Hello everyone, well it's officially summer.

This is about feeling better about yourself and looking and feeling better etc. But mainly we chat and laugh quite a lot, which has all got to help towards happiness etc.

The rules (anyone can join):

  • Sunscreen at all times - REALLY mean this now summer is here.
  • No or little booze. Wine or Champagne or whatever at the weekend is allowed if you want it
  • Walking is important, a small amount every day if possible. 30 mins if you can
  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day
  • Apply body cream as often as possible
  • Use hand cream
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if pos
  • Eat healthily
  • Be happy

The idea is that we all feel happier, healthier and glow with the good food, sleep, exercise, water and lack of sun damage.

Some people are doing India and Neris's Idiot Proof Diet (Atkins, more or less), others are doing Slimy World, others are just being as healthy as possible.

Welcome everyone, have a good week.

WWW - DD fine this w/e but have had that teary experience more times than I care to recount and will no doubt have more to come. Re: walking - do you use the pedometer? Have a good week.

Prufrock · 22/06/2008 21:46

I won't be home until Thursday - have elected to stay in for an extra night so I'm not tempted to do too much. But I'll probably be taking my laptop to stave off boredom.

Am officially not talking to DH at the moment - I missed an exit on the way up to Nottm today and he couldn't work out how to turn on Tom-Tom, I'm driving up A1 getting stressed and was admittedly being a nag, but he completely lost it, which he has only done once before, and screamed at me. Now I know I have probably done worse, but he still insists that it was my fault, and I "pushed him" and won't accept responsibility for losing his temper, and that scares me a bit. So we are ignoring each other - which is rather annoying as I have to tell him lots of things that he needs to remember for next week

unknownrebelbang · 22/06/2008 21:47

noddy. On that basis, I'll give up now, shall I - only another 10 years til I'm dying like my mother, then. She always looked good though...she had an understated style. Alas, she didn't pass that down through the genes, rofl.

but of course, batters, can just imagine a nice judgey-judgey thread to that effect.

Great news about your dad Marina.

Thanks yoyo. Faster progress would be nice, but hey, it's going slowly but surely.

Haha at John Otway, prufrock, priceless.

WideWebWitch · 22/06/2008 21:48

Ah, so I hope you manage to rest and stuff Prufrock. Sorry to hear about dh, is he the sort that apologises? My dh is usually the one to say sorry first which I recognise makes him the better person.

unknownrebelbang · 22/06/2008 22:08

Have had quite a pleasant weekend, not as manic as I was expecting. All three rebel boys are happy, which is novel - DS1 has bought himself guitar heroes for the PS2; DS2 loved the hike, although is a bit offside now; and DS3 has spent the day with a good friend.

Summer fete was a bit of a washout yesterday morning, but I had a giggle/caught up with various people.

Going back to the other thread, here are a couple of the things I'd like to do, although not sure of timing...maybe before the cruise, so next Easter:

a decent bra fitting. Nearly bought £100 worth of lingerie in the Figleaves sale the other night, the only thing that stopped was that they were non-returnable. This, and my hips, are where I lose the weight from first, grrr.

a decent haircut. Not unhappy with my hair, just hate having it cut, so leave it, but it needs doing, and if I can work up the courage, may change style.

will need to buy a couple of fab items for the cruise too, but definitely need to lose some more weight before then.

I really must spend more time pampering myself.

Long term, would love to learn to ride a horse, but couldn't subject any horse to that horror just yet.

Wouldn't mind a bit of botox, I have two upright creases, about an inch long, just above my eyes in the middle of my forehead - I've always frowned terribly, and these are the only noticeable lines on my face. I hate them, but not sure I'm brave enough to actually get it done.

Prufrock · 22/06/2008 22:13

ureb - you don't need botox for those, you need restalyne or some other filler (not that I've looked into it of course)

chutneymary · 22/06/2008 22:20

Hello everyone, just back from wet and windy Cornwall and looking in on my old frieds to see how you are! Great news about your dad, Marina, St T's is indeed wonderful (had DD1 there). Good luck for Tues Prufrock - will be thinking of you enviously! Well done everyone on the various weight losses. And wishing everyone a happy and healthy week.

