used the very same term.

Absolutely wolf fleece territory 🤣

MeetMeOnTheCorner · 28/09/2026 17:01

@Runningupthecurtains I love some leopard prints but not all leopard prints are the same. I’m quite happy to have leopards on a Hermes scarf. I’m less keen on a long coat but they have their place too. I don’t see the Wolf connection. You might as well cite any animal. “Jungle” print Hermes scarves are sought after and are glorious.

BeardySchnauzer · 28/09/2026 17:08

Given you are supposedly au fait with fashion I am surprised you are unaware of the wolf fleece trend tbh!!

I know you are trying to convince us animal print haters but I’m not going to be convinced!!

Wolf print fleeces are recognised short hand for naff. The giraffe scarf you posted is naff. That's the connection. I would expect to see them next to each other on a market stall.

A hermes silk scarf is obviously different to the bubble gum, fushia and turquoise leopard print top I passed someone wearing earlier but if I was choosing a Hermes scarf I wouldn't choose one with leopard print on it because in my head the pink and turquoise print will always be in the back of my mind.

Are you just being obtuse for effect, or did you genuinely think that was what was meant by 'That giraffe scarf is very much wolf print fleece territory to me.'?
I was reading another thread where someone talks about the literacy crisis. I very much see what they meant.

MeetMeOnTheCorner · 28/09/2026 18:55

I’ve no idea what you mean. I don’t buy wolf print trash! Or fleeces. Do you? It’s like comparing Hermes and Shein. Pointless.

I'm not talking about who buys what clothes.
My point was, the other poster said, 'That giraffe scarf is very much wolf print fleece territory to me.', and you profess to think that what they meant was that a* *giraffe is the same as a wolf.
What she clearly meant was that the scarf reminds her of wolf print fleeces (the word 'territory' is key there).
Well, most of us found it clear; I'm asking if you failed to understand, or if you're pretending not to understand in order to provoke.

Gosh. What a snob. Which is interesting given the pearl clutching at any suggestion others may not like animal print

TheAirbender · 28/09/2026 19:03

not alone. I don’t think I have ever, ever worn it. I especially hate the wide leg leopard print jeans everyone is wearing atm.

EleanorMc67 · 28/09/2026 20:29

I like it but - it depends on the print, the fabric - & who's wearing it! I do have an H&M leopard-print fake-fur oversized retro-looking coat that I really love - the fake fur is convincingly good & much better than the majority of fake furs (which I generally don't like much).

Love all these ones, especially Elle Fanning (I think?) in her little beret. Echoing Brigitte in hers many decades previously ...

@BeardySchnauzer Fashiin is about taste though isn’t it. Since when is a wolf fleece anything other than a joke? It’s not fashion or even style is it? I’ll take a Gucci scarf in leopard print any day of the week and I’m rather pleased I’m a fashion snob. It’s made my day because I do know a fashion icon when I see one.

Alright Bet🤣

your defence of animal print has been heroic but you haven’t changed my view!

Has to be actual animal. Different times.

Awful stereotyping, classism and internalised misogyny on this thread.

It has swerved a little bit that way on this thread, hasn't it?

One poster (who no doubt is a lovely person) is sure that a Breton stripe is "more of a neutral" than a leopard print. I mean, a "Breton stripe" is neutral? 😀 Perhaps an Aran ("style") jumper is more of a neutral. The Boden / White Stuff crowd are definitely going to be a tough sell on animal prints...

My grandmother adored Coronation Street and then in the 1980s my mother became a huge fan of Eastenders!

To me, the clothes of Bet Lynch and Pat Butcher conveyed strength, power, bravery.

I have to agree. And honestly, I'd rather buy a cheap, naff wolf fleece than something horrendously expensive that's very much of the same ilk (at least the wolf fleece would be cosy around the house on a winter morning)!
