Hello everyone, well it's officially summer.

This is about feeling better about yourself and looking and feeling better etc. But mainly we chat and laugh quite a lot, which has all got to help towards happiness etc.

The rules (anyone can join):

  • Sunscreen at all times - REALLY mean this now summer is here.
  • No or little booze. Wine or Champagne or whatever at the weekend is allowed if you want it
  • Walking is important, a small amount every day if possible. 30 mins if you can
  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day
  • Apply body cream as often as possible
  • Use hand cream
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if pos
  • Eat healthily
  • Be happy

The idea is that we all feel happier, healthier and glow with the good food, sleep, exercise, water and lack of sun damage.

Some people are doing India and Neris's Idiot Proof Diet (Atkins, more or less), others are doing Slimy World, others are just being as healthy as possible.

Welcome everyone, have a good week.

anyone else need convincing to join me?

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 24/06/2008 11:12

arf @ suzy showing off

no thanks to cutting out middle man re: piss for feet

I'm doing a Race for Life next year too, I nearly opted to run a July one this year but thought that would be pushing it a bit and I might kill an innocent bystander with my 'normous b/f norks. I will probably also do the 10k SIDS race next May.

Food good but I need to go to farmers market and replenish the fruit bowl. Water lots. Sunscreen/hand cream/body butter done. Feet neglected again and heels beginning to look rough.

Sleep - quite good all things considered - Archie is as good as you could hope for at night given his youth (month old already though ).

Very happy in the sunshine and we have another 5 chicks hatched under a broody hen. Awww!

WideWebWitch · 24/06/2008 12:36

Bloody hell, TWINK, you haven't been here for years have you? We met once didn't we (iirc)?

Well done everyone, lordy that Wong is such a show off isn't she?

Am knackered, inexplicably and am beginning to think that I will have to give up even more wine and only drink for 1 night at the weekend since I've got a horrible feeling that I feel shit on Mondays because of a sugar crash after the sugar in wine on Fri and St nights. How annoying. And I can't carry on drinking Sans dosage Champagne at £30 a bottle, sigh.

Never mind!
2 sausage and egg muffins
salami and cambozola and port salut as snack
smoked salmon and cream cheese
lots of water
sunscreen

and went to bed at 10.45 last night but am knackered still, it's not early enough really.

Batters - you do not need another Mulberry bag.

yoyo · 24/06/2008 14:48

DH home tonight. Hooray. Lethargic day so far but intend to exercise later in the hope that I gain some energy. Great night's sleep last night after slathering loads of rehydrating stuff on and then wrapping myself up (one of the benefits of no DH is that my skin is treated better). Good with food so far today.

Short-term goals - continue with the gym; get a good hair cut and colour; buy new and different glasses (and contacts so that I can wear shades without deepening my furrows).

Longer term - learn to swim properly so that I cut through the water like my DDs; start running outdoors; buy a wardrobe of new clothes which make me feel good; study French.

eemie · 24/06/2008 15:44

Batters - John Lewis - though best bra fitters ever were both at different branches of Harvey Nicks

moonshine · 24/06/2008 17:50

Happy Birthday Eemie!

(Sticks tongue out at Wong but with undisguised envy). Still don't think I could do it long term. Or even medium term. Probably not short term.

WWW - hang on in there. Therein lies many a diet's ruin when your weight does not play the game fairly, although it sounds like you will see this through to the end. Think of that great shopping trip you're going to treat yourself to in autumn/winter (opaques optional ).

I should have gone to the gym today so please give me a collective slap (will only be able to go on Thursday now this week). I might try and do a half an hour walk at lunchtimes instead of obsessing over finding a long summer shirt with sleeves that is not a child of the seventies and doesn't yell 'Dennis Roussos in his dark days'.

Also thought of another long-term aim: to finally sort out my wardrobe, really get rid of the 'fat' and 'thin' clothes that I never will/be able to wear again and buy more things that do not just cover but enhance, or whatever the Gok word for it is (hopeful emoticon).

TheBundleR · 24/06/2008 17:52

batters you don't need another mulberry bag

mwahahahaaaaaaa

WideWebWitch · 24/06/2008 20:20

Batters, you don't need another gorgeous Mulberry bag

Eemie, I eat a lot of spinach and green beans, I am allowed some veg but in moderation. I'm mostly eating fat (but good fat, olive oil, avocado, groundnut oil) and protein (organic meat, fish) and nuts and some veg.

Have read you all but forgive me for not replying...

