Am I the only one who hates animal print?

They’re everywhere. Maybe it’s because I’m a child of the 80s but I just can’t rid myself of Bet Lynch’s image. Am I the only one?

The other person it makes me think of is Scary Spice

thinking about it - I think that people who wear in your face animal print are trying to signal that they have a big personality or ‘I’m crazy me’. But accept that’s probably 90’s leopard print

obviously these days there’s a greater variety of animal print so it’s not always in your face which I guess is where the ‘neutral’ description comes from

The Queen was obviously tacky too 😀

Cripes, can you imagine a royal wearing that today?

LaurieFairyCake · 22/09/2026 08:15

Also hate it for me, some women look great in it. I look like I should be down the docks charging for a blow job.

Lentilcakes · 22/09/2026 08:18

I don’t like it either. I also think it’s tacky - prob the Bet Lynch effect (am in my 50s).

Good old Teva walking sandals get recommended year on year though! They are criminal

They were amazing for travelling in my 20s - needed walking sandals, not walking boots. Wouldn’t think of them as fashion!

MeetMeOnTheCorner · 22/09/2026 09:17

I love my leopard print blouse. Looks great with a navy jacket and jeans. My DD has a leopard print coat and it’s amazing. It just depends what it is and how you wear it. The coat is fantastic with a black cashmere roll neck and black trousers. I think DDs is a Rixo one but D&G, Valentino, Prada, Gucci and Alaia all make them. So - yes, they are fashionable and obviously Italian women don’t watch Corrie.

Branster · 22/09/2026 11:21

Surely the Queen’s coat was real animal fur.
And the Queen Mother’s too.
Different times when it was acceptable to wear fur.
The only place you can reasonably be wearing fur is somewhere like those places in Eurasia where people hunt for animals to feed the family in the middle of nowhere and live in a yurt and move with the seasons.

Stormyrose · 22/09/2026 11:37

I also dislike it, I’ve genuinly never ever seen someone in it and thought that looks good, it always looks tacky, especially as there is so much cheap stuff made of it. I find it really odd when people pretend it’s a neutral. It’s far far from a neutral and a statement in its own right.

the worst is the leapord print trainers, Christ. Or the coloured leapord print. Grey or pink.

would be different if it was a case of I thought that’s nice but wouldn’t suit me, but I just think it looks terrible on everyone, like cold shoulder tops.

RancidRuby · 22/09/2026 11:53

I’m partial to a bit of leopard print but mainly limit it to accessories like shoes or bags.

MyManinCaracas · 22/09/2026 12:21

It’s not a neutral, no matter what anyone says. A Breton stripe is more of a neutral.

CeffylCoch · 22/09/2026 12:44

I hate it too

Politika · 22/09/2026 13:10

Yep, hate it - and I HATE it on children. So tacky

allymccoist · 22/09/2026 13:47

I just find some of the arbitrary judgement on this thread absolutely mindboggling. Aesthetics after all is subjective and comes down to taste. It’s not about right and wrong. Some people like it and some don’t.

having said that, the bet lynch reference is just so outdated and it beggars belief that this is what people think of when they think of leopard print compared to the modern way it is worn now. I have attached some screen shots to illustrate the contrast!

We are all allowed our own tastes aren’t we? I can’t say your images of modern leopard print are any more appealing than Bet’s

i took the tone of the thread to be more ‘this seems very popular but I don’t like it - am I alone’ and not a personal attack on those who do like it

CortieTat · 22/09/2026 14:13

I like it in small quantities. I have a scarf with a bit (1/3 I would say, the scarf is Jaguar Quetzal) of animal print (there’s a jaguar on it as the name implies) and I love it. I would not wear a whole animal print garment but I think it can look good as a part of an outfit if styled the right way.

gerispringer · 22/09/2026 14:20

Its a no from me. I hated the fashion for skulls on everything too

PolkaDotPorridge · 22/09/2026 14:22

I have always loathed it. In any print, any colour. Nasty.

I see this a lot on here, the whole extreme sensitivity if others don’t like something you do, like it’s a personal insult. It’s not. We are all allowed to like and dislike different things,

I don’t like animal prints in clothing, it looks cheap and tacky to me, often because the items often are cheap and low quality and the print exaggerates that. And that’s ok for me to think it, I’m sure I wear stuff others dislike, and that’s ok too.

Agreed. It does look cheap and tacky to me too. It’s not a personal thing against the wearer but it is especially hideous on children.

I think it’s ok to not like things but words like “mummy” etc are frowned upon so why not “tacky”?

You want to argue English laungage? I don’t frown on mummy, but I’d assume it’s as one is gender stereotypical and the other is not gender specific,

Twoshoesnewshoes · 21/09/2026 19:01

I think it’s tacky, really tacky

Me too.

MrsBeltane · 22/09/2026 14:56

It's not for me, bit tackled!

CarrotJuiceandTurmeric · 22/09/2026 15:00

I think it's fine to call something tacky (on here, I mean- not unprompted to the wearer's face). It's completely different to sexist and ageist terms like mummy/mumsy or frumpy.

bingobangs · 22/09/2026 15:04

@StormyroseBut why is animal print seen as tacky?
