Do you "get ready" every day

If you're staying in all day, do you still get up and do hair and makeup (I don't mean done up to the nines) or do you not bother? Are you always ready to face the world or do you only "get ready" if you're leaving the house?

Do you have any days where you just don't wear any make up and let your skin breathe?

Skin doesn't breathe

Skin doesn't breathe

That may be right, but my skin definitely looks better after a break from covering it in make up.

Peonies12 · 09/05/2026 20:12

Ive only ever stayed in all day when ive been unwell and therefore havent got dressed. Blows my mind anyone can stay in all day, I’d go stir crazy!

EffortlesslyDistracted · 09/05/2026 20:19

The only time I wouldn’t go out is if I’m ill, so yes, I do get ready every day unless ill. But fairly low maintenance, run fingers through curly hair, SPF, moisturiser, tiny amount of make-up, maybe change earrings.

RamsayBoltonsConscience · 09/05/2026 20:23

God no! Bank holiday Monday, I got up, had a shower etc, put clean pjs on and tied my hair up. didn’t leave the house all day. If I know I’m not going out, I never put makeup on or do my hair sometimes I won’t even put a bra on (and believe me the girls do need one!)

Awfulinlaws · 09/05/2026 20:30

I feel much better when I do a very basic level of skin and hair care. Face oil, moisturizer and a quick hair brush.

LaurieFairyCake · 09/05/2026 20:37

I look great without make up so I happily go out without it but once or twice a week I put it on to feel extra good, basically for fun.

mondaytosunday · 09/05/2026 20:41

Huh sometimes I don’t even get dressed. Why on earth would you bother with make up? I think Covid really made me not bother with a lot of stuff (I also live alone when DD is at uni, when she’s home I always get dressed but no make up).

henlake7 · 09/05/2026 20:58

I put make up on when I feel like it, not dependent on wether anybody will me in it! Was going out today but couldn't be bothered with make up (and my hair really needed a wash) so it was just moisturiser and a baseball cap!😄
TBH even if I'm getting dressed up for the day the first time I leave the house in the morning is to walk the dog then I just chuck on some joggers and sweatshirt and run a brush over hair and teeth!

Skin doesn't breathe

True, but I feel that my skin benefits from being make up free.

Depends on the make up, I use Victoria Beckham foundation which is skin care as well, and very good skincare.

however I also go a couple of days a week where I don’t wear make up, it’s usually the days I’m washing my hair, as I usually do it later in the day, as I’ve long hair and it’s all a bit of effort, and so I don’t bother with make up,

Bristolandlazy · 09/05/2026 21:15

No, only if going out for the evening or for lunch. Everyday shower, hair, teeth etc

I do it for me, same as when I go out, I don’t do it for other people, I do it for me,

if I just don’t bother, I find it impacts other things in my day, looking nice, smelling nice, it’s always like a mental boost. Sort of sets me up for the day,

ImogenBrocklehurst · 09/05/2026 21:16

Get up, shower, eye makeup and blusher, hair up every day. Clothes depend on wfh or in the office. Don’t feel ready for work unless I’m clean and made up.

Teaandtarot · 09/05/2026 21:19

Yes hair and makeup

I've suffered with spots and crap skin since being young and always feel better with a bit of makeup. If I had clear skin I don't think I would

I also have very oily skin so feel better with foundation and powder

Face and hair are done EVERY day as I look awful otherwise. I’m very pale faced and look ill without blusher, lipstick and eyeshadow. And my hair is flat unless I put in heated rollers every morning too. It doesn’t take too long and it’s part of my morning routine all my life and I’m 78 now.

I love this ❤️
I’m 59 and don’t bother but I love to see other people who look nice. This has made me want to make more of an effort just for myself.

ADogRocketShip · 09/05/2026 21:33

Yeah very rare that I don’t get hair and make up done for the day. I might just be wearing a big hoodie and leggings if staying home but at least I’d feel presentable and could pop out if I wanted whenever.

Drumrollpls · 09/05/2026 21:38

I always brush my teeth, brush my hair, put it in a bun and wash/moisturise my face. But thats it. I only do make up if i go out to work/see friends/event etc. But going to shops/excercise no make up.

FusionChefGeoff · 09/05/2026 21:40

My getting ready is only very basic and yes I do it every day. Wash face with cleanser, serum, moisturiser, SPF. Brush hair and put up.

BlackCat14 · 09/05/2026 21:42

I’m on mat leave at the mo and even if my day is just going for a walk or something with my baby, I’ll still have a shower, brush my hair and put my eyebrows on. So I guess yeah, that’s “getting ready”!

MrsBeltane · 09/05/2026 21:43

I put underwear on.

Namechangeforthisdilemma1 · 09/05/2026 21:46

I have different levels of getting ready.

WFH days / going to local shop or park with kids - brush hair (wash if greasy), mascara and SPF primer, no other make up, always get dressed

Office days, going somewhere nice - hair wash, curl, bit more make up but I don’t wear loads

I very rarely get a “stay at home all day” day - maybe once a month or two? So I will sometimes have a PJ day then and no hair/make up. Kids love a random PJ day as we are out a lot.

ERthree · 09/05/2026 22:05

I don't wear make up, so i get up get washed and changed into whatever clothes i need that day, some days leggings and a t shirt, on days i have to go out it will be jeans and a top. I have been know to get up shower and put clean pyjamas on if i am staying at home or just walking on the shore.

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 09/05/2026 22:06

No make up if staying in

HoldMyWine · 09/05/2026 22:06

I’m m always showered, face washed and moisturised, mascara on, hair tidy and dressed.