Had tarragon chicken and raw spinach tonight and picked at some salami and cheese when I was making lunch for tomorrow. Was aware that I was picking because I was hungry and needed to eat and was feeling slightly stroppy (so comfort eating, basically, not good) but I so wanted to get the chore of tomorrows lunch made done before I ate supper. Speaking of chores, I HATE THEM. Came in to have to hang out washing, put another load on, unload the dishwasher, make lunch for tomorrow, take make up off, chivy children, read 2 stories, engage in battle with ds, who threw orange peel all over kitchen floor deliberately to annoy me aaagggghhh. It's so BORING. I want a housekeeper oh well, I'll dream on. ANYhooo

did drink water and use sunscreen
feel slightly grumpy because of above - did anyone see grumpy old women last night? It was about that basically, about being aone woman mission control for the household. And although dh does pull his weight and bathed dd, made ds do his 11+ tests (no mean feat), and made our supper and installed a new graphics card on our PC while I was doing aforementioned chores, I still thought THE FKING CLEANER HAS BEEN and I don't WANT TO DO ANY CHORES.

Right, tantrum over, thanks for listening.

Am going out to dinner on Friday week and have booked Threadneedles hotel for a bargain price on lastminute.com so feelng happy with that! Have always wanted to see what it's like.

Hello everyone.

Batters, you do NOT need another mulberry bag.

Happy birthday, Eemie.

Chutney, how was Neil Diamond?

Well done Suzy.

Quite fancy a piano myself too, not that I can play, lol. DH is a bit iffy around horses, saggar. Bulls too . Do you remember that one rampaging around Sainsbury's a few years back?

I should get my eyes tested (think age is now setting in, on top of the astigmatism/short-sightedness, would love laser treatment, but optician warned against it (he would, wouldn't he?). Might consider lenses, one day, when I get brave.

The tops of my arms are disgusting too.

Sigh, I just need a complete overhaul don't I? lol.

Blardy relentless this work/life lark isn't it, www?

unknownrebelbang · 24/06/2008 20:44
  • Sunscreen at all times yy
  • No booze.
  • NO exercise .
  • Lots of water - not enough today.
  • Apply body cream - lax.
  • Use hand cream - lax.
  • Go to bed early, midnight last night, disturbed by DS2 throughout, poor lamb.
  • Eat healthily - reasonable.
  • Be happy. Just wondering how many jobs I can realistically blackmail expect DH to do tomorrow before he sods off to Majorca on Thursday for a few days, given that he'll be in bed til lunchtime.

DS2 has an abcess in his tooth, little lamb, but is a lot better in himself. School tomorrow hopefully.

Apparently at work yesterday, as well as myself, three other people had family illness woes - two involving hospital. That's 50% of the staff over a 24 hr period!

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 24/06/2008 21:07

Lol - yes I remember the bull ureb. dh doesn't like horses too much - or cows, especially seen as he spends alot of time getting them out of odd predicaments. Hey - I see your end of town are trying to escape the clutches of the City?

Glad ds is a little better. And Majorca?? How did he wangle that?

I have an evening out arranged too. Friday night at the local Indian restaurant with the school mums ( we always have a real laugh, drink too much and stagger home).

I agree about being mission control www. It's OK most of the time but sometimes it just gets too much doesn't it? dh does his fair share of the general 'stuff' but it just seeems like anything over and above falls to me.

Batters, I'm sure you don't NEED a bag. But if there's a sale on....

unknownrebelbang · 24/06/2008 21:23

DH is partly responsible for the bull's demise. Gawd, did he get some grief for that, but they really had no alternative. (And I almost missed some exam or other!).

Ah yes, sod 'em off to SBC. They're welcome to 'em. They don't want their kids to walk to B because it's unsafe, but they're prepared to drive them to school miles away, even though B school has better results and was not in special measures until very recently. (and yes I do realise that neither results nor inspections are THAT important in the overall scheme of things). They pay more council tax than the rest of us, cos their houses are worth more cos you live in the snobbiest poshest nicest part of the city, ffs! They'll pay more council tax with SBC and won't get any better service for it. Staffs schools are going to be reviewed too, do they really think it would make any difference to their school?

Ooops, sorry bit of a rant there. I know they think they're doing the best for "their children", but don't we all want that? Are their children "more important" than the rest of the children in the city?

unknownrebelbang · 24/06/2008 21:25

Oh, and Majorca? Stag do from work. They had a practise run last year . Says it's important he goes on this one, as it could be his last. lol.

