Do these trousers look ridiculous on me?

Picture pending, but reasonably voluminous balloon legged trousers on short woman.

please be honest but not mean.

For context - 45yrs, 5’3”, slightly ‘alt’ leaning style but far from full on alternative/goth/emo.

don’t say ‘if you like them that’s all that matters’ or similar because I can’t decide if I like them, and that is why I’m posting.

Grungy look is fine - they're so baggy they look like a skirt (almost). You look fine in them whereas I would look like Coco the clown. Anyway, wear what you like and don't give two hoots, confidence is the best outfit of all.

Probably look better on somebody taller

Just push them down a bit and wear them with a glittery bra top and gold chain around your waist. Then wiggle your hips and make graceful gestures with your arms. But then I always think this when I see these harem style trousers.

My youngest wears barrel & cocoon style jeans, way more flattering than these. Combined with the right style tops they create an alternative fashion style

Your proportions are wrong. With balloon/barrel you need to tuck in or wear a very short shirt ending at the waist.

We all like different things eh? I really do not like these Monsoon ones. Too animal printy and brown for me, I prefer the more traditional punk chequer style if going for that look.

The fact so many posters think they're not "flattering" is a definite plus.

I like them / wouldn’t think twice if I saw you wearing them. Many of my alt/hippy friends wear very similar outfits and look just like you do.

I think they look good on you and are fine for relaxed chilling kind of trousers. School run etc. I'm not a huge fan of large amounts of grey or very big prints though so I'm also not entirely convinced. If I saw you in these I'd probably be a bit jealous as you look cool and arty and comfortable. I am very boring in my dress sense tbf.

I like them a lot, but I also am 5’4” and have a pair of balloon harem pants, but in bright green silk. It’s interesting and not the bog standard next fare. If I saw someone around wearing that outfit I would think it’s someone interested in style and clothes and I would check out the rest of your outfit. I wear mine with vest or sleeveless tops too, also chunky fugly sandals for summer transition. Great pockets in mine and a ton of comfort 🙌

TBH in a brighter colour they in the circus. Way too much material and flappy, show your figure of and be proud. Not hiding behind yards of material.

They're not my look, but I don't think they look ridiculous. I do agree that they need a shorter top and boots that are higher topped or more of a presence, anyway. I think (as a fellow 5'3"er) they're a bit too much fabric and a bit too long, something with a more defined silhouette up to your ankle would be good.

No, they aren’t the same sort of trousers. At all. You’ve linked to barrel shaped chinos. OP is asking about balloon harem pants. Entirely different proposition.

I think you look brilliant and if I saw you out, I'd probably ask where they're from! I love this style, because they're very comfortable and airy. I like the new trend of youngsters dressing for comfort- oldies like me have a lot to learn from them!

No, but it’s not you, it’s them.

I really love them, they look great on you, and you've actually inspired me to look for something similar.
However, they are nothing massively different from my usual look.
The main discomfort for you might be if you've never worn anything like it before, so friends etc might see them as different and comment.

I never thought of that style as unappealing, and am quite surprised so many people don't rate them. You look great!

I like them but maybe a different shoe choice! The boots are making it a bit more grungey and maybe throwing you off.
I’d maybe go for Tabi’s (marmite shoe lol) or ballet flats with buckles? Potentially loafers (platform would be good)?

I find with trousers like this, it works well if you create some more structure in the top.

You're right, it's horses for courses. But as someone the same height as the OP I wouldn't wear something so voluminous and would look for a pant that is slightly less balloon-like to avoid being completely drowned in fabric.
