Do you "get ready" every day

If you're staying in all day, do you still get up and do hair and makeup (I don't mean done up to the nines) or do you not bother? Are you always ready to face the world or do you only "get ready" if you're leaving the house?

I wear make up and blow dry only if i
going into the office or I have a social event. Otherwise no way, I do not put on make up for grocery shopping, school
pick up, kids weekend sports or working from home. I’m far too lazy for that!

People get ready even when they know they’re not going anywhere? That is something I would never do. It’s a chore. Why would I make a job for myself?

This is the post which said it was a chore.

Bambalama · 10/05/2026 17:40

I never spend all day at home, unless I’m ill or injured, so I don’t really know. I’d usually powder my nose and put a bit of lipstick on if I was just going out for a walk or to the shop.

BashfulClam · 09/05/2026 15:21

I barely get done up to leave the house 🤷🏻‍♀️

This! I’ve worn make up once in the last 6 months as there was a chance I would be on national tv. I bought the make up specifically for it as I didn’t have any and hadn’t worn any in years before that!

There's something about smelling my perfume or catching sight of myself in the mirror and seeing myself with good hair, clean/clear skin, flattering and luxurious-feeling clothes that adds an extra lift to my day.

I always end up smiling at myself in the mirror, even when all I have done is brows, mascara and perfume.

What?! This is mental. I’m never going to be going around smiling at mirrors. I’ve got things to think about.

dudsville · 10/05/2026 18:26

I have recently started having days where I might stay in my pjs, but by noon I'm in the shower. Today is one of those days. I have very nice homewear, so although I'm in a dress, it's very casual and comfortable. But my hair and makeup are very basic. My hair gets washed every 4 to 6 days, and makeup is just foundation. I've drenched my feet in lotion and put on nice socks, that's the biggest difference between work and non work days!

dudsville · 10/05/2026 18:28

@EssaDiTractor96 I also wear my nice perfume at home! And to be fair, the best mirror is my entire life is in my bathroom at home, so I may well smile at myself too😂

Sealsk · 10/05/2026 18:42

Yes I do. Quick shower, brush teeth, brush hair and clip it up, wash face, moisturiser, tinted moisturiser, blusher, eyebrow pencil, mascara, lipstick. There are very few days that I don't leave the house (one or two a year, usually when a child is sick). But I might get a courier delivery, or have to go to the shop, or the dcs might want to go to the park. I like to be ready to pop out at any time and look presentable for it.

deeahgwitch · 10/05/2026 19:32

Yes I do, in that I put moisturiser, bronzer, eye pencil, and lipstick on.
If I’m going out for dinner or suchlike I’ll use mascara. I’ve sensitive eyes and can’t be ars*d with the faff of removing mascara and potentially having swollen eyelids afterwards on most days.

EssaDiTractor96 · 10/05/2026 20:22

Ah, I see the "must be vacuous if she cares about her appearance / takes joy in life" brigade is out. How frightfully limiting.

Some of us are capable of career success, an intellectually and emotionally fulfilling life and taking joy in their looks @PracticallyPeapod

I envy posters who don’t need makeup - unless I have a tan, my natural skin tone is pale grey with dark under eye circles. Thankfully this can be disguised in a few minutes, but I look unwell without makeup

I just think I can’t see my own face, it’s not my problem tbh.
i have dark circles that you probably would cover up but I don’t care.
All personal though, I’m quite confident in my natural bare skin, I’m quite deeply olive skinned although can look ‘pale’ if I havent had a holiday in a while. You’d probably think I would look better if I covered my dark circles and whacked on a base if you met me but I just don’t care enough about what other people think of me to waste leisure time doing it so I happily go without!
PS I care more that my friends and family think I’m a kind and loving person, it’s the looks I don’t care about other people’s opinions of me!

mdinbc · 10/05/2026 21:34

Yes, but I've always been minimal.

Tinted moisturizer with SPF, eyeliner, mascara, lip tint. Sometimes concealer is needed. Hair brushed and mostly pulled up. I never bother with curling it.

I think everyone cares more people think they are kind and loving. Making an effort with uour appearance doesn’t stop you caring more about that, the two are not mutually exclusive

I realise that, but my second to last sentence (or somewhere near enough around there) I said that I didn’t care what people thought about me and wanted to clarify that it just referred to my appearance.

FlapperFlamingo · 10/05/2026 22:27

I always get up, shower and wash my hair and get dressed. I don’t wear makeup or style my hair apart from letting it dry naturally and using my fingers. I would feel wrong (for me) if I didn’t. No judgement on what anyone else does or doesn’t do though!

previouslyknownas · 10/05/2026 22:45

I get up and shower every day even if I’m not going out

I don’t wear a lot of make up as a rule unless I’m going out for a night out

but I always put some bronzing SPF on my face and do my hair and I put on tan in drops every night and wear tinted lipstick

i do have my lashes infilled every week and eyebrows tinted and shaped every 3 weeks

I I have my nails Infilled every two weeks and a pedicure every month and regular Botox
So overall I tend to look reasonably polished

BrownBookshelf · 10/05/2026 22:48

It's true, there's a rather big gap between toothbrushing which is essential to good health and stuff like makeup or perfume. It's a bit tragic that anyone feels sad that others might consider make up a chore.

For me, no I'm certainly not bothering with makeup if not going anywhere. Brushed teeth and washing are essential, clothes that suit whatever I'm doing that day is just good sense and I like my hair tidied. Tends to get messy overnight and that's irritating.

That all sounds quite time consuming. What is having nails infilled?

I have decent nails and look after them myself. I did have one summer having gels but they wrecked my nails so I am back to having them au naturel most of the time. I occasionally paint them myself.

gillefc82 · 11/05/2026 01:41

Totally depends on what I have on that day. I WFH and if I have no video calls then I won’t bother to put on makeup etc. Equally, if I know if not leaving to house for any reason.

But if I have ‘on camera‘ calls or I’ll be popping out, even just to do a quick food shop etc, then I’ll also make sure my hair is done (usually shampoo and conditioner but at times with dry shampoo), skincare is done and some minimal make up applied, with a thrown on pair of jeans and a top.

It’s when you have the space between the aritificial nail and the cuticle filled in.

I “get ready” every day. It makes me feel better about myself. Even during lockdown it was the same. Every Friday lunchtime back then l used to go for my “posh frock walk”. I walk to nowhere which l got dressed up for. It gave me hope and made me feel a little happier.

deeahgwitch · 11/05/2026 08:54

What bronzing spf do you use @previouslyknownas?

PinkEasterbunny · 11/05/2026 11:43

it also is not massively time consuming, a shower takes me less than five mins, moisturiser all over a couple of mins, skin care brush teeth, five mins, make up, 5 mins, hair 5 mins, and getting dressed takes the same amount of time, whether you put something lovely on or leggings and a hoodie. So 20 mins and it’s done and you look and feel good for the rest of the day.

Sadly, 43 mins is my personal best for all of the above, but I still make the effort

Thank you. I had no idea. What state are your own nails in?

Babybirdmum · 11/05/2026 21:50

I don’t think it’s very good for your skin to wear makeup everyday plus chemicals etc so I only wear it on rare occasions that way people notice I’ve made an effort eg if I was going for a meal with friends or meeting a friend for coffee who I see twice a year. I try to get dressed everyday even if I’m staying in unless I’m poorly.