Marina · 24/06/2008 21:39

Evening all
Well done wong on the impressive weight loss , that's fab
So how has dh wangled Majorca ureb, and does he realise they have cattle there...?
Batters, you do not need another Mulberry bag!
I've had better days house a squalid tip; nippers deeply annoying; ds' monstrous teacher, who is being moved on leaving to spend more time with her fortunate family, has entered the zone of Could I Care Less and is giving free rein to the personality disorder that makes her one of the only teachers I have ever met that I really loathe. Today's gem was haranguing various underachievers in front of the whole class about what a domino effect of loserdom will occur if they don't work hard for the 11 +. 1) these children are nine 2) some of them won't be taking the 11 +, she knows that, how might that little homily make them feel . She is vile.
And to crown it all, buoyed by good weight loss thus far, I went speed shopping at lunch time for a new fat lady swimsuit and a nurse! the screens sarong to cover it all up. Snatched wrong costume from rack and was beguiled into buying kaftan instead, which is billowing on the hanger and still a bit tight round the hips.
So I've had a depressing day.
You have to LOL at this though. Dad still in hospital. Why? Because he unwisely gave a full and accurate list of my mother's many afflictions (although he did leave the pig head out) to the medical social worker who obviously immediately pressed code red to my parents' local SS. Basically my mum had a call from a very nice but steely lady who said "we've got your dh and you're not having him back until we Assess You for Help". Which is happening tomorrow am, probably about five minutes before dad is chucked out of a speeding ambulance.
My mother is furious with the SS, livid with dad for "making me out to be a crock", keen to have a pop at any offspring who dare to suggest that SS might be a short-term boon to be thankful for.... Augh.

Cammelia · 24/06/2008 23:13

Happy Birthday eemie, you're only 17 days younger than me

How cool is that?

What a good vintage June 1956 that year was

at your ds's demob happy teacher Marina

Morning all
At 11.29 I will become the mother of a nine year old boy
He went off to school carrying his own weight in chocolate muffins and in Wii-Heaven so that has to count as a good start to the day
Thanks for kind words re teacher and sarong/kaftan fiasco, I do need to get a grip and chant "I will be unfat". Am happy that despite feeling v. gloomy last night I did not reach for the corkscrew or indeed the unbreached packet of Tyrrells sweet chili and pepper crisps. So that is progress
Ureb, you have to tell us the bull story now! I was chased up a mountain once by some very athletic and aggressive little red cows (was NOT on drugs, they are norty ginger ones found in the Auvergne).
And ouch at being bitten on the rear by a horse batters I was badly scratched by a rabbit as a child and these things stay with you.
LOL at Shameless Christmas although I know that the quips hide a world of brandy chugging familial anguish.
Was late for work due to present-savaging frenzy so have not walked yet, must try and make that up at lunchtime
YY to water, healthy eating, sunscreen, hooves etc though
A good bootcamp to all today

arfishy · 25/06/2008 09:50

THIS is where you all are.

Batters - you DO need a new mulberry bag. Stop being so sensible immediately.

Marina - LOL at your dad

SW -

Bama - how do you do that? How do you walk 17k in a day and then run 8k? Surely that burns off so many calories you are reed thin? Or do you come home and eat 17 krispy creme doughnuts and a bottle of baileys to compensate like I would?

WWW - are you measuring your ketones? When I did Atkins I could tell if I'd come out of ketosis by using the ketone sticks. It was a useful way of seeing what tipped me out of fat burning mode.

Unknown - I've got a piano. I'm quite pleased with it. I can only barely play but I feel that it is A Positive Influence In The House.

I'm grumpy. I have a cold, broken toes and am being phoned relentlessly by my evil ex-employers who are making me WORK and as tempted as I am to tell them to take a running jump I can't because my potential new contract is on site with half of them [assumes gurning grin of compliance and professionalism].

I will probably have put on weight due to inactivity.

On the plus side I had a wonderful facial/massage today which involved lots of potions, hot towels, steam, head massage, hand massage, back massage and general pampering for 1.5 hours.

As I am now nobby-no-contract I'm thinking about taking DD away somewhere (she breaks up tomorrow). I'm thinking Hawaii because it's very cheap at the moment because it looks lovely.

Marina · 25/06/2008 09:51

So what's going on over there CSI Arfy

eemie · 25/06/2008 10:17

Poor start today - headache and hot flushes at 5 am. Haven't walked (or done any work) yet. Helping dd to pack for her three days in Chichester with the school . She's so thrilled, musn't spoil it for her.

Puppy being adorable and angelic, like an advert for puppies.

Breakfasted lightly off a couple of paracetamol and some water. Still have a couple of oestradiol patches left. Will I crack? Probably.

Happy camping to all booters
