Am I the only one who hates animal print?

They’re everywhere. Maybe it’s because I’m a child of the 80s but I just can’t rid myself of Bet Lynch’s image. Am I the only one?

I hate it. Obviously it doesn’t look like the real thing but it reminds me of people milling animals and wearing their furs.
I also think it doesn’t objectively look good but it’s clear that many people disagree!

Canonlythinkofthisone · 21/09/2026 20:40

Awww this thread makes me sad.
I loved animal print in my teens, my 20s 30s and now my 40s 😭😭🤣🤣

Luckily I'm menopausal so I don't care if I look trashy. Just picked up a gorgeous leopard print cashmere sweater and I am counting down the days until it's cool enough to wear it 🤣

CuriousKangaroo · 21/09/2026 20:41

I love an animal print. But not all animal prints are created equal. There is definitely a type of leopard print that looks very Bet Lynch and I wouldn’t go anywhere near it. I think it’s to do with the size of the print itself.

Branster · 21/09/2026 20:41

No idea who Beth Lynch is.
I don’t like animal prints either. And I don’t understand the appeal and how popular they have been for such a long time. I particularly dislike them when they are in other colours like pink.
What I really, really, really hate is the use of real snake skin on handbags. A cruel, completely unnecessary practice and the finished products don’t even look nice.

pictoosh · 21/09/2026 20:41

It can be styled well but usually isn't. It's better on a punk than from Primark.
I never wear it myself. Most animal print clothing items are cheap looking.

Annoyedbyhusband · 21/09/2026 20:41

I don’t mind a little here and there. Like a pocket lining, a scrunchie, a panel on a cardigan. I think it can be quite nice in small amounts with the right pairing.

sleepwouldbenice · 21/09/2026 20:43

Hate it OP
Although at one stage it was everywhere, less so now
I especially hate it on onesies
Why oh why?

NotSureICanDoIt · 21/09/2026 20:48

Another one who hates it and never has/never will wear it.

I have loads of leopard print. More of an alternative / goth style though so MN S&B collective pearls would be clutched with my wardrobe no doubt. I'm not dusty enough to know who Bet Lynch is but Pat Butcher is an icon so I'm happy to take the trashy, tacky label. I've seen some of the stuff people think is stylish on here and I'll be nice and say it's not for me lol.

Mostly brown shapeless trousers and similar baggy sacks are suggested.

Aggieforme · 21/09/2026 20:59

Never liked animal print.

FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee · 21/09/2026 21:00

Tacky AF.

Fiddlesticks1 · 21/09/2026 21:01

I’m with you.

Wonderbug81 · 21/09/2026 21:01

Same and yes, I still think 'Bet Lynch'.

user1469207397 · 21/09/2026 21:01

No, I can’t stand it - it makes my skin crawl!

Agree on the snake skin

ExquisiteSocialSkills · 21/09/2026 21:04

I like it on the animals!

pulpJarvis · 21/09/2026 21:07

I like it on other people….it looks dreadful on me. Like a low rent French prostitute.

InQuiresandplaceswheretheysing · 21/09/2026 20:25

Leopard print looks so trashy.

you are aware it is considered a modern neutral ?
i can’t stand what I would class as ‘mumsy’ brands like seasalt or fatface, Kipling bags etc.
we are all entitled to our stereotypes, I love leopard print

allymccoist · 21/09/2026 21:13

I think most people on here need to read the style book “Leopard is a neutral” by the wonderful Erica Davies

allymccoist · 21/09/2026 21:14

Haha @bittertwisted crossed post!

Foolish1984 · 21/09/2026 21:14

Same! Cannot stand it despite being an animal lover!

Patagonia21 · 21/09/2026 21:14

Groups of women out together, all wearing animal print can look quite comical. It’s certainly not become the new neutral.

SwedishEdith · 21/09/2026 21:20

I just don't suit it. Seems to be really unflattering on me. I get that it's been around so long it is a neutral but it's too patterned to suit my complexion.

Ok but it is considered a neutral by people in the know about style and fashion.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 21/09/2026 21:35

I love a bit of leopard print myself. Not too much though!
