New thread and it's welcome to the roaring twenties beauty addicts!

It's been a little quiet on the exciting edit and beauty releases front what with all the advent malarky but summer is drawing to a close and soon those autumn/winter releases and holiday edits will be popping up to tempt us.

If you're new here welcome and hello and for everyone else nice to see you back on Mumsnet's most tempting thread series that you cannot ignore even if you want to. 😈😍😂

Anyone could scan these threads and pick out a username though. Needs some thinking about. 🤔

I’ll have a ponder on practicalities. Happy to be an admin if needed so you’re not overwhelmed!

They could send a PM from here with their Facebook name, then join the Facebook group?

Yes that would be a better way around. I'll hang on to see if @IlovePond comes back with some words of wisdom from the Toast group then see what I can do.

Sorry for butting in, but could someone have to be PM'd a password on MN and to give that as proof of their identity when applying to join the FB buying group.

IlovePond · 09/09/2026 11:34

Posted the above in the wrong thread!

Edited to say:

I posted the above video in the wrong thread - I now have put it on the a/c thread where we have been talking about out of date products.

Sorry for the confusion.

Housewife2010 · 09/09/2026 11:35

Sorry, didn't see the update.

IlovePond · 09/09/2026 11:37

No, sorry @Housewife2010 - I meant I had posted in the wrong thread - not you!

Your idea is a good one x

SheilaFentiman · 09/09/2026 11:58

I have been in a FB group with MN regulars in the past (it’s still going, we just moved to a different platform).

The way it worked was a private group,

MN PM from a group admin to the member asking for the email address they used on FB, then email sent to that address with a FB invite (possibly an interim step was friending a group admin, so the invite could go via FB)

A private group is still findable by name on a FB search (so randoms could request to join but I doubt they would!). A secret group is, I think, not findable by name.

Unless people have more than one FB profile, then anonymity gets harder, but folks may not mind that!

I dread the day I sell to a scam artist on Vinted 😕. I do try to look at buyer's profiles before accepting offers, but that's not so easy if they buy at the listed price. I did purchase a "new and unused" Lola at the Coatcheck once, that arrived half full, with no leak in the box. Fortunately I got a refund and managed to keep the Half full one. I do purchase perfume with the expectation that it has been sprayed at least once, but not that much!

I'd be up for a swapsies FB group (although my FB account is in my cat's name 😸)

Maybe just keep an update list of Vinted names and share when asked? in the same way as on BAC thread?
So we still go via Vinted with all of its convenience, but have some reassurance of transaction?
I've had some very unpleasant Vinted experience as well, not of the scale of this scam, but still

26inprogress · 09/09/2026 12:53

Copied from another thread copied from another thread, may be worth a go 20% off sephora app only till 2pm. I'll presume it excludes the advent!

I’m in other selling groups and one of the rules is to use PayPal goods and services as that gives protection.

@Fillybuster i had someone report me on vinted as the new sandals I was selling had a mark under the strap (I just didn’t see it ). ! It was so upsetting, the feeling will pass, you’re a decent person, scammers are not, so try to forget it quickly.

I had someone buy some relatively cheap items - around £8 for a bundle. They put a report in as soon as it arrived to say everything was smashed. So I asked for a photo of said damage then I would refund. They came back and said they couldn't send a photo because they'd put it in the bin, so I asked they retrieve from the bin and photo, they then said it was too late as the bin men had been. This was all in under an hour of it being delivered. 😂

Re CB customer service, still waiting to hear back re the advent damage but I did manage to get them to credit the RRP of en edit item which arrived spoiled (but not without some persistence and chargeback threats!).

IlovePond · 09/09/2026 16:34

I posted this on the a/c thread but it should have been on here:

Re: Setting up a FB group to sell/buy products restricted to people who post on here and the GWP thread.
** on the Toast thread has kindly directed us to:

https://www.facebook.com/help/167970719931213
which has lots of help. It also seems possible to have the group private and ‘hidden’ so people who don’t know about it are unlikely to find it and ask to join.

I don't post much but would be interested in a swops/buy group or list of Vinted names. I don't buy too many edits, but when I do there is always something I am not bothered about, and maybe it's someone else's favourite!

The good thing with a FB group though is it keeps itself updated, and it’s not on one person to maintain a list.

The Caroline Hirons Skincare Freaks selling group posts listing (and some people use obviously anonymous names like firefly bunny 35) but the transacting happens via vinted or eBay, I believe.

For anyone who has tried the Prequel Gleanser, is it actually any good? I’m mulling over a SNK order.

Still catching up so someone may have answered. Cleansers are my favourite step. I absolutely love the prequel gleanser. You need half a pump, it feels like it wouldn't cleanse and would leave a film but its excellent and skin feels amazing afterwards. Probably my second favourite ever cleanser

Does anyone have thoughts about a Discord Server whereby people could retain their MN username and only share personal details with someone they were arranging a swap with?

Disclaimer: I don't know how Discord works exactly yet. Just going off AI recommending it as a suitable platform for a swap group.

I’ve had to use Discord for a group and hated it, not least because it was just yet another app to download and have pinging at me. But others may prefer it obviously.

I think a secret FB group might be an idea with payments via PayPal G&S. Or people could give a link to their EBay or Vinted listing if they prefer. Obvs if people are just swapping that’s unnecessary.

I've sent you a PM. I'm getting there in figuring it out.