Have averaged 13000 steps on hols each day (god bless my moron), lots of fish, not enough water and rather a lot of stodge. Time to put my poor pregnant body on the line and go swimming. DDs at nursery tomorrow and I am "working" at home, so after the washing goes on I may hotfoot it to the pool to see how many lengths I can do. Haven't been since pregnant with DD1 aged 3 so I doubt it'll be many. And, drumroll, I'm going to see Neil Diamond tomorrow at the O2 so will be high on happiness.

It's good to be back.

yoyo · 22/06/2008 23:22

Ureb - I have the same problem with forehead furrows. Always put it down to squinting in bright sunlight!

Prufrock - any info on these "fillers" would be most appreciated. Do you know anything about laser hair removal (of the upper lip kind)? Particularly like to know how one finds reputable places to visit.

bamamama · 23/06/2008 05:02

Hello all. Veil firmly drawn over last week but doing slightly better so far (admittedly it is only early Monday afternoon).

Eemie - hope your house viewing pick up, how very annoying that people don't have the courtesy to let you know they're not going to show up.

Marina - great to hear that your dad should be out soon. I spent a very interesting afternoon at the Australian War Memorial this weekend. They have a fantastic exhibition which made me think of your dad!

Batters - that's an incredible amount of weight lost. Lol at your trip to the country, sounds very much like you 'went on holiday by mistake..'

WWW - I really miss Dr Who (or rather I really miss Mr. Tennant) and annoyingly can't access the BBC iplayer as we're out of the country. We've agreed to get rid of the TV when we get back as we haven't missed it whilst we're here so will be glued to my laptop trying to catch up.

Prufrock - good luck with the surgery. I hope you're suitably rested by Thurs. Also hope you've managed to patch things up with dh.

Chutneymary - glad to see you back, your holiday sounds lovely.

Nothing to report from me. My back seems to be ok now so am toying with the idea of going for a run this afternoon as I am obviously not doing any work.
Definately not going to drink until Friday. We then have 35 philosophers coming over for drinks. Insert your own punch line.

These older primary kids really are hard work at the mo, aren't they. I keep wanting to shout "Danger, UXB" at ds, he is so tetchy , especially with his dad, and the spectacle of this pair entering a dismal endgame of mutual huffing and snapping makes me want to leg it with fiery, cheerful dd and hide in TP den with a packet of biscuits . Here's hoping for a non-cranky harmonious week for all offspring especially Yr4-6 ones.
Have just read the whole thread - my take on it all is that bootcamp has given me the impetus to take better general care of myself for a long time now and even before I started losing weight, I've had many comments about my improved appearance, including from that harsh old besom my own mother. So now the kg are shifting too, I feel well on the road to silk pursedom, and I've www and batters to thank for specific inspiration, and all the chat and encouragement from all my fellow sows' ears here too. The way I see it, pace India and Neris, is you can be unfat again when you want to and do try, but changing your personality for the better is much harder .
Good luck with the house viewings eemie, hope you get a buyer soon
Welcome back from your hols chutney, sorry they were so rainlashed
batters, really hope A's dd is not too badly affected, that's a rotten turn-up for the books
LOL at the drinks party for philosophers bama, at this hour pre coffee I can only rustle up "I drink, therefore I am", which is apparently a Bad Example.

I spose I ought to post a typical day on SW. Yesterday was:

Banana, pear, and v. lowfat bio yog for breakfast

Small portion of wholemeal pasta and bolognese sauce made the SW way for lunch, nectarine

Marinaded grilled chicken, skin off, wilted spinach and steamed carrots, v. low fat yog for dinner.

Syns (God I HATE that cutesty terminology) were enjoying some Liptonic Ice Tea with lunch, and a Skinny Cow toffee ice lolly, highly recommended.

