I love this’s thread so much every year. When the BAC and FAC season is all done and dusted can we find another shared obsession to get us through the early part of the year? I can’t sustain the enthusiasm for beauty for a whole twelve months, so could you all take up birdwatching or something?

I’m still totally undecided on the advent situation. I have enough Liberty credit but it’s not calling to me usual, and I know deep down that I only want the Selfridges FAC because a lot of you do 😂

Thanks. I literally just came on to ask similar question about Next - do they usually do a luxury and a men’s as well as their 25 day beauty?

I got a £50 gift card in last years Harvey Nichols Fragrance calendar. Fortunately, I just used it towards a bag that I ordered a couple of weeks ago. Not sure they would honer it if I still had it!

They did a luxe one last year. I don't remember a men's, I could have forgotten though.

I'm sure both advents were announced at the same time last year but we've only had the one revealed.

I have a couple of questions for the experienced Autumnal shoppers here:

1. How do you plan/budget for BACs and Black Friday offers? Last year I did really well with Black Friday purchases. This year I’m hoping to order the Fortnum and Mason BAC and potentially the CB one too. So, I should really then resist all offers from then on. How?!

2. if you buy multiple advent calendars, where do they live during advent season? I read someone was using a large dining table, but I think I’d feel too conspicuous. The constant trickle of skincare / make up purchases already elicit good-natured chastisement from my kids, I’m not sure what they’d make of it if I set up shop.

I buy em split em sell em and use the money to buy more. Rinse and repeat. Keep the choice picks for myself.

I was soooo sure I would get Space NK. I’m a deluxe member and keen to meet the threshold to continue to be so, and the calendars are usually good. But this year it’s meh. It’s not worth the price tag for me.

Cult Beauty however looks good so far.

You are an expert though, I am half motivated to send you my leftovers to you to sell as I can't be dealing with selling and hoarding. More money for your addiction.

I pre order the ones I really want and pick up bonus ones in BF or pre Christmas sales. It’s rare that the desirable ones make it to the sale so if they are a good fit then I don’t wait. In terms of budgeting I just adjust what I want for Christmas, eg I told my DH not to buy me perfume for Christmas because I would prefer he spent the same amount on the HNF as he would on a single bottle.

i spread mine around and don’t keep all of them for advent. I have one/two in the bedroom, one In The dining room with the children’s and one in the bathroom. The others I either open in one go on Christmas or I do a November and Jan advent or like last years HNF still sits unopened. I might use this once summer is over.

@DidILeaveTheGasOn I start out with a reasonable plan then from September it goes downhill and gets messy.

I hoard advent things for a short period then somewhere around xmas to new year I force myself to be a bit ruthless and sell on the things I think I won't use. Occasionally I sell something I later regret but overall it's a relief to streamline down just to the things I really like.

Me too, im just under the £275 to make it Deluxe member for another year. I will use majority of SNK, so probably will get it. But CB looks great too.

It's me who displayed them on my dining table last year. I don't have children though, it's only me, my husband and pooch. The year before, I only had a Harrods bac so I displayed it in the living room as part of my Christmas decs.
Last year, like a few others, I did split a few up, kept what I wanted, sold what I didn't want and then merged the calendars into the spacenk calendar to make one big Frankenstein 😀

I empty them when i receive them. I keep one box and put the stuff I want for myself in it. I open that during December. By that time I have completely forgotten whats in it.

All the stuff that I dont want I put on Vinted and Marketplace immediately. I usually get the full price of the calendar back and quite a few free products for myself that way.

Sometimes it turns out I have too much stuff so I will sell that as well. If I dont use it within X couple of months Im not going to use it.
