Hi everyone who is joining from the Beauty GWP chat threads and welcome to anyone else.

Last year our lovely @BakeOffRewatch did an amazing job running all the threads through to December. This year due to the time commitment it takes, we're going to try and run them as a community effort.

Guidelines
I'm starting this first one but hoping that when a thread looks close to ending another thread member can set the next one up.

To avoid duplicate threads please try to post in the thread that's ending to alert everyone you're setting up a new one.

Other members check who was first to offer and whether a new one is live.

It might be an idea to keep a list of advents that are live in the OP and later on which are sold out. This can be copy/pasted/edited when a new thread is started.

It probably goes without saying but please be courteous and patient with each other. This thread will have spoilers and please no judging of others for their purchasing choices. Participation in the threads is optional.

I don't know how well this will work out but thanks in advance to everyone who helps out.

@AppleDumplingWithCustard - I agree with you completely about Liberty - ‘niche’ describes it perfectly.

I think I am also grumpy as the first BD I got last summer was great, but they’ve been going steadily downhill since then - imo - with April’s being terrible- again - imo!

I am waiting with baited breath to see what is in July’s box.

Primrosespaw · 10/07/2026 12:57

I agree, I think Liberty is certainly a niche store. My absolute favourite in London and one I have been shopping at for years. I love the amazing rug department where I bought myself a small 80 year old Persian rug as a birthday present, adore the fabric, which I make in to silk scarves and pillow cases, velvet wall hangings and reupholstered chairs and have some beautiful homeware and handbags, mostly all bought in the sales. I even love the restaurant for a treat.

It contrasts beautifully with my other shopping love, which is Toast, where I buy most of my clothes, mostly single colours . So to add a flourish of a liberty silk scarf I have had run up by a tailor for 12 quid and spray a rather unusual perfume from the Liberty AC, I am good to go.

For me the Liberty AC is better than last years, I think I will use all the products other than two, which I will gift. I am making mum a Frankenstein AC with last years beautiful box. Last year we shared with top ups from the BD, this year, she will have her own.

ClutteredPalace · 10/07/2026 13:17

I was a bit disappointed with the initial reveal but having thought about it, its mostly because I really wasn't keen on the Grown Alchemist hand cream from the beauty drop and I don't relish the thought of another. Even though I've already got some of the fragrances, I at least know I like them and don't mind having back ups. I'm doing a very good job of talking myself into it at the moment. I won't pre-order it, partly because I never get Liberty emails so I'd need to faff about contacting them, and partly because I want to save a bit more credit towards it.

CocoMascara · 10/07/2026 15:41

I’ve just gone back and studied the liberty BAC some more. I was initially disappointed but on looking again, I think I would use the majority of things and could gift the ones I’m not too keen on. I think I prefer it to last years. I love both the lipsticks and the Fugazzi. I’ll try and resist spending my beauty drop credit for the next couple of months before finally deciding

IlovePond · 10/07/2026 17:26

I wish I could sew @Primrosespaw!

I’m a bit surprised I haven’t had my Liberty BD bag - mine usually comes early for some reason.

AppleDumplingWithCustard · 10/07/2026 17:42

I put my Liberty AC box on my local marketplace website for free last year as it was far too nice to recycle. A man came to get it and told me that his wife had just given birth to their first baby so money was a bit tight. He was thrilled to get the box as he intended to fill it with nice things for her. I thought that was so lovely.

@OvaHere I don’t think I’ve ever tried anything from this brand. I need to check through my stash. I did notice this kit that cost £40 and comes with a £40 gift card so would be technically free for anyone planning on using the £40 to buy the advent calendar. I haven’t looked into the t&c’s but in theory that would work.

eduted to add: there are a few kits that are £40 with a £40 gift voucher

I got an avant kit that last year with the £40 voucher and I don’t remember there being any exclusions on it. They did then send me a discount code for the advent calendar too (I didn’t buy it as I already had three others🤣). Avant is also on top cash back if anyone uses that. I’ve liked the products but for me none have been wow products.

ETA I don’t think I will buy a single brand calendar again, or at least not as my only calendar, because even though I loved all the products in my E-SPA one last year and have used everything, it is just not as exciting to open!