Power walked this morning after breakfast of pear and nectarine with cup of tea

Cammelia · 23/06/2008 11:00

Hi www, where would we be without you?

Thank you Batters for the compliment, only wish it were true

eemie you're very sweet but I suspect that your certain age is 10 yy than my certain age

Good Luck tomorrow Prufrock

Your Pa is made of strong stuff Marina

We've got most of dd's exam results in and she's so far doing very well. The reason its all so important this year is because she is aiming at the scholarship class which runs for the final 2 years (7 and 8)of her Prep school.

The end of year exam results are merely one factor, they have also had CATS tests (IQ) and aptitude and attitude (as in behaviour) are also taken into account.

The Art teacher has strongly indicated that dd will be an Art scholar and the Head of Studies has hinted at trying for an Academic Scholarship as well.

These will be aimed at her next (senior) school obv.

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 23/06/2008 14:00

Apologies for going awol - to much too read on this thread and I can't keep up.

Good luck pru - do post updates if you can!

Have bootcamped quite well over the weekend. B/feeding is now making me want to eat all day and quite late into the evening - it's shocking how much fruit I'm eating in a bid to stay away from biscuits/crisps/anything fast & easy.

Am loving the manipedi cream from Estee Lauder. It smells lovely but it's not as effective on hard cracked hooves as Flexitol.

Have more chicks hatching so need to build a new run. More later...!

So Norks, piss on the feet is more effective then?

Batters - why does dd not sleep do you think? dd doesn't - for a whole host of reasons but mainly anxiety and having a tired body and an active brain. Tis a bummer TBH.

Good luck tomorrow Pru.

Did you run bama?

ureb - your list is similar to mine. Except the horse - I'm a wuss around horses. I'd like to play the piano.

yoyo - re the gym. It's going well. I'm enjoying it which I thought I wouldn't having only joined because the physio told me not to run. I've lost a a few pounds and my thighs are a little slimmer (beneath the cellulite ) but I've lost weight off my boobs which I can ill afford. I need to pay more attention to my upper arms; they're a bit feeble.

Bootcamping has been OK although I've felt a bit rough this weekend - not sure why. It can't be the result of one large glass of wine surely?

moonshine · 23/06/2008 19:25

Ha ha at piss on the feet - maybe we should cut out the middle man then and save some money.

For someone who hates this thread, Cod comes on an awful lot. And of course she is right - we should all be spending our time scouring the high streets up and down the land for that school run dress instead of any form of self-improvement (albeit often of the shallow sort but that does often help mend the underlying not so shallow ills).

Prufrock - I am so jealous (already) of your new norks-to-be. I would love mine done, not because of size but to stop them scraping my belly (which I would also have sucked and tightened if I had the money). Good luck.

And as for John Otway - I have seen him more times than I care to mention in my years as he is from my home town and was always the support at local gigs.

I had a very good weekend, bootcamp wise, despite drinking wine and eating pizza ie I did not put on any weight, which for me is a minor miracle. I tried to make it a small plain pizza and just a few glasses of wine over 3 days, so bootcamp has helped me change my attitude towards stuffing my face at the weekends.

I too have that furrowed brow crease and have tried various things but think just botox will fix it. And I may try it once next year for my next big annual work.
event.

I would also seriously consider professional dermabrasion on my face to improve the texture and again may look into it but fear I will never be able to justify the money.

Still, my target this week is to start more regular toning exercises and lose 2lbs.

unknownrebelbang · 23/06/2008 20:41

Positive vibes for tomorrow prufrock.
How's things with DH?

Chutney, enjoy Neil Diamond, I like his stuff.

