Do you "get ready" every day

Raven21 · 09/05/2026 15:19

If you're staying in all day, do you still get up and do hair and makeup (I don't mean done up to the nines) or do you not bother? Are you always ready to face the world or do you only "get ready" if you're leaving the house?

I never do my hair (it's short) and never wear make-up, no matter where I am going. I am always clean and tidy however.

neveraskingtime · 09/05/2026 22:27

I put makeup on just to sit around the house coz I live centrally and normally do pop out. I hate leaving the house without my face on

JaceLancs · 09/05/2026 22:35

Hair yes! Make up no - not worn any for 10+ years

fluffydoglove · 09/05/2026 22:44

Yes always I’d feel strange if I didn’t it’s just something I’ve always done

Hair no - face yes basic moisturiser and then a CC cream with anti redness and mascara … otherwise I will look at the mirror and be shocked by the tired sick old lady looking at me.

Can I ask what cc cream woth anti redness as im in need for something to stop redness

PinkEasterbunny · 09/05/2026 23:08

I envy posters who don’t need makeup - unless I have a tan, my natural skin tone is pale grey with dark under eye circles. Thankfully this can be disguised in a few minutes, but I look unwell without makeup

Hi

I’ve used this for years - I love it

When I was younger I wouldn’t leave the house without a full face of makeup and perfect hair.
Now I shower or strip wash, wash my face, cleanse and moisturise. Floss and brush my teeth. Definitely get dressed even if not going out, feels slobbish to stay in pjs.
I do love making a real effort if I’m going out to an event or party though.

mumofoneAloneandwell · 10/05/2026 01:02

No, but i resolve to try more

PhaedraTwo · 10/05/2026 01:48

Shower, brush my teeth, vaguely run a brush through my hair, foundation if I remember. Going out or staying in. I only wear makeup if I'm going to a wedding or a black tie do or similar and even then it's just a bit of mascara and lipstick.

People get ready even when they know they’re not going anywhere? That is something I would never do. It’s a chore. Why would I make a job for myself?

I don't see it as a chore,it's just part of getting up and ready.

Gettingbysomehow · 10/05/2026 08:41

Yes because otherwise I dont feel human. I have CPTSD and I need to work full time and make an effort with how I look in order to stop myself sinking. It doesnt take much of a change in my normal routine before I cant manage my head any more.

Morepositivemum · 10/05/2026 08:44

If I don’t, as in not even a hair brush, I know I’m exhausted and having a bad day. Sometimes even just brushing the hair that day means something

TheOGCCL · 10/05/2026 08:48

I’m another one who looks ill without make up. People I’ve lived with have always been able to see what a difference make up makes on me. I do think maybe if you leave it long enough your eye (and others) adjusts but I’m never going to the office or a social event with no make up on. For me it’s a type of self care.

Doyouknowdanieltiger · 10/05/2026 08:51

I shower every morning and use spf. Put on some make up

Apart from Sunday I'll just put spf when I go to walk the dog later.

Ophir · 10/05/2026 08:54

Yep! Every day

I spend a lot of time in gym
wear these days, but always shower, makeup, reasonable hair

There's something about smelling my perfume or catching sight of myself in the mirror and seeing myself with good hair, clean/clear skin, flattering and luxurious-feeling clothes that adds an extra lift to my day.

I always end up smiling at myself in the mirror, even when all I have done is brows, mascara and perfume.

Agree and I find it sad anyone thinks self care like this is a chore.i don’t see it as a chore, it’s time I spend on me, and at the end of it, I look and feel better. Clean smell nice look good, it’s never for anyone else.

it also is not massively time consuming, a shower takes me less than five mins, moisturiser all over a couple of mins, skin care brush teeth, five mins, make up, 5 mins, hair 5 mins, and getting dressed takes the same amount of time, whether you put something lovely on or leggings and a hoodie. So 20 mins and it’s done and you look and feel good for the rest of the day.

sure some people don’t have 20 mins, but if you do, then for me it’s worth it and absolutely not a chore.

Well that's a bit of an exaggeration of what others have said. Has any one said they don't, shower, brush their teeth and get dressed? I use moist on my face. I don't put on moisturiser all over (why? my skin doesn't need it) All my clothes are nice, I don't own joggers, lounge wear.

I don't "style" my hair beyond putting it up or leaving it down. It's pretty good, thick shoulder length with a bit of a wave to it. I never straighten it or blow dry it. I really, really find obviously styled hair very unappealing.

The expression "self care" is cringe making.

What? Did you misread? I never said anyone said that. How odd.

No one has said they find getting showered, brushing their teeth and getting dressed a "chore" so I don't know what it is you're "sad" about or what point you're trying to make.

"Self care" is such a cringe making expression.

ComedyGuns · 10/05/2026 12:59

I do the same routine every day - just later on days off: shower, make-up, decent clothes and jewellery etc, wash and style hair every four days.

I’m not going to argue with you, you can read the thread I was responding on. Go after someone else.

Threeslothsontheshirt · 10/05/2026 13:19

Yes. Every day whether I have plans or not. Makes me feel better.

GameOfJones · 10/05/2026 13:21

Almost always but my "getting ready" takes about 15 minutes max as I shower at night so in the morning it's just brush teeth and hair, wash my face, put my serum and spf on, get dressed and a bit of makeup and perfume.

I sometimes go without makeup and treat myself to a skincare day.... I'm doing that today for example as I feel really run down and full of cold so I've not done my usual basic makeup and instead have layered up my skincare and I'll use a sheet mask later. I'm still dressed though and wearing perfume as I'd feel worse if I didn't....even though it's just slouchy joggers and a jumper.
