Do these trousers look ridiculous on me?

Picture pending, but reasonably voluminous balloon legged trousers on short woman.

please be honest but not mean.

For context - 45yrs, 5’3”, slightly ‘alt’ leaning style but far from full on alternative/goth/emo.

don’t say ‘if you like them that’s all that matters’ or similar because I can’t decide if I like them, and that is why I’m posting.

I don't like gray but the style looks fine.

People who advocate a slim Jean and the need for things to look neat and flattering always bring Miranda’s mum to my mind 😂

I think they’re going to really divide people - lots of the people saying they’re hideous would probably never set foot in the type of shops that sell them like Lucy and Yak, Asos, shops aimed at a more alternative / younger look (for want of a better word). I like them, I would wear them with a boxier t shirt rather than something tight fitting and I’d probably pair them with some platform doc martens or chunky trainers. I’m 45 and a size 18 and these are the kind of things I like to wear. Others would probably think I look awful 😂

They're not my style but they definitely don't look ridiculous on you. I probably wouldn't give you a second look if I saw you in the street.

On the other hand the Disturbia ones someone posted upthread aren't nice at all (which is only my opinion, and I think goes to show we all have different tastes and that's absolutely fine!)

i think it only really matters what the wearer thinks (or anyone whose opinion they appreciate).
But as you asked, i think they look clown like.
Having said that i have a very similar pair....

They are not flattering.

I like a balloon leg and over the summer I wore 2 pairs from Oysho on repeat.

But these ones do not look good. I think they’re too voluminous and the pattern is nasty.

To me they’re ugly, but then a lot of (to me) ugly trousers are evidently fashionable now. The other day a young woman at the bus stop was wearing brown cord barrel leg crops, which to me were the ugliest I’ve seen so far, but each to her own…

I was going to suggest that they might be popular with shoplifters. You could stuff a lot of baby milk, cheese and batteries in those bad boys.

I think they’re fine, something different for sure. I’m just not keen on whatever shoes you have on with them, I don’t think they look right.

Try with top tucked in, then I think they’ll look good

I really like them on you, but then I loathe the word “flattering” with a fiery passion. It smacks of needing to look a certain way in someone else’s opinion to even dare to exist 😒.

However, if you don’t really love them, they will just sit there reproaching you until you take them to the charity shop, so in that case you may as well return them and buy something you’re going to wear.

Sorry, OP, I don't think they do you any favours. I am the same height as you and size 6-8 and have these from Monsoon which I wear with DMs and either a tight white top or with a gig t-shirt

My opinion on the trousers is irrelevant. If you have to ask on here, they're not for you.

I really like them and wear similar. i love the extra volume of material, it’s what makes them different. Your boots need to be chunkier and laces showing all the way up to the top. The top needs to be edgier. Still fitted, but something more modern/with a little bit of drape. Grey rather than black. I have a good one from forgotten tribes, long sleeved and in a dark grey fine knit that I find versatile to wear with this style of trouser.

that’s just my views and all very individual so go with your instincts and what feels comfortable and makes you feel good! What it looks like to other people is not really relevant in my book!

Not terrible, but they don't flatter you, look frumpy, and the grey check is dreary. I'm sure you can find better baloony pants.

I don't think they're awful on you, but I wouldn't wear with the vest like that. It needs a shorter, boxier top (I know that goes against all the 'rules' we were taught) or at least the vest tucked right in

They look like they should on you. Which is in my opinion not a good look. I’d say they look sort of grungy cheap and not very stylish. However I’d not double take looking at you or anything.

I see 'flattering' in clothing cut as just being what suits your body shape, and makes it look well-proportioned and balanced. It's a bit like one's colour season - it's handy to know these things, but not at all necessary to follow them!
