I'm currently looking at my wardrobe and what I might want to update it for autumn.

I'm mid50s, 5'7" and size 14.

I'm currently looking at these:

Boots

Jacket

And carrot shape jeans.

What have you got your eye on?

The most gorgeous brown waisted corduroy dress has arrived BNWT from Vinted and I am in love with it. It's going to be great for casual weekends and less formal office days. A fiver! So pleased with it. I also got a great charcoal pleated skirt in a smaller size, also BNWT on vinted. This was a real workhorse in my wardrobe last winter so I am really pleased to have found it in a smaller size.

Planning to do another wardrobe audit tomorrow and spot any gaps and also get my knee high boots out and waterproof them and check for any repairs that are needed. This will obviously herald the arrival of heatwave number 38 or whatever we're on...🤣

How do these find these bargains? Do you spend hours scrolling? All the BNWT things I see are still quite expensive.

I check daily for things I am looking for using bookmarked searches, use image search when I find something I like to see if I can find it cheaper and I check for brands with common spelling mistakes - this last one can be surprisingly successful.

I also favourite things that are like things I am looking for as this seems to help narrow down the algorithm. Looking out of season helps too. I've picked up 5 BNWT merino jumpers for between £9 and £14 over the summer (RRP currently is £38 ish)

I'm intrigued by your slouchy velvet cupcake.

Edited to add: I assumed there was some sort of typo, but after googling I see there is a brand called Cupcake and Cashmere, so you've bought a black, slouchy, velvet Cupcake and Cashmere top!

Edited

I may have put the commas in the wrong place there. 'By' would have been helpful 😅

These are hideous and I love them 😁

I bought two pairs of Uniqlo baggy curve jersey trousers and they are possibly the perfect trousers. Need a new wool coat.

Are these the jersey barrel leg trousers ? How thick are they? And how is the sizing?

What a stunning colour. Don’t tempt me.

TragicMuse · 31/08/2026 12:02

iforgotthepickles · 31/08/2026 08:57

Oooh! I’m going shopping so will look out for these!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 31/08/2026 13:02

They’re nice @iforgotthepickles

I had a tootle around M&S today, but didn’t buy anything. I was tempted by some leopard print barrel leg jeans, but think I might have missed the moment for them. They had some really nice lightweight jackets, but I’ve got so many that I couldn’t really justify one.

The quality of the knitwear was dreadful.

TragicMuse · 31/08/2026 14:39

iforgotthepickles · 31/08/2026 08:57

I’ve just bought these. They had them in black as well in my local store.

And I seem have got a double sparks reward £10 for spending £50 on fashion and another tenner pending for spending £40 on womenswear. Maybe one won’t complete…

AND I got a little waistcoat style top which was marked at £14 but all the others on the rail were £18. No idea what was happening there!

Pliudev · 31/08/2026 18:30

Lanx boots are great but I find the lace up ones I bought too stiff and heavy. I bought them in a fit of nostalgia for Lancashire. I love that they're producing such high quality boots in the area where I grew up a long time ago. Trying to bring myself to put them on Vinted because, though I like looking at them, I'm probably not going to wear them and they were quite an investment for me.

This thread has just reminded me I have 2 “mistakes” in the coat department from last year to need to go onto Vinted

I have a very expensive mistake coat from Reiss 😩 I need to it get on Vinted.

anon2022anon · 31/08/2026 21:53

@BangingOn that Dissh top is high on my wishlist 😍😍
@Cantonet I like that cardigan.

I'm in Cyprus at the moment, had to go to the shopping centre where they have a Zara and all of the sister stores. I could buy all of it. I didn't, as I don't have the luggage space, and it's not any cheaper here, but these are a few of my wants

Zara jacket

shirt with a great collar
beautiful jacket
the collar unfortunately didn't sit right, but lovely
Already bought this and love it

lived in the cream version of these from Zara this summer
Really decent quality for the price
this nearly came home with me

dontworrybhappy · 31/08/2026 23:23

Im loving the cowboy stuff at the moment

Thanks! Will have a look.

M&S have some lovely with lace too. I have a cream one. Saw a lady wearing it with a T-shirt and trainers and it looked really good dressed down too

I had the same experiencd with the loafers
Absolutely gorgeous and exquisitely made but so heavy I stepped out of them , they were like bricks
I did give them feedback so may be things might change, all the reviews said the same thing
Luckily I managed to return them

Tunaboona · 01/09/2026 08:35

I see a lot of checked/tartan maxi and midi skirts which I love the look of on the model.

Slightly concerned on me I will end up looking like super gran.

Pliudev · 01/09/2026 09:38

RosaNovella, thanks for your reply, good to know it's not just me. Unfortunately, I thought mine would wear in, so can't return them. Someone on Vinted is going to get a bargain!

I think it depends on the shape of the skirt and how you style them. Personally, I don't look great in very classic styles, so would add things like band t-shirt, chunky boots/high tops, leather jackets. Other people can rock the polo neck, riding boot look.

Cos do very good quality t-shirts.

This. Cos are my absolute go to for basic tees. Albeit at a higher price point Leset are also great.

I think the asymmetric ones might work..I'm quite short though so anything much beyond the knee makes me look like I'm dressing up in great aunt Maud's wardrobe.

Purplecatshopaholic · 01/09/2026 16:52

The reality is I dont ‘need’ anything. Will this stop me? Highly unlikely, lol.

FancyBiscuitsLevel · 01/09/2026 18:40

I’ve ordered some brown gazelles that should be arriving this week, I know they are a bit of an unfashionable style, but I am old and know they fit my feet well.

I’ve also ordered a couple of vest tops and T-shirts from the Boden discount this weekend to layer under jumpers.

then because I hadn’t quite put enough on my credit card in a 10 minute window, I bought an old suede jacket from vinted.

This isn’t bad going as I haven’t made it to the shops yet! I don’t work Fridays and had planned an autumn shopping trip this Friday once all the small people are back at school and I can go round in peace without lots of teens ordering overly complex iced drinks making my favourite coffee shop queues really long.

OnlyUsername · 01/09/2026 19:28

I went round the shops in Bath on Saturday morning and I have to say I was really disappointed. It was all just a a bit... sludge. Brown, dark navy and cream everywhere. I like those colours in moderation but I was hoping for a bit more burnt orange/dark green/aubergine.

Has anyone come across any lovely coats (preferably wool) that aren't boxy/huge that you are eyeing up?

I have on my list a decent wool coat (2 years looking) but everything is huge on me at the moment and I am fed up of sending them back. As a petite size 10/12 I need something with a bit of tailoring at the back.

Other than am looking at Lanx boots, and some chocolate brown loafers or boots.

Edited

Answered my own question (thanks to an Instagram post) and this lovely number arrived today. Hangs beautifully and after three years of searching I now have a decent winter coat again.