  • Sunscreen at all times yy
  • No booze.
  • Walking - 2 mile hike, plus the twister.
  • Lots of water - not enough today.
  • Apply body cream - lax.
  • Use hand cream - lax.
  • Go to bed early, midnight last night.
  • Eat healthily - reasonable, but not as planned.
  • Be happy - well, I had an unexpected day off work today, which is always a good thing, alas it was because DS2 is unwell, which is obviously not such a good thing. In an odd way though, it was nice because I spend so little time with DS2 by himself, and he succumbed to lots of hugs throughout the day.
WideWebWitch · 23/06/2008 21:24

In haste:

2 sausage and egg muffins
spinach, green beans, quails eggs, tuna and vinaigrette
salami
chorizo as a snack
tarragon chicken
lots of water
used sunscreen

thinking of you & your norks pru, xxx

Marina · 23/06/2008 22:03

Evening all - 17,000 steps and only three measly Syns hurrah, hurrah. The rest of it was sodding fruit and veg, I feel like one of those lemurs at Colchester Zoo, picking over bits of cabbage and trying to look chuffed - not really, am pleased with self
Best of luck for tomorrow pru, truly. Am a bit funny about surgery after my Unlucky Alf obstetrics history, so could never do it myself, but I really hope it goes well and you have re-established links with Planet Tosser in time.
Am going to give Debenhams and Branormous a go, in the sales for preference.
My aims:
To be a size 12 and spend the rest of my 40s looking like a well-preserved fox.
I also want to challenge assumptions at work, ha .
To be fit enough to do the Race for Life next year.

Twink · 23/06/2008 22:36

I lurk around here whenever I've got a free moment which sadly isn't often but just wanted to say how inspiring you all are.

Marina, getting fit (and losing 3 stone in the process) for Race for Life was the thing that kick-started my healthy living and I've (honestly) never looked back; on top of my running & triathlon stuff, I did London to Brighton bike ride last weekend with some friends, great laugh, highly recommend it as a target for anyone building their fitness. Mumsnet team for next year ??

Pru, hope all goes well tomorrow.

Must go and find handcream, skin like iguana..

bamamama · 24/06/2008 01:32

morning all.

Good luck for today Pru, you may qualify for the best weight loss this week

I had a good bootcamp day yesterday after a shaky banana choc chip muffin start. I walked 17k and ran about 8k ate lots of fruit, no bread and drank loads of water. It's bound to go downhill by Wednesday but at least I cracked the begining of the week!

I don't really have any aims. (story of my life really) Will go away and have a think.

Will also now go and catch up with rest of thread.

eemie · 24/06/2008 07:29

Cammelia, no, I'm not being sweet, I'm 52 (today).

Dd claims I told her 50 was the new 25, so she's worked out that 52 must be the new 26. So the balloons in the playroom have labels stuck on saying '52 today - no, sorry, 26 hahaha'

Dh has given me a card. Says couldn't find any earrings he liked (in Bluewater ?)

Bought myself new bras, (inspired by this thread) after a proper fitting. Not 36E but 34 FF. Much more comfortable.

I slept well. Puppy has performed in the right place. Sun is shining. Off to park with a song in my heart (Bach Singet dem Herrn) and sunscreen on face. Good wishes to all bootcampers

Marina · 24/06/2008 09:16

I have just choked on my coffee at your dh being unable to locate suitable earrings in Bluewater eemie. I suspect that means they don't stock them in the sports magazine section of WH Smith
Have a very happy day notwithstanding and hurrah for the newly housed norks, that calls for a quick canter through "I Was Glad"
and also LOL at the aimless life. Does this mean you are both philosophers then?
Good to see you posting Twink, I remember being very impressed with your achievements in doing the Race for Life . Thanks for the encouraging words!
Good start to morning apart from ds constantly bending our ears about how he will not be able to survive until his birthday tomorrow because he is too excited about his Wii
Thinking of you today prufrock, good luck
Cam, dd has done well hasn't she I agree with batters, you are enviably elegant at all times
I'll join you with the piano playing saggars!

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 24/06/2008 10:52

Well bless me cotton socks. Hello Twink

Happy Birthday eemie

Have gymmed ('to gym' should be a verb don't you think?) Am strengthening my arms in order to strangle ds1 who despite me confiscating his cash card seems to find ways to spend money he doesn't have. I am at the end of my tether with him.
