Do these trousers look ridiculous on me?

Picture pending, but reasonably voluminous balloon legged trousers on short woman.

please be honest but not mean.

For context - 45yrs, 5’3”, slightly ‘alt’ leaning style but far from full on alternative/goth/emo.

don’t say ‘if you like them that’s all that matters’ or similar because I can’t decide if I like them, and that is why I’m posting.

Terrible. Sorry

Pinkissmart · 13/09/2026 17:01

I think they just need styling. They are a fashion choice, not a timeless piece. Why shouldn’t you have fun with your wardrobe? I think you can totally carry them off with different shoes, hair up and the right jewellery

itspubnight · 13/09/2026 17:17

They don’t look ridiculous on you, but they are hideous trousers

I don't like them at all. Not just on you, but on anybody. Nothing about them is nice. The style is a bit...homeless-ey, and the tartan pattern makes them look like clown trousers. There are so much nicer trousers on the market, nobody needs to be wearing these :D

mulberrymilk · 13/09/2026 21:55

There is something of the travelling juggler in them.

RowsOfFlowers · 13/09/2026 21:59

Oh gawd they are bad

ClaredeBear · 13/09/2026 22:09

It’s the top. You’ve got edgy bottoms and a mismatched top. Try a boxy white shirt.

pixie1345 · 13/09/2026 22:16

Your figure can pull these off, although taste is personal preference

Thesafetygeneral · 13/09/2026 22:20

I’m sorry but they’re awful. They look like comedy Russian dancing trousers.

dudsville · 13/09/2026 22:37

@catteabook , I actuality think they suit the bill of grunge alt perfectly. It's always a good idea to return things you don't instantly love, but if it was the case that you loved them but lacked confidence to wear them then that's different. I wear clothing that's a little more visible or noticeable, and that made me uncomfortable at first. I loved the items so much though so I had to develop the confidence to step out of the house in things that I knew would be noticeable and not everyone's taste. So, you're trousers, the thing I don't like about then is the elasticated ankle cuffs, but they look good in he model, so maybe they are too long for you or the size is too big, but full marks for alt grunge!

Wisterical · 13/09/2026 23:12

If they were made of wool/wool blend or just even cotton then they could look good. Being mostly polyester they look cheap and nasty, though the style could be cool. I do think these particular ones are too long for you though.

SevenYellowHammers · 13/09/2026 23:15

You can pull them off. Your boots are good too.

Yes, a boxy white shirt will fix it!

Business up top, midget from Balkan acrobatic dancing troupe down bottom.

They look like they're sagging at the bottom. If you're not sure about them then I think you have your answer there. Think it would be hard for them to flatter anyone as the cut is all wrong.

FreddysFingers · Yesterday 05:29

I like them! They suit you OP, and you've balanced out the voluminosity with a fitted top, which looks good 😊

lol, well I meant to say t shirt. Something tells me that won’t sway you either!

Actually, not a look again I think they’re the wrong shoes. Would trainers or sandals help?

pastadish · Yesterday 09:32

They look ok but the boots are wrong.
I think these types of trousers look fine with a sandal or flat trainer. I have parachute trousers (although not just as flared as yours) and I wear them with sambas I would not wear them with boots unless I wanted to look like a grungy artist or activist.
And pull your top up a bit or tuck it in