I used my £40 voucher to buy 2 sets of the perfume sampler packs for me and a friend ... some nice fragrances

MidnightMeltdown · 11/07/2026 11:09

Oh, advent calendars already! I’ve not bought a single beauty product yet this year, and I still have too much stuff to use up. I’m not sure whether I can justify getting a calendar this year, but I may potentially get ONE!

The last beauty related item I bought was the Harvey Nichols fragrance advent when it went into the sale last year. Not only was it reduced, but I got a £50 gift card in day 12. Nice to know that the gift cards do actually exist!

Thelifeofawife · 11/07/2026 13:52

@MidnightMeltdown Ooh lucky you! 😃 I bought 2 of them but got no voucher 😅
I really liked that calendar, and I’m looking forward to seeing this years offering.

Well done on your no beauty spend, I couldn’t even last a month! I do need to stop as my bedroom is now resembling a warehouse 🙈

IlovePond · 11/07/2026 14:55

@Keffert I know what you mean about single brand calendars. I am ‘on the fence’.

I have had Shiseido, Clarins and Rituals as single brand calendars.

I really like Rituals and enjoy the calendar designs, (although last year’s top price one was just weird). I would probably get a Rituals again if the price was right, (ended up paying £64 for the wreath last year).

Clarins 12 day - bought Xmas 23- I didn’t rate this one at all, (although I bought it when reduced before Xmas). I think I just don’t really ‘like’ Clarins stuff all that much for some reason. (Although I have since repurchased the beauty balm.)

Shiseido 2024-I got this at a good price - reduced at the outlet just before Xmas. I really liked most of the products but was put off by the teeny tiny sizes in most drawers! I would repurchase a Shiseido calendar, if the price was right.

Batsratscatsgnats · 11/07/2026 17:08

Ooh id like to join you all please. Last year I got a liberty one as a gift for a family member, a glossybox one for me and a degusta one for DH. Honestly loved them all. This year I want to get the Harrods fragrance and one beauty one - not sure which- and maybe the degusta one again LOVED that

I’ve just looked up the degusta advent. I think my DH would love that too. What an unusual combination and fun advent. I also think that if I buy him one that’s soo physically large then I have the excuse to buy at least 3! Size does matter after all!

keepincool · 11/07/2026 18:22

Amongst the many, many BACs and foodie calendars i purchased last year, the Degusta one was a favourite, closely followed by the Laithwaites mixed wine one(s) 😀

Thelifeofawife · 11/07/2026 20:36

@IlovePond I was thinking about the Rituals one this afternoon, I realised I’d still not opened it and was debating whether to just decant the contents directly into the bathroom cabinet, or keep for winter; I’ll possibly do the latter, but I’ve been rubbish with remembering about my BACs and still need to open my JL and Lumene one 🙈

@Batsratscatsgnats I looked at Degusta last year after seeing it recommended on MN, I think I’ll take a chance on it this year as it does look an interesting calendar - I think I was just fatigued with all of the beauty and fragrance purchases last year

IlovePond · 11/07/2026 22:40

I really liked it @Thelifeofawife

HollyGolightly4 · 11/07/2026 22:52

I'm contemplating rituals, but I don't know how I'll feel about a single brand one.

HollyGolightly4 · 11/07/2026 22:52

I'm contemplating rituals, but I don't know how I'll feel about a single brand one.

Rituals one last year gave me the chance to try out the different fragrances and confirm I only like one ..

There were some I really disliked (too lavender ) or wouldn't used (candles) so I recycled them , but most I used .

ClutteredPalace · 11/07/2026 23:11

I've still got a Lumene calendar to open but I'm saving that for my birthday month. I don't mind having a single brand for that or Jadvent but I wouldn't want it as my main calendar. I do like the look of the Degusta and am considering it for my DP. As a pp said, it might deflect from my own calendars.

🎄Selfridge's have announced their advent calendar 😍💃🏻

It was £250 last year.

Thank you for the link. How exciting. I can see that Selfridges stock VB now and I think Space NK too. It would be quite nice to see something from VB in one of those calendars, e.g., a VB serum.
