Hi everyone who is joining from the Beauty GWP chat threads and welcome to anyone else.

Last year our lovely @BakeOffRewatch did an amazing job running all the threads through to December. This year due to the time commitment it takes, we're going to try and run them as a community effort.

Guidelines
I'm starting this first one but hoping that when a thread looks close to ending another thread member can set the next one up.

To avoid duplicate threads please try to post in the thread that's ending to alert everyone you're setting up a new one.

Other members check who was first to offer and whether a new one is live.

It might be an idea to keep a list of advents that are live in the OP and later on which are sold out. This can be copy/pasted/edited when a new thread is started.

It probably goes without saying but please be courteous and patient with each other. This thread will have spoilers and please no judging of others for their purchasing choices. Participation in the threads is optional.

I don't know how well this will work out but thanks in advance to everyone who helps out.

Yes I bought it on an impulse when they reduced it slightly. Was it a £10 or £20 discount? I can't remember.

I am thinking it was a 10% discount. They offered 10% off beauty items and it included the calendar. My DH had already ordered it beforehand as I panicked it would sell out fast so we missed out on the discount.

Sminty2 · 19/07/2026 21:31

@Addictedtobeauty ih, thank you. I will definitely look out for that calendar. It sounds a lovely experience and yes, you are right. Quality is a much better gift ♥️

@OvaHere thank you. I have signed up to so many waiting lists 😻 I have my eye on several beautiful boxes of joy 🤩

That’s an amazing price for Penhaligons. I bought it the year before last from Bicester (online) and paid £198. It had a big bottle (and a small one!) of the dreaded Halfeti- I am also not a fan. It was beautiful to look at but I found it very sandy and was not tempted a second time.

I bought Diptyque last year and have kept it unopened in my front room for the whole year. It’s very beautiful - I’ll open it this year but maybe as an Autumn calendar to make the most of the fragrances and candles as the nights draw in. Then it’s space can be filled with a beauty advent come December.

Don’t leave it too long - I left my perfumes from last year and started using them recently and a lot of them have gone off!

Thelifeofawife · 19/07/2026 21:34

@pinkchampagne1 You are correct. I also missed out on the discount as I bought early. It’s the price we paid for peace of mind 😅

On the other hand, when Harvey Nichols reduced their FAC, I bought a second one 😅

Just reading through this article. The author seems to think Selfridges might wade into fragrance calendars this year.

That would be exciting! I wish Liberty would do another fragrance calendar.

SoloCat · 19/07/2026 23:00

So sorry for your loss @Sminty2

This thread and the AC’s saw me through a really difficult time last year. I had life saving surgery…I didn’t have my Christmas Tree up last year, but I did manage to distract myself with this lovely thread and just felt less alone.
I find MN to be full of quite horrible people at times, but this thread (apart from the odd gatecrasher) has been quite a constant for me and many of the lovely ladies that inhabit this space. ❤️

I really hope so, and I hope they release details sooner rather than later, preferably before Harrods release 🙏🏼.

I’m glad you’ve also found some comfort in this thread, and I hope you’re back to good health since your surgery 💐

Thank you ❤️ I’m definitely having my tree up this year, getting back to some normality now.

Hopefully we can all have a great year for AC’s…I’m going to try to be sensible, but I usually end up Impulsively purchasing more than I intended, although since surgery I can’t stand Oud scents, so Harrods FAC maybe a no go!

Itsnouse · 20/07/2026 06:35

I’m definitely due a splurge this year because I’ve been so restrained the last two years that my stash has reduced to almost nothing. I have a few toners and eye creams and that’s about it. Oh and enough perfumes to last me 3 years. I had Liberty last year which I really enjoyed and the year before that I had Holland and Barret which is brilliant for the price btw. If you’re on a budget or even if you aren’t, it contains enough toiletries for face and body to keep you going for quite some time.

I also cancelled the liberty beauty drop. I was going to be very restrained and focused in my purchases and stick to buying my favourite Clarins products. But I’m ready for some new things now and I am really enjoying reading all your thoughts about the calendars coming out this year. I’ve never had Harrods advent calendar and that one seems quite tempting. I like the look of the lipsticks as my complexion is quite pale and . It’s great that there are so many calendars to choose from. Like other posters, I would just like to add how nice it is on this thread as some areas of Mumsnet seem to attract comments which are just designed to upset.

BadgerFace · 20/07/2026 07:10

I am just catching up on the thread and agree what a joyous corner of Mumsnet this is. I know zero about beauty products but find myself year after year reading each post and buying myself a few calendars along the way including a birthday Jadvent.

I have made myself a Frankenstein calendar over the past eight months and did a bit of rearranging yesterday. Perimenopause is helping magnificently with me forgetting what’s in it… I think I have one more skincare box purchase (most likely John Lewis in October) to replace the current Lumene drawers as they are not exciting me enough after two years running of Lumene cut price calendars.

Very excited at the thought of a Boots FAC as that might save me a Jo Malone/Jo Loves price tag which I’ve been considering…! (But then I’ll probably get carried away when they drop…)

The code isn’t applicable to this item. Regardless it’s perfect for me - a couple of products I already use and I’m about to run out of sunscreen. It’s on its way!

Bugger!!

JoRaRaRa · 20/07/2026 08:25

I spoke to my husband last night about potentially making a Frankenstein calendar this year. I like to make the calendar using products that I like from all the acs, either buying them and selling what I don't want or picking up stuff on vinted.

I've just sold a load of stuff from the tatcha and Elemis x Harrods acs and it's reminded me how much I loved it last year. I think he's going to help me with it all so I've got time to do it. Those who sell a lot will know how much time it takes to unbox, photo, list, package it up and take to the lockers.

We'll see though when the other calendars are released. Currently I want a lot of the skincare from Harrods (not fussed about tatcha and medik8), and around 4 things from the liberty calendar.

pinkchampagne1 · 20/07/2026 08:26

I have ordered using the code, despite promising myself that I won’t buy any more beauty bits in the run up to advent season. 😳 In my defence, I am short on cleansing balm and there isn’t one in the Harrods advent (if I go for that) and the SPF is needed for this weather, plus it is a bargain! 😁

Sounds like a good plan to me. 😃
Which bits are you interested in in the Liberty advent? I quite like the look of the Sisley cream, though would prefer it to be a moisturiser rather than another skin care step. Maybe a couple of the fragrances but a lot of it doesn’t excite me.

The Sisley cream, the Fugazzi Angel Dust perfume (I love this perfume), Reome broth, the Violette lipgloss, and the Charlotte Mensah hair oil.

I've agreed to do my husband a Frankenstein calendar, he felt a full beauty one was too much last year, the year before he had a beer one and thought that was too much too. So I'm going to create him one with a mix of things he likes. I think the Sunday Riley serum and the Zelens from liberty would be good for him.

wishihadawilly · 20/07/2026 08:58

Oh no, think I’ve missed out in getting the Sali Hughes box, it won’t let me add it to my bag 😔 That was quick!!

SheilaFentiman · 20/07/2026 09:06

@wishihadawilly it's saying 'notify me when available' to me
