Are these shoes fashionable again?

Ballerinas are supposedly in again. I have these shoes from around 2010-2013, are they wearable again? I have them in a few colours, I used to find them very comfortable. I know I can wear what I want but I want to be vaguely fashionable. Are they fashionable again or can you clearly see that they are 15 year old shoes?

If you like them and they're comfy I say wear them!

Plenty of "in fashion" stuff is, imo, ridiculous (socks and sliders for example). I just ignore it and wear what I like.

Does anyone really notice or care what shoes another person is wearing?!

Hmmmm - all the people on this board, all the way through to the entire fashion industry??!! And the OP too since she asked the question!

That's not to say I approve or disapprove of the whims of fashion, but if the answer to every question here was "ignore fashion, wear what you like", then there wouldn't be much point in having a S&B board?

Marellain · 04/09/2026 12:24

Op, they are interesting shoes. If they are comfortable, I’d wear them. But it does depend on your personal style. If you have a bit of chutzpah about your style, then I think they are good shoes. À vintage bag, a big scarf, good lippie.. yes, wear them.

EleanorMc67 · 04/09/2026 12:32

@StylishAndBeautiful Pointed ones can actually be very comfortable - it's all in the design! I say that as I hunted down a pair of Air & Grace Anais flats, although they're more almond-toed.

But I would love the plain black Aeyde ones for everyday, & the Aquazurra bow heel ones (love a bow! Though not the little ones at the front of classic ballet flats, funnily) for evening.

Pointed toe versions channel my inner Rosa Klebb ... 😈

@EleanorMc67 , I'm not a scalloped edge person.
The previous ones were pointier.

I am a bit puzzled by the 'heels are so old fashioned'. I thought they were back,

@Whynottryagain , yes and socks with sliders aren't ridiculous.

I agree. I don't like them personally (they're a bit too Theresa May before she upped her shoe budget).

But treating them as "the wrong shoe" & wearing them with, say, barrel jeans & a cropped jacket - & another slightly ironic throwback with a silk scarf - could look ok.

Ha ha that's so interesting Eleanor ...

I had Repetto shoes back in the 90s (similar to a pointe ballet show but for outdoors) and they drove me mad slipping off the back of my heel, totally impractical, would have even less patience for them now!

They look like they are sitting the same on Brigitte, but I guess it was better than trotting around getting your heel stuck (and ruined) in the cobblestones - and she is young here too!

Very young & gorgeous! I knew she had popularised them originally - but it wasn't until recently, in an article written after her death, that I discovered she'd essentially invented them as streetwear. She also popularised another dance staple - the wide hairband - around the same time. (Shame about her racist utterances in later years ...)

I only have a few pairs, as I'm sandals in summer & trainers & boots in autumn/winter. My favourite pair is probably deeply unfashionable now, but I love scallop details on clothing & I found a pair of Chloe ones on Vinted a couple of years ago. Comfy, go with everything & cost £60 ...!

Oh wow, I love these. I remember when they came out and I really wanted some but I couldn’t justify the cost! Well done!

Abra1t · 04/09/2026 13:34

I prefer them to the fashionable flat Mary Janes, which are so twee unless you're either a young girl or a very old lady.

Honestly, they appear quite often on Vinted now - have a look! I consider them classic not dated!

I have never bought secondhand shoes. I have a fairly ridiculous shoe collection so need to think carefully. But I will definitely take a look!

And do they come up small or large or true to size? I have always been a size 4 but recently size 4 shoes have been too big for me, especially if they don’t have straps. I don’t know if my feet have strangely shrunk or shoes have got bigger…

I'm the opposite - I think my feet have got slightly bigger! But yes I think they're fairly true-to-size - they're European sizing so you're recommended to go up a size if in doubt, I think. You could try them on if you're near a stockist ... I think they still sell the same or similar?

Yes I am often in central London so could take a look. Thanks!

Oooh look!! A wee bit scuffed but nothing a bit of TLC wouldn't sort ... & from a charity shop so they're a total bargain!

I think it's time to pull the chain once you start wearing flat shoes.

Catch a grip

Bargarran · 04/09/2026 15:58

I dunno about being back in fashion, but they should be illegal. Horrible things....😂

Not on Mumsnet but yes, lots of heels about. I was just noting to myself that net-a-porter and mytheresa are awash in knee boots with heels this September.

I honestly can't see anything much there at all that hasn't already been around for the last few years? Lots of lovely boots though! But I'll pass on knee-high cream ones ... the mucky splatters after five minutes in the rain!

(I do think it must be very tedious being a fashion journalist & having to reinvent what's essentially the same old creaky wheel every year ...)

I'm flicking through my elderly mothers Hotter catalogue and even their ballet flats are nicer than the ones you've linked op, sorry.

Seriously, though they are actually quite cute these hotter ones.

Hotter have some remarkably nice stuff, given that their target audience is the Chums crowd.

I like their tall boots.

Because it's "Style and Beauty" and personal style isn't something that changes every year. If you look great in palazzos and ridiculous in skinnies, that's not going to change just because skinnies become trendy one year.

What will change over time is your ability to find clothes that you like and work on your body, which is where having a discussion board becomes relevant. This summer, I got loads of palazzos. Last summer, not so much. Next summer, who knows? and I might be asking "anyone know where I can get trousers that look like a long a-line skirt?"

Desperately unflattering to whoever is wearing them and.make women walk like penguins.

If any shoe type makes women walk unnaturally, it's heels.

Oh I know that - I was just commenting as part of the mentions in this thread about knee-high boots being back in - when they're never entirely disappeared for me!

And I thought the article might have had a few of the usual outrageous/uncomfortable/unwearable offerings, but they're actually pretty much all wearable styles boots - of which I have several!
